photo by Josh Bis If you're still looking for a great way to spend an evening, there are a plethora of great shows all around Seattle this week! Mates of State will play a two night stand at the Tractor Tavern on Thursday and Friday, Laura Marling and Willy Mason grace the Showbox on Tuesday, El-P and Killer Mike take over Neumo's on Sunday, Balkan Beat Box rock the Crocodile on Thursday, and The Comet Tavern, 88 Keys, 2 Bit Saloon, and Neptune Theatre [...]
Next week, Decibel Festival is once again invading the heart of Seattle. Electronic music, media, and visual arts will be showcased for five blissful days at various venues ranging from The Paramount, Fred Wildlife Refuge, The Crocodile, Neumos, Re-Bar, and The Woods. DB started eight years ago and has celebrated the likes of Modeselektor, FlyLo, Simian Mobile Disco, Claude Von Stroke, Trentemoller, Diplo, Ellen Allien, Gui Boratto, Apparat, and hundreds more. For electronic music enthusiasts, it doesn't get any better than this. In addition to the artists themselves, many conferences will be held Wednesday-Friday, touching on [...]
Thought this "instructional" / "informational" video about Truckasauras was pretty entertaining. Still think I'm referring to some villainous Monster Truck demigod rumbling through the Kingdome for just ten dollars? Then you've got some catching up to do. . . And, FWIW, Pitchfork has given the Seattle electro-gameheads a second straight favorable review , ascribing them to a "genre of one". Whoa.
After a triumphant 2010, that included the release of their acclaimed debut LP, Weathervanes, Queen's popular indie band, The Freelance Whales, are keeping fans engaged into the waning months of 2010 with a new song, "Enzymes." At first, it doesn't really sound like the FW; the sound is more heavily infused with an indie pop [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

With the sophomore release of "Quarters" Truckasauras further elaborates on their unique blend of all things electro with 9 new tracks. Fueled by an inhuman amount of Maker’s Mark and whatever kind of beer they can get their hands on, a bunch of self-proclaimed gear nerds have accumulated more firepower than Donald Trump. Armed with an arsenal of vintage Roland drum machines and synths, all sequenced by a modded first-gen Gameboy, Truckasauras create analog electro loops that skitter over starkly minimal drums; a sound (is it techno? is it hip-hop?) that straddles the chasm between [...]

Cool show at the ol' Healthy Times Fun Club this weekend (5/30), and a cool poster to boot (bison are "pretty much my favorite animal"). The Pica Beats will be playing along with Truckasauras , two stalwart Seattle bands that deserve your attention, if not your astonishment from them being on the same bill. . The fund raising will benefit 826 Seattle , a local non-profit workshop aimed at blossoming the young'uns' creative and [...]

Fleet Foxes at 2008 Capitol Hill Block Party Photo : Drake LeLane Drake was out at the CHBP last year , and if he can find a good babysitter, he should be back again in 2009 (but this time with his elbows deep in the pit). Anyway, here's what the initial (but quite deep) lineup for this year's Capitol Hill Block Party ( July 24 - 25th, Seattle, WA ) looks like: Sonic Youth, The Jesus Lizard, The [...]

This much spectacle could easily overshadow the average band’s music or bog down the average show, but HLaK has the unusual ability to expand to fit any circumstance. I had a chance this last Saturday to go check out Seattle's REVERBfest , a local-acts-only single-day music festival featuring 64 bands at 9 Ballard neighborhood venues. I managed to catch Pufferfish, Lonesome Rhodes & The Good Company, Boat, Laura "Piece" Kelley Jahn, and Truckasauras. Photos and reviews after the jump. I started off the evening at 6:30 with Pufferfish , an alt-country act with a wide variety of instruments at their disposal. This includes starting off the show with a musical saw being played [...]

Get trucked with some Seattle based Electronic Rock. Serious. Super Coptor - Truckasaurus (direct mp3) Air Wolf style

Fueled by an inhuman amount of Maker’s Mark and whatever kind of beer they can get their hands on, a bunch of self-proclaimed gear nerds have accumulated more firepower than Donald Trump. Armed with an arsenal of vintage Roland drum machines and synths, all sequenced by a modded first-gen Gameboy, Truckasauras create analog electro loops that skitter over starkly minimal drums; a sound (is it techno? is it hip-hop?) that straddles the chasm between goofiness and sincerity, and does so with aplomb. Citing influences ranging from Aphex Twin to 2 Live Crew, it’s next to impossible to pigeonhole the group [...]

The Accidental - Dream For Me Aside from having cover art which I would love to brandish on a T-shirt, The Accidental have a great, bittersweet of a folk tune in Dream For Me ; incredibly organic and authentic, this lightly executed but emotionally charged song will sink into your consciousness with its bucolic harmonies and dreamy, restful tones, as wispy as the red-eyed sheet ghost which graces the front of their album. Looker - Gates Of The Old City Now for those of us [...]
