Hey everyone. My man (and long time ninebullets reader), Chris Green , emailed me over the weekend and asked if I'd be interested in a guest post about a band we recently wrote about , Truckstop Darlin'. Naturally, I jumped at it. Hope y'all enjoy it. On this particular rainy Seattle Friday night, like lots of nights, my agenda was to go out and see some kick-ass live music. My plan involved first seeing a friend's band play at a small bar. Since they [...]

Alright, I'm new here so let me introduce myself. My name is Andy Brey and I have a hobby. I like to record live music. Call me a taper, if you will. So, Mr. AIV and I hatched a crazy idea. We are going to embark on a collaborative effort here wherein I occasionally will "guest-post" some live music from around the Tampa Bay area. One caveat before we get started: with a live recording there will be a few gremlins here and there, so I make absolutely no claims with respect [...]

The rains made the night less than hospitable but those of us that made it out were treated to some wonderful music. We arrived just as Knoxville's Matt Woods was wrapping up his set, so I immediately hit the bar for some social lubrication. Two Red Seal Ale s into the night The Most Beautiful Losers took the stage. I've had their CD in my computer room for a few months now, but I've not managed to give it a listen. Live, they're loud, rough and everything rock n' roll is supposed to be. Watching [...]

The December podcast will ring out 2009 here on ninebullets. This month there were no themes and no sponsors, just me, a bottle of sweet tea vodka and a huge list of some of my favorite songs of this year. Some made this podcast but most didn't...not because they were inferior songs, mind you, they just didn't fit the show. Believe it or not, I do try to maintain even flows throughout these things and avoid too many whiplash tempo changes. Had I made the podcast the day before or the day after I did, it probably would have turned [...]

Well, I guess it's my turn. Kasey and RSV have already dropped their faves of the year ( here and here ) on y'all, so there's just no avoiding it for me now. This year was particularly difficult due to the sheer amount of great music that came out, and had I made this list tomorrow it would certainly change. That said, you can edit forever but eventually you have to settle on something and call it your list. So, with out further ado I am gonna steal RSV's formatting and get this show on the road: [...]

I-3 mp3 Truckstop Coffee For Dear Life .... buy it Gas Tank mp3 Truckstop Coffee For Dear Life [ This is the third in a series of guest reviews by my good friend Puppet Show , who has thankfully given in to my begging and agreed to help me out. News of this band came to me from the awesome blog, ninebullets.net and I sent Pup this album for review. Needless to say, he took to it like a pig to shit. I had [...]

Captains Dead Blog joins in the fray at Day 10 of the "Best of 20093 Blogger crew with a list that apparently requires a stroll down memory lane. Honestly, this stroll is one that could be rightfully taken out of yours truly's memory banks....almost. Regardless of the payoff being quite a spectacular list, it just might be worth it for a photo of Greg at 9 years old... ~Smansmith ~~~ The year was 1983... ...the year when I started [...]

Wow. How is it possible that there was this much good music released in 2009? I've been frantically trying to play catch up throughout the Fall and have just been overwhelmed. Even so, this list was relatively easy to compile. It's made up of 30% what you might call punk albums, 32% what could loosely be classified as some type of Americana or alt-country, 10% are of the heavier variety, and the remaining 28% are all over the place. Additionally, the overwhelming majority of albums on my list were released by independent labels (41) but I [...]

Some days things just work together. While I was writing up the review of A Damn Good Ride I dropped by Jeremy Steding's website to look for his bio and such and found out he was playing in town that night. I grabbed a phone number off the site, made a call, and set up some time with him before the show. As luck would have it and one thing leading to another I wasn't as early as I wanted to be but since it was a Thursday night show there wasn't an opening act and [...]

I've gotta thank Bryan from Nine Bullets for pointing me in the direction of Florida's Truckstop Coffee because, damn, their new album, For Dear Life , is better than good and without his recommendation I would (most likely) never have heard of this band. The band plays twangy alt-country rock that reminds me a bit of Gasoline Heart, 500 Miles To Memphis, or maybe even (I know it gets old) Lucero. It's slow-burning rock that's steeped in earnest heartland barroom glory and bluesy Florida nights. It's perfect for drinking... and other things, [...]

Welcome to the November version of the ninebullets.net podcast. This month, since it's Thanksgiving, I decided to do an all Florida version as an homage to the bands that play week in and week out in my home state. You know, the bands we can see so often we take them for granted. Passing up their shows for whatever the current buzz band coming through town that weekend is, with the fleeting promise that you'll catch their show next weekend. Well this month, on ninebullets, is their show. Thanks for all the drunken nights y'all have given us this year, [...]
"Moinmoin. Heute Nacht sind zwei Bären - eine Mutter und ihr Junges - um euer Zelt rumgeschlichen. Habt ihr es auch bemerkt?" So wurden wir am Morgen beim Frühstück von unseren Nachbarn begrüsst. Nein, ausser dass mitten in der Nacht das Lagerfeuer völlig unmotiviert wieder zu prasseln anfing, hatten wir nichts bemerkt. Und dann - ein Spass kommt selten allein: "falls ihr über El Portal nach San

first of all, thanks to bryan @ ninebullets for hooking me up with tampa's truckstop coffee's second full length record, for dear life . second of all, there's no reason for not picking, err downloading this since the fine men of truckstop coffee are offering this up as a pay what you want type of deal. third of all, its a great freakin record and any fan of the truckers, lucero, glossary, slobberbone, the bottlerockets, etc will feel right at home in their rock and the roll stylings. if i did a best new music [...]

Some reviews are tough to write because you like the record but seriously dislike the people in the band, others are tough to write because you love the album but just can't think of anything to say about it beyond that simple fact that you love it, and then there are reviews such as this one... Complete disclosure, I like Truckstop Coffee as people. I sent the cd to other blogs in hopes to help them get some added press and I've even helped hook them up with a booking agent. If those facts are going to bother [...]

Langhorne Slim has been transformed. I'm not sure if it was for love, for sobriety (or maybe both) but the rawkus folker has softened the edges and looked inside himself for inspiration and answers. He dives into some morose subject matter on Be Set Free - loneliness, moving on and hoping things will get better, getting sober – but somehow balances the weight with an optimistic glance to the future. Even with the surprisingly full and well thought out (that little burst of horns on Sunday By the Sea is so [...]

Honestly, this probably wasn't what the band envisioned when they booked a small tour through the Southeast in support of their new album, For Dear Life , but the road can be a cruel mistress and she decided to slap the band around pretty hard this time out. Larry, the drummer, fell head-first into a campfire, resulting in a couple of nights in a Georgia burn unit (for his hand, not his head). Then Bob, the bassist, somehow managed to break a rib. Caleb and Pete managed to make it back to Florida in one piece but Saturday night's [...]

Oh, Tampa/St. Pete. Please, please, please don't let me down. The DJ and his records and that theme night at [insert club here] will all be there next weekend, and every monotonous weekend thereafter, but Truckstop Coffee and Joe Buck are only gonna be here this weekend. Get out and see a show… TRUCKSTOP COFFEE @ NEW WORLD BREWERY, YBOR CITY One of the bands routinely championed on [...]
