YC The Cynic – Night Thoughts ft. tUnE-yArDs **mp3** YC the Cynic leaks “Night Thoughts” featuring tUnE-yArDs & produced by Yuri Beats, third single off the upcoming Good Morning, Midnight EP dropping in July.

YC The Cynic – “Night Thoughts” F. tUnE-yArDs

YC The Cynic is back with another cut off his upcoming  Good Morning, Midnight project. And like " Shut Up " before it, "Night Thoughts" is another personal outing for the Bronx MC. But this time, he and producer Yuri Beats have slowed the pace a touch and heavily sampled Potholes fave tUnE-yArDs . The resulting cut is an unofficial, but  ill , collaboration that has us wishing it was July 20 already. That's the release date for  GMM , in case you're wondering.

tUne-yArDs do not disappoint at Summerfest

tUne-yArDs do not disappoint at Summerfest The tUne-yArDs' album,  w h o k i l l , was an album that was in my top 5 of 2011. It may have even been my favorite album of last year and I have been in the market to attend one of their shows for the past year and a half. I finally made it happen at Summerfest for my birthday. July 1st, 2012 will go down as one of my better birthdays of recent memory. Merrill Garbus is an unreal and unusual [...]

Latitude 2012: A Festival Preview

Latitude 2012: A Festival Preview By Sam Cleeve The 2012 Latitude Festival takes place at Henham Park, Southwold, June 12th-15th ( website / tickets ). Latitude started out as something of an alternative to festival season's mainstays – a little more gently pastoral than the post-GCSE armageddon of Reading and Leeds, a little less of the thrilling batshit-bedlam of Glastonbury, whilst altogether less embarrassing than getting caught doltishly gawking at a set from The Enemy at T In The Park. Luckily, that's ( largely ) what it remains. [...]

INDIE ALLSTAR TEAM COVERS FELA KUTI TO SUPPORT AIDS RESEARCH [STREAM]

INDIE ALLSTAR TEAM COVERS FELA KUTI TO SUPPORT AIDS RESEARCH [STREAM] Some giants of the indie rock world and several other amazing musicians have come together with the help of the Red Hot Organization and (red) to raise money for AIDS research. Both organizations have used pop culture icons in the past to raise money, but this latest effort may trump anything that’s comes before it. tUnE-yArDs , ?uestlove, Angelique Kidjo, Akua Naru , and members from Rubblebucket and Antibalas have come together for a powerhouse collaboration cover of “Lady” by the immortal Fela Kuti . The track manages to [...]

BONNAROO 2012 RECAP [FESTIVAL]

BONNAROO 2012 RECAP [FESTIVAL] Photo credit: Lexi Namer After more than a decade of uniting fans of all backgrounds, Bonnaroo sometimes feels less like a music festival and more like a vibrant, thriving city of 80,000 that only springs to life for one weekend every year. The consistently excellent lineups  (headlining this year: Phish , Red Hot Chili Peppers , Radiohead , The Beach Boys , Bon Iver , Avett Brothers , and The Shins ) are always a major draw, but what keeps people coming back is [...]

REVIEW: Rock The Garden 2012 At The Walker Art Center

Rock The Garden is a telltale sign of the musical community we have in the Twin Cities, and the thousands of people that love to be a part of it. Organizations like Minnesota Public Radio and the Walker Art Center are a support system to this scene that we should never take for granted. Along with thousands of others I rode around on a bike all day Saturday, consequently having commuter issues and walking through the gates just as the first act, Howler , finished up. I’m bummed to have [...]

Bloggy Goodness: Box Of Ryan Adams Acoustic Tracks

Bloggy Goodness: Box Of Ryan Adams Acoustic Tracks For a good stretch in the mid-aughts it seemed as if Ryan Adams was putting out a new record just about every few months. After stepping out of the spotlight for a handful of years, due to his struggles with an inner ear disorder, the prolific singer-songwriter returned in 2011 with the release with the highly recommended Ashes & Fire , an album he described as being full of  “elegant country-rock songs.” Tomorrow, Adams will get back to his old over-sharing ways as he will release Life After Deaf, a monster 15 LP vinyl-only box [...]

tUnE-yArDs @ Bonnaroo (6/8)

tUnE-yArDs @ Bonnaroo (6/8) After missing tUnE-yArDs last year at Pitchfork Festival and then reading numerous reports of her killing it, there was no way I was going to make that mistake again. Fortunately, Merril Garbus and co. did not fail to impress, putting on one of the most charming and entertaining sets of the weekend. Garbus builds each track from scratch by recording and triggering numerous loops with vocals, percussion, ukulele and more, which is truly a mesmerizing sight to see. In addition to being one of the most technically skilled performers I saw, she was also one of the most gleeful. It was clear [...]

LIVE REVIEW: Bonnaroo 2012, Day 2

Day 2 of Bonnaroo threw out the constraints of short sets and pumped up the jam from afternoon 'til dawn.

Review and Photos: Bonnaroo 2012

Review and Photos: Bonnaroo 2012 For those whose religion is music, the church doors were open this past weekend as North America’s most hellacious music outing Bonnaroo scorched the famous farm grounds in Tennessee for its 11th consecutive year. The Bonnaroo cliches: Flaming weather. Too many sweaty bros. No shade. Too much music. Bonnaroo said "suck it" to all of that this year. [All Photos by Kevin Fuller ] When people think of Bonnaroo, they think of hot, hot heat. Face-melting, soul-crushing [...]

Festival Review: CoS at Bonnaroo 2012

Radiohead - "Bodysnatchers" - Bonnaroo 2012 (Official Video)
Another year, another Bonnaroo : one long, grueling weekend, filled with lines to write home about, clouds of dust, and the hottest weather you can imagine. That's how it goes every year, right? Actually, this year broke the cycle - and in many ways. Gone were the impossibly long entrance lines of old. This time around, you could get to Manchester on Thursday morning and be inside the gates to set up camp within a half an hour. (The longest wait I personally heard of this year was only three hours, a time that used to be on the [...]

tUnE-yArDs @ Bonnaroo 6.8.12

A great chunk of tUnE-yArDs' Merrill Garbus' performance involves her making very serious, brow-furled faces. She found that a bit harder than normal at Bonnaroo, often cracking a huge grin during stern-faced moments due to her fans' outlandish and often goofy shows of support. Fans arrived with faces painted (a tUnE-yArDs live show constant), banners [...]

Bonnaroo Day Two: Foster the People, St. Vincent Lead an Eclectic Friday

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Kevin Winter, Getty Images After a Thursday evening packed with some of the best rising acts in music, the Bonnaroo fest-goers woke up to a nearly cloudless blue sky and a full Friday of world-class acts. Preempting the excitement were huge, new photo murals of Bruce Springsteen , the Black Keys , and other Bonnaroo legends past in the que to enter through the freshly opened main stages. [...]
