Anyone out there remember the Lucksmiths song Detective Agency from their album the Green Bicycle Case? New Seattle band Detective Agency don't sound anything like that Australian band, but that was the kind of my logic going on in my head when I clicked on a link to listen to them a few months ago. Better points of reference would be Tiger Trap , Ramones , Tuscadero and perhaps the Shop Assistants . Up until last week they had a few songs floating around the internet. I [...]
:: Krazy Fest is inching closer every day , and I'm getting more and more excited! :: All kinds of rad bands - and also Kid Rock - are covering Buddy Holly songs . :: The Jane's Addiction concert tonight at Google's I/O conference in San Francisco will be live streamed. :: Speaking of which, Google is expected to announce its long-awaited music service at I/O today - but without securing any licensing deals. It'll hobble Music Beta a bit, but [...]

This whole go back to the 902s thing isn't just for guy bands. Amy Franz and Hayley McKee of Melbourne, Australia duo Super Wild Horses are conjuring the recent past on their debut album 15 just released on Hozac in the States and Aarght! in their home country. Its bouncy rhythms have a playful Tuscadero feel to them, though I don't think Super Wild Horses are as hopped up on sugar as Tuscadero were back in the day. Fifteen also owes a little to the Columbus, Ohio trio Scrawl . [...]

Unrest: Make Out Club [ Purchase ] Tuscadero: The Teenbeat Song [ Purchase at Teenbeat store ] Andrew Beaujon: Dots Per Square Inch [ Purchase ] I've been out of the country for most of the week and I can't say I am someone who follows whole record labels much anyway, but I felt I had to post about Teenbeat Records while [...]
I compiled the 59 minutes and 59 seconds of this week's mix differently than I normally do. With the exception of the one Duffy track I've been playing all week, almost all of the songs are on the oldish side, and many of them date to the way outre millennial era. I was in a hurry leaving the house today and only had time to grab a wallet full of old mix CDs I made seven or eight years ago. There's actually four songs on here from a CD-R I made called 'The Best of 2001 (Jan-March)'. [...]

My brother paid a visit to Armagideon Time HQ last Saturday and asked if he could borrow some CD's from our extensive archives. Some of the albums he was looking for fell into the as-yet-undigitized category, which meant a taking a trip to the attic to mine for musical gold amongst the piles of haphazardly stacked retrological detritus. (The above picture is extremely out of date. Multiply the stuff depicted by a factor of three for a more accurate idea of the present state of affairs.) I tend to forget it until a third party points it out [...]

How amazing would it be if a group like the ELF kidnapped a young socialite like, say, Paris Hilton, and then eventually she ended up robbing banks and blowing up Hummers in the name of their cause. I truly can't imagine anything better. This is a great song about Patty Hearst/Tania that can only be found on the "1998 Teenbeat Sampler" which you can still pick up for the low, low price of $6.00. On a related note, someone needs to Photoshop Paris' head on this picture and sell it as a t-shirt on Threadless or something. [...]

Well, of course , it is my absolute dream to one day throw off the noose of honest work and become the handclaps/marimba player in a classic C86-throw back band, right? And the first thing I'll do is pen a poppy little number featuring my favorite celebrity...because that's what twee and indie-pop bands do, right? Nabokov Is A Raunchy Lepodopterist John Cusack Attack Nice One, Bill Bryson Are you David Gedge Experienced? Karl Rove Is A Stone Cold Killah But these guys did it better, [...]
