Benjamin Francis Leftwich with Imagine Dragons, and The Jezabels LIVE at The Troubadour in LA, 5/11/2012

Benjamin Francis Leftwich with Imagine Dragons, and The Jezabels LIVE at The Troubadour in LA, 5/11/2012 Opening the evening and armed with only his six-string, Benjamin Francis Leftwich brought a sold out crowd to a stand-still at the legendary Troubadour in West Hollywood on Friday night. The York based singer-songwriter and recent Vagrant signee held the captive audience for his brief 35 minute set. Fans sang along to Leftwich's inquisitive lyrics and distinctive voice. I'll admit, I was interested to hear the hushness and subtle rasps of his vocals in a live setting. Could someone actually sing like that? They can and Leftwich serves an example. Perhaps the smokes help, as Ben asked [...]

TENNIS @ THE TROUBADOUR

TENNIS @ THE TROUBADOUR Husband and wife team Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley, who on stage front the Denver-based Tennis, played at the sold-out Troubadour last night. Alaina Moore's honeyed vocals delivered the band's trademark airy style with ease, shown most prominently in their singles from latest album, Young & Old . Although there were moments of carefree swaying Moore, the choreographed bits from the "My Better Self" music video were not featured in an otherwise solid performance. Kimbra Settles Down At The Troubadour (PHOTOS) Hot 100 topper Kimbra played to a packed house at The Troubadour on Tuesday night (Apr. 17) for her first ticketed show in Los Angeles. The recent SNL performer shared that she'd had her sights set on the venue ever since she saw indie rock band As Tall As Lions perform there three and a half years ago while she was recording Vows . The Kiwi kicked off the evening with "Call Me" and her set included singles "Cameo Lover" and her international debut single [...]

THE MELVINS @ THE TROUBADOUR

THE MELVINS @ THE TROUBADOUR The Melvins absolutely destroyed the Troubadour on Friday night. After nearly 30 years, their passion, relevance, skill and inventiveness are somehow still on the rise. It is really an incredible thing to witness. Bonus points to drummers Coady and Dale for playing a full set with tourmates Unsane (capped by a cover of Flipper's "Ha Ha Ha") and then killing it during the Melvins' set too. Stamina. Loreena McKennitt – Troubadours on the Rhine (CD)

Loreena McKennitt has found a great groove with eir latest album, Troubadours on the Rhine. I believe that this title does tons for expanding the celtic genre, and does so in a way that will appease fans and newbies alike. This is largely due to McKennitt's inimitable vocals, but the supporting instrumentation that is present [...]

HOT SNAKES @ THE TROUBADOUR

HOT SNAKES @ THE TROUBADOUR It was sweaty times at The Troubadour for the highly-anticipated Hot Snakes' show. The reunited post-hardcore group got down to business and gave the diehards exactly what they craved, including two encores. Fellow Swami Records' bands Spider Fever and Mrs. Magician opened. Next stop is Thursday, April 5th at Alex's Bar. Photos by Debi Del Grande. [View with PicLens]

TY SEGALL + WHITE FENCE + MIKAL CRONIN @ THE TROUBADOUR

TY SEGALL + WHITE FENCE + MIKAL CRONIN @ THE TROUBADOUR Having caught the rising force that is Ty Segall at Outside Lands, FYF and opening for Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks, I wasn't surprised this gig was sold out at The Troubadour. Although garage rocker Segall is known for his solo albums like the well-received Goodbye Bread, his shows wouldn't be complete without touring bandmates and longtime friends Mikal Cronin (bass), Emily Rose Epstein (drums) and Charlie Moonheart (guitar). The younger crowd was already amped for Cronin who opened with tunes from his self-titled album with Segall and Rose backing. Tim Presley (Darker My Love) brought a heavier psychedelic sound and jam sessions with his band White Fence. Segall [...]

ARCHERS OF LOAF @ THE TROUBADOUR

ARCHERS OF LOAF @ THE TROUBADOUR On the heels of Merge Records' reissuance of Vee Vee , fans of indie-rockers Archers of Loaf were treated to a live show once again at The Troubadour where the band had performed two sold out gigs last June with its reissued debut album Icky Mettle. Although it was Oscar night, the party was clearly here. Photos by Debi Del Grande [View with PicLens] [...]

Review: Chiddy Bang live at The Troubadour

Last Wednesday I was fortunate enough to catch most of Chiddy Bang's show at The Troubadour in Southern California. Click more to read my review of it. This was my second time seeing Chiddy Bang live, a hip-hop duo consisting of producer Xaphoon Jones and MC Chiddy. However last Wednesday marked the first show Chiddy Bang would be [...]

Wye Oak 2/23 Troubadour Los Angeles Review

Wye Oak 2/23 Troubadour Los Angeles Review By Ace Ubas Since the release of their critically acclaimed album entitled Civilian early last year, Baltimore's Wye Oak has been riding a nice wave of success, finding a niche in the indie music scene. For most of 2011, they headed up their own tour, made their rounds in the festival circuit, and opened for notable acts such as The National, The Decemberists, Cold War Kids, Okkervil River, and Explosions in the Sky. Vocalist Jenn Wasner even found the time ...

DEAD SARA @ TROUBADOUR

DEAD SARA @ TROUBADOUR all photos by debi del grande The walls at the restaurant next door to the Troubadour must have been shaking because the place was rocking Tuesday night with 98.7 and Bronson Island presenting Dead Sara who has recently been on tour with Bush. What a breath of fresh air vocalist Emily Armstrong is! This girl has chops and range and isn't posing for anyone. Siouxsie Medley (guitar/vox), Chris Null (bass) and Sean Friday (drums) are all tight and no one is slacking. Even though Dead Sara wasn't the headliner—this night—the crowd screamed for more. [...]
