The group started the recording in 2008, but put things on hold when drummer Jerry Fuchs died suddenly and tragically after falling down an elevator shaft in 2009. His drumming on What Is the Meaning of What represents his last recordings, and the record was finished with the help of LCD Soundsystem's Pat Mahoney, Disappears' Brian Case and other artists from DFA. A new track from dance rock outfit Turing Machine here. It's from the forthcoming album, What Is The Meaning Of What , which will be the group's first album in eight years. Look for it on Temporary Residence on May 8th. With this track, "Slave to the Algorithm," the trio robotically pulsates its way through a tight groove with some crisp drums, retro synths, a smooth bassline, and what sounds like an autoharp as well. It's an interesting variation on a familiar formula. LCD Soundsystem's Pat Mahoney and a few DFA relatives [...]

Can't talk. Watching Dead Snow . It's a Norweigan horror-comedy about Nazi zombies. It's about the best thing I've seen in quite some time. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. No theme tonight, just me watching zombie [...]
I almost skipped this week's Sunday Mix Tape. There are but four or five days left until my massive Top 100 Albums Of 2009 list is published, and it will contain many, many downloadable songs. I could not think of anything else to blog about today, so I decided I'll skip next week's Mix Tape instead. It's more likely I will feel a hangover from the effort that will go into preparing Friday's blog post, so it will be nice to skip next Sunday. Of course, my last-minute decision to compile some songs tonight left me with nary an MP3 [...]

This didnt exactly happen yesterday but I, like alot people out there, was quite saddened by the death of drummer Jerry Fuchs . He was due to play on our shores this summer with The Juan Maclean, but now not so. You can hear his distinct motorik-style of playing resonate and drive the direction of most of those bands. Here's a few tracks by the man. Maserati by the way are freaking amazing (yes Angus). MP3: Maserati - Monoliths MP3: Maserati - Show me [...]

Both Vince and myself posted earlier this week about the tragic untimely death last weekend of phenomenal drummer Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs............words can't express the staggering loss of this uber-kind & humble talent, but hopefully the below track will help paint a picture of the metronomic, humanly mechanical force that was Jerry behind the drum kit [...]
I'm still shocked about the unbelievably terrible tragedy that occurred this past weekend - Georgia-born Brooklyn fixture, masterful metronomic drummer Jerry Fuchs (Maserati, Turing Machine, !!!, The Juan Mclean, and more) fell down an elevator shaft late Saturday night and died shortly thereafter. My interactions with Jerry were minimal, but every time we spoke I felt [...]

Maserati drummer died this weekend after falling down an elevator shaft
Athens, GA/Brooklyn, NY instrumental psych-dance-post-rock-metal-wh atever band Maserati are one of those bands that are extremely difficult to pigeonhole beyond simply saying "awesome." Three separate people told me that I had to see this band at this past year's SXSW, and on the festival's final day I had an opportunity in a packed backyard patio at [...]

If I had the opportunity + the rocks (pun unintended) to rip off some drug dealers and get away with my 'nads intact, I guess I would do it. But how often does that chance pop up? It would have to be a serious amount of money (or the potential for such, in the form of several kilos of...well, whatever ) to be able to effectively go on the lam and make oneself permanently scarce, as would likely be a necessity. Honestly though - the dealers you or I come in contact [...]
