I came across the band Turbo Fruits for the first time in 2010, when they supported Band of Skulls , my favourite band. It was a very grey and cold day and the people in the audience were quite bored and not very happy. However, things changed, when Jonas Stein (vocals, guitar and former member of Be Your Own Pet ), Kingsley Brock (guitar, backing vocals), Dave McCowen (bass, backing vocals) and Matt Hearn (drums) suddenly went through the crowd to then get onto the stage. They might have come out of nowhere, but [...]

While most of the music business were readying themselves for the musical, physical, and emotional onslaught of South by Southwest, a brave few got the party started early at Savannah Stopover . Already in its third year, the festival, as its name might indicate, "capitalizes on the logistical good fortune of Savannah, Georgia’s proximity to interstates 95 and 10 by presenting traveling musicians with a welcoming place to play en route to Austin's annual SXSW." In a way, Stopover definitely serves the role as a warm up for many bands. Established acts like Thurston Moore can test-run [...]

Over the next 10 days, more than a quarter-million of motivated artists and industry personnel will descend upon Austin. New York musicians will speed 26 hours and 1,500 miles to Texas’s capital, while Los Angeles filmmakers will make the three-hour flight into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Some start-ups will walk to the festival, while other musicians will travel halfway around the globe. They all come for one purpose: the 27th annual South By Southwest . The 10-day festival, which includes music, film, and interactive segments, unites credential-wearing hordes in a party-hopping, buzz-building extravaganza. Some registrants will partake in [...]

In their Michael Carter-directed video, Nashville's Turbo Fruits are all about biker gangs. Featuring a variety of stylin' hogs, the garage-rock quartet hangs with the toughest of crowds while the song "Harley Dollar Bill$" appropriately soundtracks their adventures. The single is off of their Jim Eno-produced third full-length "Butter," and although most of its songs aren't as smooth as the fattening condiment the record gets its name from, their charm and rough edges as a band sure do translate well throughout the album. "Butter" is out now on Kings of Leon's label Serpents & Snakes. [...]
