It seems Manchester Orchestra 's frontman Andy Hull can take pretty much any song and dress it up as his own. His attempt at TV On The Radio 's "Will Do" on the band's bus before a show in Ohio is proof of it. He brands the song's delicate use of digital and electric sounds, including keys, guitars and synths, with his famous aged/raspy style vocals and minimal use of acoustic guitar strings. This is off of their #3.09 YouTube channel episode series. You can check out more Manchester Orchestra behind [...]

There's a lot of pork in Asheville, NC. Like, tons. Everywhere you go, they're advertising beef, BBQ, and, well, pork. It's sort of funny because there's also a lot of tofu. (Hey, vegans gotta eat something.) And yet it's this polarizing, yet mutual, relationship that exemplifies the town's unique persona. Oh, delightful food. But food bonds us. It's the one thing that anyone can agree upon (anorexics, religious fanatics excluded): We gotta eat. And with a weekend party like Moogfest , which essentially strangles the town for three long nights, the overall community of food is an [...]

photos by Diana Wong Tangerine Dream & fan The annual music festival Moogfest took place this Halloween weekend down in Asheville, North Carolina. Countless bands we know and love played over the course of its three days including The Antlers, Atlas Sound, Austra, Anika, The Field, AraabMuzik, Flying Lotus, Chromeo, TV on the Radio, Moby, Matthew Dear, Tangerine Dream, and many more. And that was just Friday. Friday pictures [...]

Hello...how are you? Well, it's been quite a long time. Perhaps there are two or three of you out there who still may read this. It's been a landmark year for me in terms of the gigs I managed to see. Mainly because I kept leaving Winnipeg. In February, I got to see Gang of Four in Toronto, and they were one of the most exciting bands I've ever seen. Unlike The Buzzcocks, who I saw last year, GoF are still clearly passionate and earnest about what they do. Andy Gill was a badass, and Jon King was a maniac. [...]

Let's face it, the spooky Halloween sound effects from elementary school isn't going to cut it any more. The "Monster Mash" has been smashed and the only good version of "I've Put a Spell on You" comes from the Disney hit Hocus Pocus. So a few of the writers here have decided to take matters [...]

As Rocktober draws to a close, there's little left to do but get all dressed up in Drive jackets and Kahl Drogo / Khaleesi from Game of Thrones and host a fun little party. The question arises: Do we get this party started or do we stick with the spookiness of Halloween? We decided to go with the latter and make a playlist (via Spotify ) of some of our favorite, scary, messed up, shifty, and uncomfortable songs to guarantee to to anything but get the party started. Well, it depends [...]

Earmilk Streets is how you get involved. Consider this your official invitation to get milky & get connected. We've officially moved to a street level takeover with the empire spreading across North America. And as with any proper imperial occupation, we need soldiers - but great power comes great responsibility. A responsibility to spread the word of milk and a duty to accept discounts, gear, and of course all vip access to Earmilk events. I'll be damned if The Coast of Nebraska isn't attempting a great musical feat, releasing a new EP every month for the rest of the year. Sounds like a huge amount of work, and I wouldn't be convinced had the October EP not made its way over to our inbox. Looks like the big hit off this EP is going to be "Dark Signal," an electronic exploration of pop, with a tendency to sound a bit like Tunde of TV on the Radio . Give this one [...]

English indie rock band Arctic Monkeys returned to Raleigh tonight, Oct. 12, and performed at Disco Rodeo . The band visited the venue April 2010, but this year brought along Smith Westerns to open. Chicago-based Smith Westerns released their sophomore album earlier this year. Since then, they have played with TV on the Radio , Cults and Yeasayer , in addition to international festivals including Austin City Limits Music Festival , Fyf Fest , Leeds Festival , Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo . By now, the average Earmilk reader knows at least three things about a great mix: 1. The first is that an accomplished DJ will use songs that you would never expect to hear, yet uses them in a way that completely works with the overall mix. 2. The second is that a successful mix involves the listener: taking them gently by the hand, and guiding them through a tasteful assortment of genres and artists. (And if the average mix is at least thirty minutes, they had better be tasteful.) If the songs are accurately [...]
