You know what? Sometimes I'm just in the mood for something simple and undemanding, something attractive, something with no great emotional depth. Not completely essential, but if it wasn't there you'd miss it. It makes a room better. Maybe it's unfair to think of Tristeza as makers of wallpaper music, but that's what it does for me. Is furniture music a less demeaning term? Can we stop here? I'm just putting my foot in it. Boot music. Balabaristas is a pretty piece of instrumental post-rock from [...]
Tristeza is a post-rock band who has been on the scene for over 10 years. While never receiving much mainstream acclaim or monetary success, the band has been a major factor in underground scenes for quite some time. Originally from San Diego, the band now calls Oakland (birthplace of whistle tips, "Woo WOOOOO!") home. Off of their 2000 album Dream Signals in Full Circles , this is a really chill instrumental track. It reminds me a lot of Explosions In The Sky who are most well known [...]

A few hits and a couple of misses round out today's reviews. Any questions? Good. Have a seat and we'll get started. Millionyoung : Replicants - Out of all the chill wave artists around right now, Millionyoung have a slight edge. The psychedelic guitar work that Mike Diaz does on nearly every song sets him apart from others who merely depend on synthesizers to work out their songs. Unfortunately, the differences don't end there. I talked a bit before on my [...]
Late last year we introduced you Courtship , the San Franciscan based producer with a penchant for smooth stylish covers and dark, downbeat tunes - most recently delivering a version of Shellac's 'Prayer To God' but turning it on it's with head with building despondency as waves of beats and synths sweep in. (You can stream that here .) Currently working on his second EP Courtship took time out for State giving some insight to his influences with a classic ambient, looped guitars, haunting ballads, sweet R&B, tropical sounds, dubstep and electronica mix all [...]

Lush, thoughtful, enveloping post-punk instrumentals Less than a year after their release of Fate Unfolds , Tristeza returns with a new full-length album of enveloping post-punk prog-rock instrumentals. Their press release name checks Spacemen 3, Felt and Talk Talk, but the strains of Televsion, Can, Stereolab and Tuxedomoon are also strong. The opening "Raise Your Gaze" threatens to transition from space into a blinding cacophony, but pulls back as the tune burns off the last of its fuel. James Lehner and Luis Hermosillo (drums and bass, respectively) provide the [...]

After a brief hiatus, I've returned to cover a few records that came out at the end of last year and also to celebrate something very special. And it is because this occasion is so special that I've prepared a speech: Our first year online [pause for applause] Thank you for reading last year, now and in the future. You are the stars [pause for applause] Yes, one year is a long time, but my love for you all will never die [pause for applause] Thank [...]
MP3: Tristeza - "Raise Your Gaze" The video for Tristeza 's "When No Men Spoke" is rather simplistic. The imagery is slow and drifting over a desert scene. The song comes from the band's recent Paisajes album, and you can check it out above.

Tristeza - Raise Your Gaze Tristeza - Newbury Around these parts (namely, my cramped, one bedroom apartment), instrumental outfit Tristeza are well known for crafting gorgeous, winding, almost stream-of-conciousness-type tracks that are absolutely delightful to drink numerous High Life tallboys to - and the newish album, Paisajes , is certainly no exception. Think upbeat (yet often deliriously melancholic as well), post-rock instrumental melodies, beautiful effect-laden atmospherics, and warm, drunken afternoons on a front porch with your equally lazy drinking buddies [...]

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are just a few of the songs that would get there own individual posts on here on GIMME TINNITUS, if I only had the time. This here mix is kind of all over the place. Listen. Downloadables: Gut Feeling vs. It's Just a Ride ( Devo vs. Bill Hicks ) (mp3) by The Death Set [...]
Heard this song this morning on KEXP and it was one of those songs that kind of hit perfectly with the mood I was in. Tristeza (Spanish for sadness) is a post-rock band out of California that like to call their songs "peices" and tend to lean towards swirling guitars and an overall pyschedelic sound. I could deal without the superfluous pretentious descirptions of their music, like this one on Amazon: 2010 release from this California Post-Rock group Paisajes is an album of sound, color and textures brought to height by 13 [...]

With a name like Surf City, it's only natural for one to assume that the band's songs will be upbeat and celebratory, or, as the chillwave revolution has determined, lazy, hazy psychedelic pop awash in layers of synth, echo-laden vocals and lyrics with themes like heat waves, day-dreaming, sun burns, beach parties, vacation getaways, and [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
