On Saturday, I got the chance to go to a showing of the indie film Somebody Up There Likes Me, which had a Q&A with the director Bob Byington and actor/producer Nick Offerman . And it was awkward. Empress Of's "Tristeza" features Lorely Rodriguez singing of honey, shadows, and full moons over a dreamy, delicate- and yes, melancholy- background of shining, sparkling sounds. The title of the Spanish language track translates to "sorrow" or "sadness," so it's fitting that these light, pretty melodies are also quite haunting in quality. "Tristeza" is taken from Empress Of's Systems EP.

You know what? Sometimes I'm just in the mood for something simple and undemanding, something attractive, something with no great emotional depth. Tristeza is a post-rock band who has been on the scene for over 10 years. While never receiving much mainstream acclaim or monetary success, the band has been a major factor in underground scenes for quite some time.
