It's hard to dislike the premise: three Israelis, living in Berlin, making Dinosaur Jr.-esque crunch-pop. Wären TV Buddhas Mitte 70er Jahre durch die USA getourt, noch im Jetstream von Ramones und Modern Lovers, hätte man sie auf Händen getragen. Vor dem legendenträchtigen CBGB's hätte man damals über die Wucht der Drummerin und die Attitüde des Frontsängers gefachsimpelt. Heute sieht das anders aus. Im letzten Herbst reiste das dreiköpfige Garagegespann in das Land der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten, nur um sich an dessen Begrenztheit den Kopf anzustossen. Nam June Paik (1932-2006) was a Korean-born American multimedia artist. He apparently holds the particular lofty title of "first video artist" ( Wikipedia ). TV Buddhas , originally from Tel-Aviv, are on the last leg of their first U.S. tour, bringing with them the remnants of punk and garage rock: distorted guitars, grungy solos, and a badass female drummer.
