Coachella 2013: For people who want good music and have too much money

Holograma de Tupac en Coachella 2012
What up, Coachella... you ratchet... Oh, Coachella. The world has such a love and a hate for you. Each year, you bring us such an amazing line-up that we go crazy with excitement. So crazy in fact, that you've now whored yourself out to two weekends of the same show (yes, with some differences in [...]

[Hip-Hop] James Brown – Unchained (The Payback/Untouchable)

[Hip-Hop] James Brown – Unchained (The Payback/Untouchable) No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That title does say  James Brown   and  2Pac . The two musical legends have collaborated from beyond the grave, creating the title track for the Django Unchained soundtrack. This work is the product of Tupac's engineer Claudio Cueni , who was able to render a stellar mashup between Brown's "The Payback" and Shakur's "Untouchable." I'm usually not a fan of music created posthumously, and think it's probably time to stop milking Pac for all his legacy's worth. However, it's easy to see that this one is more [...]

James Brown & 2Pac – “Unchained (The Payback/Untouchable) ”

James Brown & 2Pac – “Unchained (The Payback/Untouchable) ” When we shared the tracklist for the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's forthcoming movie, Django Unchained , the names James Brown and 2pac must've raised some eyebrows. But, as proven by Hologram 2pac, anything is possible. Today, the track "by" the two deceased artists, titled "Unchained (The Payback/Untouchable)," has surfaced. Crafted by 2pac's engineer, Claudio Cueni, the song is a mash-up in the truest sense, taking the hook from 'Pac's "Untouchable" and blending it with Brown's "The Payback." Listen to the anthemic "Unchained (The Payback/Untouchable)" below, and pray for a James Brown hologram so [...]

Tupac & James Brown Are “Unchained”: Hear The Immortal ‘Django Unchained’ Mash-Up

Django Unchained is the first Quentin Tarantino film for which the director has commissioned original music. The first new track we heard from the comp was Rick Ross ' "100 Black Coffins,"  and now we're getting the theme song "Unchained," which continues 2Pac 's 2012 resurrection . The song comprises Shakur's "Untouchable" mashed up with James Brown 's "The Payback." The result is like a more overblown "Otis," which memorably sampled  Otis Redding 's soulful yelp. While we would've rather heard the iconic Brown song crossed [...]

Tupac poem used in new Ford advert

Tupac poem used in new Ford advert "Don't sell out, get the hell out" - Tupac Shakur Despite dying almost 20 years ago, Tupac still manages to find his way into the headlines. First we had the groundbreaking 'Hologram Tupac', which was relatively short lived , and now he's endorsing the new car (Fusion) from Ford. His poem 'The Rose That Grew From Concrete' is recited in Ford's latest advert as the car is created from a block of concrete (see below). Unfortunately neither the original Tupac, or his hologram self are around [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Music Appreciation Ben Stansall, AFP We give our modern day rock stars a lot of grief, and often for good reason. Good Album, m.A.A.D. skills

Good Album, m.A.A.D. skills Get ready to lose your goddamn mind rap fans, because in case you have been living under an anti-hiphop rock, Kendrick Lamar released a new album  good kid, m.A.A.d. city , and it is on fire. I have always found Lamar a little hit and miss, but this album is getting amazing reviews and after a few listens, I would agree that this is some of his best work to date. With this album he has cemented himself as the new voice of the west coast scene. In it Lamar channels the [...]

The Importance of Kendrick Lamar

A while back, my dude B-Nease, aka the Black Kevin Arnold, put up a Tweet about his mom asking him who Kendrick Lamar was. His reply: “The best rapper in the world.” Not since Ice Cube could the West Coast lay claim to the best rapper on the planet. Nobody was touching Ice Cube when  Amerikkka’s Most Wanted  and  Death Certificate  were causing pants-soiling fear across suburban America. Nobody was safe during Ice Cube’s prime: not the police, government, former friends from N.W.A, or the activator section at Walgreen’s. The East Coast, fiercely protective of its [...]
