Enjoy.
Our friends at PORTALS caught up with Brooklyn's Lorely Rodriguez - aka Empress Of , whose full-on, swooning electro-pop set was easily one of the best things we saw at SXSW - down in Austin last month, where they captured this charmingly intimate, stripped-down solo piano version of her new single " Tristeza ," shot in black & white at Estuary by the PORTALS crew. Download the song here , and check another song from the SXSW sessions below:

On Saturday, I got the chance to go to a showing of the indie film Somebody Up There Likes Me, which had a Q&A with the director Bob Byington and actor/producer Nick Offerman . And it was awkward. Oh, so awkward. Why was it so awkward? Well, in part it was because it was a late showing and the place where I saw it serves alcohol. So I think it's safe to assume a good chunk of the audience was pretty buzzed by the time the Q&A started. And, despite what you might think, drunk [...]

Empress Of's "Tristeza" features Lorely Rodriguez singing of honey, shadows, and full moons over a dreamy, delicate- and yes, melancholy- background of shining, sparkling sounds. The title of the Spanish language track translates to "sorrow" or "sadness," so it's fitting that these light, pretty melodies are also quite haunting in quality. "Tristeza" is taken from Empress Of's Systems EP.
Another lovely, dreamlike number from Empress Of (this time in Spanish), taken from her impressive Systems EP that dropped yesterday on Terrible / Double Denim ( and on vinyl soon ). The post listen: Empress Of — "Tristeza" appeared first on Soft Signal .

Brooklyn’s Empress Of (aka Lorely Rodriguez) has released another track from her forthcoming EP, Systems, which is out now via Double Denim/Terrible Records. 'Tristeza' is the follow up track for “ Hat Trick ,” which was released last month. Have a listen below and don't adjust your ears, she is singing in Spanish. Systems EP is available digitally via iTunes Spotify

Here's another lovely track from Empress Of 's forthcoming Systems EP, out today digitally ( vinyl coming soon ) on Terrible Records :

Después de presentarnos "Hat Trick" hace casi un mes y de pasarla muy bien en el SXSW, Empress Of nos presenta "Tristeza" otro track de su próximo EP SYSTEMS que ya se puede conseguir en formato digital, y se puede ir pre-ordenando aquí o aquí . El track es parte del lado B del EP que consta de dos rolas en español. Enjoy.
Love ourselves a little splashette of wistful transatlantic pop we do, and today that comes beamed in radiantly from Brooklyn's Lorely Rodriguez, aka Empress Of . Hat Trick tells of a trip to the neighbourhood clairvoyant, as Rodriguez insouciantly intones in what more or less sounds like a sigh straight out of the '80s: "Lay my cards on the table/ Tell me my future" over pseudo-futuro splurges of slooshing, slo-mo Miami Vice smooth. Firmly in its sights its a muzzy, almost exhausted climax evocative of a certain Super Trouper, as Rodriguez then repeatedly assures she'll "never let you go." And [...]
![[MEGA Playlist] 60+ Instrumental Tracks You Need to Listen to](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4741497_lg.jpg)
Everyone loves lyrics. Whether they're light-hearted and playful, soul-gripping and gut-wrenching, or abstract and avant garde, we all love to sing along, relate certain verses to our personal lives, or just be taken away by another person's story. On the other hand, hearing a great instrumental track is an entirely different experience. Without having words to identify with, your brain is free to let the music create an image in your mind. The interpretation is more so up to you than if you had someone defining it with their own words. Having this blank canvas allows your mind [...]
Cristiano trabaja a tope, juega a tope. A veces lo hace mejor y a veces peor. No puede ser decisivo en cada partido pero siempre es solidario. Cristiano es un jugador ejemplar para todo. No me tengo que preocupar con cosas que para mí son suplementarias” - José Mourinho

American jazz and pop singer, Connie Evingson has recently released her 9th album "Sweet Happy Life." Interestingly enough, it is a bossa nova album which is centered around the work of lyricist Norman Gimbel who is responsible for the lyrics on the English versions of bossa nova classics such as " The Girl from Ipanema ," " How Insensitive " and " So Nice, " amongst others. “I’m flattered and grateful for such a tasteful compilation of my songs. Connie Evingson is a wonderful singer and has given bossa nova and me [...]

You know what? Sometimes I'm just in the mood for something simple and undemanding, something attractive, something with no great emotional depth. Not completely essential, but if it wasn't there you'd miss it. It makes a room better. Maybe it's unfair to think of Tristeza as makers of wallpaper music, but that's what it does for me. Is furniture music a less demeaning term? Can we stop here? I'm just putting my foot in it. Boot music. Balabaristas is a pretty piece of instrumental post-rock from [...]
Tristeza is a post-rock band who has been on the scene for over 10 years. While never receiving much mainstream acclaim or monetary success, the band has been a major factor in underground scenes for quite some time. Originally from San Diego, the band now calls Oakland (birthplace of whistle tips, "Woo WOOOOO!") home. Off of their 2000 album Dream Signals in Full Circles , this is a really chill instrumental track. It reminds me a lot of Explosions In The Sky who are most well known [...]

A few hits and a couple of misses round out today's reviews. Any questions? Good. Have a seat and we'll get started. Millionyoung : Replicants - Out of all the chill wave artists around right now, Millionyoung have a slight edge. The psychedelic guitar work that Mike Diaz does on nearly every song sets him apart from others who merely depend on synthesizers to work out their songs. Unfortunately, the differences don't end there. I talked a bit before on my [...]
