It's here, it's now. Wild Weekend , edition 57. Featuring tropical afro funk, ancient blues, and obscure nineties indierock. Plus uncle Bob. How do you like it now? Have a wild one. Alright ladies and gentlemen, let's kick off with a piping hot piece of afro funk courtesy of the wonderfully named Atomic Bomb Zigoto from (I think) Ghana. Their recipe is simple: find the groove as soon as possible, then stay in it. Effortlessly. Call? Answer! Cream on the cake: that screeching Ornette sax near the end. Find it on [...]

At this point the critical reader will certainly offer an objection. "You have been inviting me," he will say, "to do nothing more or less than trust my senses: and this too on the authority of those impracticable dreamers the poets. Now it is notorious that our senses deceive us. Every one knows that; [...]
Well gang, I’m happy to say that these days our Friday Mixtape is really firing on all cylinders. The recent addition of our new Covers section (brought to you by Cover Me) has lifted the mix to a previously unthinkable level of awesomeness, and our other sections are feeding off that new energy. Alright, I might be exaggerating just a bit (I’m not sure if our sections can actively step up their game on their own), but I’m sincere when I say this tape is top notch. For our new formula, we kept the [...]

I can't say I am intimately familiar with Trumans Water. The 19-year-old schizo-guitar-pop outfit, often billed as more Pavement than Pavement—wilder, less sensical, more angular—has spent most of its lifespan in relative obscurity, where it was safe from latte-sipping, Hummer-driving douchebags like me. But now that I've heard the Portland-based quartet's new album, O Zeta Zunis (it's 13th-ish record; out today!), I'm ready to like it and make it uncool. And because Asthmatic Kitty is re-issuing old material, I won't even have to illegally download Trumans Water's back-catalogue! When I first pressed play on "5-7-10 Split," [...]

Trumans Water - "We Fish" From the band's 13th release, O Zeta Zunis , out today on Asthmatic Kitty .

Trumans Water was a name that I had heard here and there throughout my musical journey, but was never a band I actually listened to. Well, I finally got a chance to, and I'm pissed I missed this one. They are a noise rock group based out of Portland that have been jamming out for the past 19 years. They are set to release a new album, O- Zeta Zunis , after taking a 7 year hiatus. What I loved most about there music was the thick wall of sound they created while keeping true to [...]

When Captain America was released from his iceberg prison, he was still under the impression that he was fighting the Axis Powers in World War 2. Sure he didn’t have any fancy technology or laser vision, but his heart and drive made him the go-to-guy when bad-guy arse needed kicking. A similar story is also true of San Diego’s Trumans Water , their clattering racket of lo-fi rock may well be from an era where a Peel Session meant more than twitter followers, but when a party needs rocking old-school-style they’ll be first on your speed dial. [...]

Minchia ritornano pure i Trumans Water.
If you were a fan of underground noise rock in the '90s, you may remember hearing about Trumans Water . The band received a good amount of critical praise but never quite made it in America, instead releasing albums on European labels and touring almost exclusively across the Atlantic. Things have been very quiet from the group in recent years, but it looks like that will soon change with the release of their 13th studio album, O Zeta Zunis , on August 24th. For those of you who do know Trumans Water, you'll be happy to [...]

Trumans Water - "5-7-10 Split" From the spazz-rock/squigglecore pioneers' forthcoming new album, O Zeta Zunis , out 8/24 from Asthmatic Kitty .

trumans water is a band to hold onto fiercely. chaotic, sprawling, churning, controlled, breathless, breathtaking. how the hell did they remember those arrangements? all i can say is they must have practiced a lot. john peel famously played their debut album, 'of thick tum', in its entirety on his show. smart man. released by strange fruit in 1995. your plastic culture sucks and it's gonna blow!
"Come back, fun! How did you leave me within 30 seconds?!" - Tom, delivering the punchline to his classic sitcom joke "Mike said he was donating to the Pharoah Sanders Fund." -- Tom, questioning his Associate Producer's suspicious "charitable contributions" to the jazz saxophonist via Tunes in Hoboken "I don't think there's anything wrong with the idea that this person would fall out of the sky and be the running mate of the oldest President in history." - Tom, lending his support to upstart politician Sarah Palin "I'm [...]
