Chew Lips begin by a techy n' sharp two and a half minute plus puncher that's throwing clenched bullets well above its weight. All alongside the Rockin Tsars remix of Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso's 'Calling' that seems to be their prettiest and best production yet. Togglehead (aka Aaron Metford) gets his picture camera out and takes three snaps that are packed with stadium glossed slides marked: 'Automation,' 'Colossus,' and 'Epilogue.' So Toronto, Canada will be extremely proud there ... Italy's Fresco & FDS provide us with a [...]

Tsars is an indie rock band out of the UK, who formed early this year in London. This four-piece outfit shows uncanny chemistry, given their short time together. The Whisper EP is full of bright, jangly guitars and active beats that are reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys . The title track starts off frenetically and then shifts to a more placid, pensive pace. Reflections is the brightest and most accessible track on the album, and one worthy of air play on BBC 6. Hard Times Ahead broods, but [...]
Totally went off last night at Nate's birthday party. There was a gnarly stripper in a LOST replica DHARMA Initiative jumpsuit, way too much Flip Cup, a 4:00am Dance Dance Revolution competition, and the cops only showed up twice investigating noise complaints! I'd say we successfully dragged the birthday boy into the first hours of his 27th year with style. So, I'm gonna get some rest. How's about a mix tape for you. RULES for uninitiated noobs : I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods [...]
For those of you who were anxiously awaiting the conclusion of my latest Adventures In Dating story, you're going to have to wait a few hours longer. I would be drawn and quartered by a segment of the Swan Fungus readership if I were to skip a Sunday Mix Tape. Tomorrow night I will conclude the story. And now...a mix tape. RULES for uninitiated noobs : I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes [...]
While I was swigging beers at GBV shows and rockin' out with my band Anthemic Pop Wonder in NYC back in 2000, the Los Angeles band Tsar was rockin' out on the other coast. I completely missed 'em; that is, until this week, when my erstwhile new drummer Gary played me some songs from their 2000 major label debut. And the opener 'Calling All Destroyers' just floored me - great energy, massive hooks and more. So here it is, the band Tsar rockin' it out and just smokin' it on this [...]
It must have been fate when the jokingly plugged band The Tsars was presented infront of me. Now Im usually curious but hesitant to listen to 'new' music be it of any genre as there are so many bands out there trying to make a break for stardom and what else comes along with it (insert drugs, sex and alcohol) In this case the The Tsars actually have geniune talent, be it the construction of lyrics of both simple rhyme and deeper meaning to their genre bending sound. My eyes saw and my [...]

Flashback Friday: Tsar - Silver Shifter "I will climb and you will find the moon will shine moonlight" I'm not going too far back in time for today's flashback. Less than a decade actually, to the year 2000 when boy bands and Britney ruled the airwaves. I think a bunch of you have already heard of Tsar. They're sort of famous for having one of the best albums that you can get for [...]
Valentine's Day is all about love and occasionally... forbidden love. We've been the secret admirers of many a Los Angeleno so let this be the day to prove it. Close your eyes, this might get messy... Pleasant People of Henry Clay, You make everyone giddy and giggle and, yes, google up the name "Henry Clay". Your signature front kicks on the downbeat are miraculous, especially when they come
