Singing in an unflappable, often-deadpan style, Tunng frontman Sam Genders returns as leader of new London project Diagrams . Together with musician chums, he sings over jaunty, Metronomy-esque maths-rock riffs and, in the case of Tall Buildings (the first track below), glorious peaks that are more like cascades than choruses. These two songs come from debut album Black Light , released today, and if you like them there's good news: Diagrams are playing the Lexington , with support from the fabulous Fairewell , on Wednesday. Conifers - Legs And Arms British IDM project ' Conifers ' might have released only one song, but that's all its taken for some clear Tunng/Black Moth Super Rainbow comparisons to come out on their gentle forays in to electronic folk music. 'Legs And Arms' is predominantly acoustic - but is characterised by a pitch shifting melody and chattering tribal percussion which, taken together, dance into the depths of nature-induced Eastern psychedelia. A debut album is rumoured to be in the works. Conifers - Legs And Arms ( MP3 [...]
Sea of Bees ' 'Gnomes' has been remixed by Tunng , and now the track sounds positively Oriental. With a couple apparitions thrown in. Listen to it and download it below.

These mixes were posted in January and February 2010, the winter of our discontent. Seriously, the blog was on life support during this time. We're through that storm now. 2010 was such a great year for music, and these early mixes show why. Many of the tracks were available in late 2009, but appeared on 2010 releases. Tracks are from late October through late November 2009 Gapless mix ripped at 256k VBR. Download all tracks in one zip file [...]

Tomorrow sees the start of the marvellous Truck Festival near Oxford. We went last year and had a brilliant time and are thoroughly looking forward to this year's event where the line-up includes Gruff Rhys, Graham Coxon, Saint Etienne, John Grant, The Young Knives, Edwyn Collins, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, The Duke & The King, Tunng, Justin Townes Earle, Alessi's Ark, Sea Of Bees, Pete & The Pirates, Caitlin Rose, Lanterns On The Lake, Cashier No. 9 and (as the cliché goes) many, many more. There will also be another Truck America this year in [...]

If you were a fan of the band Tunng , you'll find plenty to love in Diagrams . Recently signed to Full-Time Hobby, Diagrams remind me heavily of that band crossed with a bit of Guiff Rhys and as it turns out they are old friends of Tunng. There's a jovial folk feel to the songs and 'Antelope' in particular skips along at a frolicking pace. How delightful you say! Indeed. Quite. The band's debut 5-track EP is out next week. You can hear it all here and 'Antelope' below: [...]

bear in heaven - "lovesick teenagers (bomarr remix)" (download) Shameless self-promotion here, but I've just released this Remixes, Vol. 1 compilation for free via Bandcamp. It features official remixes I have done for Bear In Heaven , Tunng (Thrill Jockey), Pedestrian , Sister Crayon , Bleubird , Wallpaper and more. I created these remixes between 2005 and 2010, and I'm very proud of them. You can download this whole collection of songs for free via [...]

I've had the eponymous debut EP from Brixton duo Glyphs ( Facebook / SoundCloud ) on repeat for a good part of a month and still find myself having some real trouble describing their sound which draws influences from everything from folktronica to dubstep. Opening track track On & On reminds me a little of the delights I've always found in the electronic folk stylings of Tunng, but the beat they use behind that folk vocal melody has an almost tropical feel to it. Then whilst Little Pieces sounds fragile in places, [...]

Tunng were playing on a Tuesday night at The East Brunswick Club, definitely not our favourite night to venture out, nor our favourite venue to photograph in and put into the mix that Melbourne was in the midst of a cold snap so we weren't terribly enthused, but we had heard they were definitely worth a look and so off we trekked across town for a look. We walked into a jam packed room filled with a wide spectrum of punters ranging from teens wearing their flower power homemade crowns [...]

Australia Tour dates announced February 18th - 24th 2011 Tunng are down-under this month joining The Doves, De La Soul, Caribou, Four Tet and Roy Ayers at the Sydney Playground Weekender. Then on return a show at the East Brunswick in the lovely Melbourne and finally a show at the Perth International Festival. Check their live page for dates and details. We're really stoked they've come back to Oz for these shows and hope to catch one of them for the blog!

2010 was quite a year. It saw graduations, festivals, a move from Athens to Barcelona, the discovery of a new city, a slight, um, slowing down of our blog activity, a World Cup, many flights (17 for me), and a lot of great music. So, without further ado, we present to you: So, how did we compile this rather fantastic list, you ask? Easy, we consulted our trusty last.fm profiles (see the bottom of this page for our individual profiles). We then each chose our top 25 and [...]

I put the emphasis on my because these aren't going to appear on anyone else's run-down of 2010. Or two out of three anyway - the artists of my year actually have a lot in common, but release dates aren't one of them. Not that there wasn't enough good music out in 2010. It's been a long-ass time since I made one of those numbered lists - I used to love doing it, but I think I might have taken it a little too seriously and they would always end up taking me [...]
