Being the 10th anniversary of the widely recognized Rock The Bells Music Festival, we had an idea that organizers would go big to mark the [...]

People are quick to judge Snoop Dogg's new, Rastafari-influenced music, but they're even quicker to forget that his breakthrough record was about killing undercover cops. He rolled with the Dogg Pound, flaunted his blue flags, and once was signed to the most infamous label in music alongside fellow stars Dr. Dre and Tupac. But, in many ways, Snoop grew to become the antithesis of it all, including Pac. Where Makaveli was the fiery, passionate personality who threw himself head first into situations, Snoop kept himself away from beef and controversy, especially after he narrowly managed [...]
Well, covering old classics has always been something that bands like to to. No matter if young bands cover the songs by their idols or well-known bands do covers for other reasons. In fact, covers don't have to be good. Often they are not at all, since they seem like cheap versions of great songs. [...]

Tyga's pron foray must've paid well. That's the only plausible way to explain how T-Raw found a way to clear old verses from Tupac for the track "Hit 'Em Up." [...] The post Tyga Ft. 2Pac & Jadakiss – "Hit Em Up" appeared first on The Smoking Section .

While you've been out drinking beers and catching tunes in the warm Austin rays, some of us are firmly planted in the cold Northeast, glued to the Internet, and catching up on all the music news that is sort of fit to print. At this point, you would think we'd all be used to Tupac Shakur's memory being exploited. After all, the late rapper has had more albums released since he died than within his lifetime. That bein... Continue reading "Somebody Please Stop Tupac's Mom" >

It looks like Tupac's estate is making some major moves, as they are under new management and they have plans of releasing a ton of music. The management company is called Jampol Artist Management and they will have control of everything from posthumous releases to merchandising and licensing. His mother, Afeni Shakur, had this to say about the move: "I believe it is our responsibility to make sure that Tupac’s entire body of work is made available for his fans. My son left many incomplete pieces and even more unfinished ideas. Using the blueprints he gave us, I am committed to [...]

Filed under: Video , Exclusive Christopher Polk, Getty Images Should artists' careers continue after they die? That's the question the fine folks behind CBS' Jukebox Jury put to freelance music writer Devon Maloney and I a few weeks ago. Devon, who contributes to Spinner and is wrong about everything she says here, argues that posthumous careers are a good thing. I, the Editor of Spinner and a person of great knowledge, argue against her, [...]
The votes are in! Mumford & Sons, along with a newly-reunited Postal Service, will headline the 12th annual Sasquatch! Festival in George, Washington May 24-27. The lineup is yet again a full palate of musical goodies for fans to revel in, from tumblr upstart and techno princess Grimes to the inimitable Cake. No virtual performances à la Coachella though-don't expect another Tupac resurrection this year. Here are some things to look out for during the fest-other than potential Squatch sightings: 1. Azealia Banks' Twitter account: After throwing repetitive, slightly catchy combo punches at [...]
90s hip-hop was often overshadowed by the East/West Coast rivalry. Despite the fact that Tupac seemed to be West Coast's representative of this feud, the vintage video above, filmed in 1996, shows Tupac greeting members of Duck Down for a recording session. Together, they were to release a collaborative LP titled One Nation that would symbolize the unity between the two coasts, quelling the rivalry. Says 'Pac in the video: "We're working on a new project called One Nation... It's gonna be an East Coast-West Coast collaboration." The project was never entirely realized after [...]

There aren’t too many festivals where you get to experience 2pac, who has been dead for 17 years, perform live on stage. Even as a hologram, it is still pretty damn impressive. COACHELLA Valley Music and Arts Festival has been up and running since 1999, and if they managed to (almost) bring back the dead last year, who knows what’s in store for 2013. COACHELLA has become one of the most sought after festivals around, with people flying from all over to see [...]

It just wouldn't feel like the end of the year without Skillz giving us the rundown on what went down over the last 12 months, would it? So here it is: the '2012 Rap Up', where Skillz breaks the comings and goings of the last 365-odd days down into bite-sized rap chunks. Lebron and Linsanity, Blue Ivey and Instagram, Tupac holograms, the Mayans killing off the world... it's all here. You might want to make the most of this one too, as it looks like after a decade [...]
