By Contributor Andrew Johnson This weekend probably has a light schedule as far as Nashville goes, but you should still check out some live music if you can. Friday As Matt already mentioned in his post titled More National Love for the Nashville Rock Scene , the Turbo Fruits are playing their "Butter" record release show at Exit In with Ranch Ghost, King Karl , and Fox Fun . Doors at 8 pm, General Admission $8 if you pre-order or $10 on the [...]
Stream: Turbo Fruits - “Butter” (full album)

Where the Stars Don't Shine.

Nashville based garage-rockers, Turbo Fruits have a wonderfully nasty sound about them. A sound forged out of sweaty garage sessions, and the staunch, repetitive use of power chords. It's down and dirty rock-n-roll reminiscent of early Kings of Leon records. Which makes sense as their upcoming studio album, Butter , is being released through Kings of Leon's Serpents and Snakes Records this September 11th. Take a listen, and download the meandering rocker "Sweet Thang" below. Also, be sure to also take a listen to the just released title track from the [...]
Kings of Leon's Serpents & Snakes Records is excited to announce that Turbo Fruits has confirmed a run of headlining tour dates for September 2012, when they will hit the road in support of their forthcoming full-length record, Butter (out September 11th). The 12-date tour kicks off on September 5th in Birmingham, AL, and winds its way around the Southeast, Midwest, and East Coast, culminating with a performance at Austin, TX's Beerland. Having recently wrapped up a 65-day tour with Deer Tick, Turbo Fruits' spastic, explosive live act is tighter than ever, praised by Consequence of Sound for their "speakeasy [...]

As previously reported , Nashville garage rockers Turbo Fruits will release their third album, the Jim Eno-produced Butter , through Kings of Leon's Serpents and Snakes Records on September 11th. And one week before that, the stage-mucking troupe will strike out for a month-long tour beginning in Birmingham, AL. Check out the their full schedule below; they also have a hometown gig with Guided By Voices on July 26th and an early October show in Austin, TX. To accompany the tour announcement, the band unveiled Butter 's lead single, "Harley [...]

Even at the age of 71 Bob Dylan shows no signs of slowing down both in his recording output and live dates. On September 11, Zimmy will release Tempest , the 35th studio album in his long and storied career, which he produced under his pseudonym Jack Frost and includes not only an ode to John Lennon called Roll On John, but also a 14-minute long track about the Titanic. Later this year Dylan will team up with former Dire Straits front man Marc Knopfler for a North American arena tour - Bob's first since 2006. [...]
G arage-Rock-Band Turbo Fruits are releasing a single off of their upcoming album Butter , titled "Harley Dollar Bill$" as their ode to two wheeled motorized transportation. I've been a fan of these guys for the last few years, their brand of fuzzed, garage rock... it's full of youthful energy that feels full of irreverence. Look for Butter on 9/11 Tour dates: 07-26 Nashville, TN – Marathon Works (w/ Guided By Voices) 09-05 Birmingham, AL – The Bottletree Cafe 09-06 Atlanta, [...]

I have to admit that I don't really recall loving the last Turbo Fruits album but I am loving this tune. I cranked up it for the kiddos last night and we danced around the kitchen - the tell-tale sign of a good summer tune. New album will be titled Butter and will be out on September 11th via Serpents & Snakes and was produced by Jim Eno of Spoon fame. If you dug the Yukon Blonde release from earlier this year, you'll dig this. Here are some tour dates for good measure: 07-26 Nashville, TN [...]

"You are the music while the music lasts." -T.S. Eliot Antony - "Landslide" It doesn't seem like much time passes between each excellent new sample of Just Tell Me That You Want Me , a stellar collection of indie musicians covering Fleetwood Mac. One of the best is Antony Hegarty's take on karaoke staple "Landslide", the idiosyncratic singer's rich, operatic voice ringing out over simple acoustic guitar accompaniment. The track (originally released in 1975) sounds as fresh and haunting as ever, Hegarty's lilt on the last verse somehow [...]

Before Turbo Fruits drop their third album, Butter , in September, the band will release a split 73 with fellow Tennesseans Bad Cop on July 31st via Jeffery Drag Records. Turbo Fruit's contribution, "Love Tennessee", is a rumbling love letter to the Volunteer State, using fuzzy guitars and washed-out vocals to celebrate its residents' shared love of drinking whiskey and partying hard. Stream it below (via Prefix ). The Jim Eno-produced Butter will hit stores on September [...]

Need some garage rock for your Saturday? Look no further than the combo of Turbo Fruits and Bad Cop. These two Nashville bands are so raw and gritty that you'll be left dizzy after listening. The great thing about garage bands like these guys, is that their music seriously sounds like it's being played live right in your living room (or car)(or wherever else you might be, I guess). There's no made for radio polished productions, just in your face power that shows the bands' real emotions. Garage rock never sounds perfect, but it's always a good time. That's all [...]

June 15th, 2012 marked my 212th Deer Tick show (give or take some exaggeration,) and to be honest, I thought this might be the show where I didn't have such a great time. Every single one of the friends that would normally stride into a Tick show with me like Dr. Gonzo would Raoul Duke, couldn't make it for that evening's festivities. I was flying solo. Who was I going to play air guitar with? Who was going to swill PBR tall boys with me? Who would scream "Let's [...]

photos by Chris Graham Deer Tick in Portland, OR - 5/25/12 Deer Tick played a free show in Red Hook Park last night (6/21) with Jonny Corndawg . Pictures from that show are coming soon, but in the meantime, here are some pictures from a Portland, OR show in May from their tour with Turbo Fruits . Deer Tick will be sticking around NYC to [...]

"I don't know why I'm even here for this fly by night festival, but I love of Montreal," said the irritated (yet excited) man behind me in line to get into Northside Festival 's "main event." While the third act for the big show was waiting to go on, McCarren Park's blacktop was less than a quarter full as the people who should've been watching were stuck behind a fence waiting in line for 30 minutes. While Northside festival aims to reach the same caliber of showcase-based festivals such as SXSW and CMJ, something makes it miss the mark, [...]

Live music picks for MONDAY JUNE 11 through SATURDAY JUNE 16, 2012. For NXNE shows, click over to our 2012 NXNE preview as well as our list of free shows to check out at NXNE . MONDAY JUNE 11 / DEER TICK / LEE'S PALACE / 529 BLOOR W / $28.13 / 19+ I never realized it before, but there's a fair amount of bands with the word "Deer" in their name. Deerhunter, Deerhoof, Deer Tick...well, ok, maybe there's not that many. But I digress. [...]

Truth: The idea of summer evolves over time. For years and years, it used to be this "great escape," where assignments and books were tossed aside in lieu for swimming pools, greasy rock 'n' roll, and late-night debauchery - something director Richard Linklater captured pretty well . It's a little different for someone in their late twenties. We still hate our assignments, but we actually love our books (let's hope), we're far too critical of rock 'n' roll, and a wild night is usually predicated on how much money we've wasted on drinks we've puked up in some lonesome alley. [...]

The TF guys recently wrapped up work for their third album, Butter , with help from producer Jim Eno; you can hear the first single, "Sweet Thang" here . In anticipation of this bound-to-be-wild-and-crazy show in the Mainroom MFR had a chat with Jonas Stein (vocals, guitar), about tour, the new material, and the crazy shit the band does on days off. [...]
