What started as a couple guys in a basement studio, one with resounding electronic talent and a real ear for the cleanliness of sound, the other a folky singer/songwriter exploring the freedoms of musical meaning while looking to fit his sound into some defined shape, so developed and manifested itself ...

"Bring me song of the sea... sing me a song of the sea." After a sailor´s theme, a six pack of songs about the sea is so obvious I almost opted out in the end. But as there are simply too many great songs inspired by the briny, I had no choice really. Selecting six beauties out of a truckload of candidates was hard enough. Here´s the ones that made the cut. Robert Wyatt´s contribution stems from his terrific Rock Bottom album. "You look different every time you come from [...]

Black Friday Mix A Dark, Dark Friday According to Macy's, the holiday shopping season has officially begun, and on this, the blackest of Fridays, I have the pleasure of working in retail once again. There'll be tears. There'll be blood. There'll be savings. And there'll be a myriad of shoppers willing to give us retailers the first two all in the name of that third. Whether or not you be the type to brave the crowds and eye-gouge your way to thrifty glory, I send you off with this [...]

Apologies for not writing for a while. I have been so busy dealing with crap and uni and my best friend's birthday WEEK (yes, she celebrated her birthday the entire week). Lol, god, its been one intense mess. I was really down the start of the week, cos so many people were angry at me over [...]
Bloc Party - definitely one of my favourite parties. They've finally released new stuff, and they haven't seemed to bomb completely yet like most buzz bands do + considering they've been in the biz for a while, they're doing swimmingly. Their new release......or soon to be released single "One More Chance" is epic, (I almost typed [...]

Pictured: Tunng Big Wheel Sundays returns in August for another summer season of concerts at the stunning Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park. Guests include British Sea Power, Tunng and Alabama 3 . "This was a thoroughly pleasant way to spend an evening - listening to rich warm music - in a twinkly alfresco setting as a gentle breeze hissed through the trees" ( Daily Telegraph ) "One of the great and simple rituals of London life" ( Financial Times ) Big [...]

![[Concert-Goers: That Misplaced Girl]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1799142_lg.jpg)
[That Misplaced Girl] Concert-Goers is a series aiming to outline all the people you're bound to bump into at a concert. Admittedly, I've fallen into some of these categories. Chances are you've been guilty of being one of these people too. As much as we typically hate these people, it's just not a concert without at least one of them present. This crowd member doesn't usually frequent these things, but she couldn't help but come tonight - that one song the band plays that got featured on Gossip [...]

I was very slow to get into Tunng, mainly because I always imagined them to be a euro-dance act, but, when I did, I was blown away by their 2007 album "Good Arrows". My particular favourite on the album is Hands , a beautiful song that grows and builds around a central riff. Tunng are fantastic at packing so much into their 3-minutes and Hands is a prime example of this. A hypnotic acoustic ditty is mainly accompanied by group harmonies and very little else. The vocals are full of reverb and high up in [...]

Not to bemoan a pleasantly untidy Scottish lass with serious enough chops to rival Patti Lupone and a saucy affection for Piers Morgan, but a large swath of the UK would like it to be known that their pool of musical talent does extend beyond spunky YouTube sensations and glissading child ballerinas warbling like Julie Andrews. Even irascible rascal Simon Cowell would agree – we hope – that gifted, genre-defying singer-songwriters like James Yuill deserve the same adulation as Susan Boyle on this side of the pond; hence Uncensored Interview continues our biweekly [...]

I came across Tunng a few years ago, they are a pretty cool uk folk band that embrace modern electronics and pretty much anything else they can get their hands on, including seashells and glass bottles to create nice quirky tracks. Another cool band I found, were Sleep Whale (formally MOM), from Texus, these guys are pretty similar, using classical instruments, samplers and programs like Ableton to create what they call ' folktronica. ' Worth a listen. Tunng - Tales from the black [...]
Sometimes you just pass a song by or should I say it just passes you by. Maybe it's not an instant track, maybe the intro is long and doesn't kick in for a while, maybe you'll discover it nearly two years down the line lurking in your iTunes, maybe it's Bullets by Tunng. Well worth a second chance. MP3: Bullets - Tunng

Possibly the world's favorite African band, Tinariwen return to the U.S. after a long desert hiatus and fresh off a UK tour with folk/electronic group Tunng ( watch Tunng video ). With a new concert DVD entitled Live In London (World Village 458086), Tinariwen's mesmerizing live show is infamous among both world music and rock fans alike, as the group's music and fascinating story have captured imaginations across genres. Tinariwen on [...]

I often walk around Soho wondering what is going on behind the scenes - do businessman actually get any after stumbling several tequillas in excess and loose-tied into an establishment of loose morals? (I hear said loose morals mostly apply to the shafting you get on the price of drinks.) In fact, if the band/collective Tunng 's history is anything to go by, it's more likely that Soho is harbouring little gems of musical genius in its dark and musty basements - their life started in a basement studio beneath a clothes shop in Soho. Tunng's sound [...]

Sping. SPRING. Hurry the FUCK UP for Christ's sake before we all go fucking mental. Good grief what a long drawn out wait it has been. Some sunshine would be nice. A cup of tea in the garden would be nice. Actually, even the chance to go outside of a weekend and rescue the garden from the tangle of weeds and fallen leaves it has become over the winter would be nice. Obviously there'd have to be coke and whores afterwards, just to keep up the rock 'n' roll pretensions, but for now a nice cuppa and a Rich Tea [...]

Hey folks - Aoife here again. As I type, it's late Sunday night/early Monday morning and Niall is running around the flat packing for SXSW. Bless him, he's been RSVPing to parties all weekend. My heart bleeds for him, it really does. After a bit of a delay, our March podcast is ready. Hope you enjoy it. London's folk electronics outfit Tunng has recently latched onto LA's (another folk electronica outfit) The Long Lost and remixed their song "Amiss" from their forthcoming album out this month via Ninja Tune . Tung's re-imagination doesn't reinvent but rather puts it into a different dress. The same vibe is there but with less jazz elements and a more pronounced rhythm. Oh and a magnificent ending as well. mp3: The Long Lost - Amiss (Tunng Remix) Related posts: Remix: Micachu takes on Metronomy's [...]
