Different column today, but I wanna share something pretty darn cool. If you're like me and travel quite a bit and listen to a lot of music, you probably know that really small/compact portable speakers are a dicey affair. I've gone through at least 10 different makes/models over the last couple of years. They all promise big sound and lightweight, but in the end have all been pieces of crap. It's just nearly impossible to find something incredibly small that has worthwhile sound quality. If they sound decent, then they take up way too [...]

Nineteen year old Bloomington Indiana resident and international man of mystery, known as Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt, released his first full length LP, Tweaker In The Park, last month. After honing his craft in various basements and bedrooms, and accumulating over 300 tracks on the hard drive of his computer, this industrious young Hoosier has found himself with a deal with Gulcher (Kurt Vile's first label). According to his Bandcamp page, the "11 track album (is) about crazy people, oceans, and murder. Recorded in the basement of a dorm, spawned from craziness and late nights". Check out [...]

One of my favorite artists to emerge in the mid 902s was Poe . I didn't pay much attention to her until the release of Haunted , an eerie alternative rock/pop album which included recordings of her dead fathers voice between the tracks. Poe's father was film director Tad Danielewski. After he died, she and her brother found cassette tapes, recorded in the form of audio letters to them chronicling their childhood all the way back to their birth. Her brother wrote a book House of [...]

Modern Man — Tweaker to Santa Fe Coma Cinema has yet to fail me when it comes to recommendations , so when he gave fellow South Carolinians Modern Man a stamp of approval , I listened. The group's got a 5-track EP up on their bandcamp , and although its painfully short (just over the 10-minute mark) there's nary a bad moment on it. Assuming these guys can fill an LP with melodic, scuffed-up jams like "Tweaker to Santa Fe", there's very good reason for [...]

Tweaker (featuring David Sylvian) - Linoleum (Teargas & Plateglass Remix)
This was written by me sometime in 2002. It was featured at my writing website until I took everything down. I read it recently, and feel it needs to be shown again, though I did rewrite parts here and there. Let`s talk for a moment about love, and risk... Love is not a rose to be looked at. Love is a sledgehammer. Love is not gentle. Love kicks down doors in blind drunken rages. Love is art, and Love does not care about the artists involved. Love takes what it wants, [...]

Tweaker featuring Robert Smith - Truth Is Tweaker featuring Will Oldham - Ruby Tweaker featuring David Sylvian - Linoleum
Ooh! This topic could be fun! If you regularly play video games, you probably know the wide variety of music styles that you hear and know how it really can add to (or detract from) the game. If you don't play them, you probably figure it's all bloopy 8-bit music like the stuff you remember from Tetris, or otherwise it's all weird Japanese songs. But there are some excellent composers working for video games now, and now even film composers or regular musicians are signing on for the chance to score their favorite games. When possible, I'm linking [...]
