Twig Palace - Wicker Frames

Ms Valerie Park Distro From: Olympia, Washington, United States Tonight's post is another in the Devil's irregular globetrotting tour of the world's musical hotspots. After Christchurch, Newcastle, Liverpool and Montreal tonight we're visiting Olympia, Washington courtesy of my good friends at Ms Valerie Park Distro who have been chroniciling the burgeoning scene via their Well, I Don't See Why Not series of compilations. The latest, the third in the series, features artists that are minor stars in New Zealand, Polka [...]

Allow me some more self-indulgence because tomorrow Well, I Don't See Why Not Volume Two comes out, a compilation I put together with 21 of my favorite artists from around the pacific northwest/west coast. A lot of people who i've blogged about here and a lot more that I probably should have. I'm pretty excited, so I thought I'd post a couple songs from it. Hope you enjoy. Twin Sister and Twig Palace are right next to each other in my itunes, so perhaps it's only natural that I should write about them back to back. I guess I'm on a kick of chilled-out tunes featuring female vocalists, maybe it's the changing seasons. Twig Palace, besides having a lovely name features one of the ladies from Polka Dot Dot Dot , who has one of the loveliest voices I've heard in a while. Beautiful in their simplicity, their songs linger behind your consciousness and [...]

While just beginning, Anonymous Monk Records already produces some of the most beautiful albums around. Started by Ben Kamen, the small music/graphic arts collective has put out a handful of releases that have all been fantastic. Both Ben and Eleanor Murray (a beyond fantastic folk songstress), have released great solo albums on it, but their most impressive release to date is a Spring to Spring wall calendar that has an accompanying compilation cd, with artists doing a song for each month of the year. Paleo, Karl Blau, and members of LAKE are some of the bigger names on [...]

[MP3] Twig Palace - December [MP3] Twig Palace - Up All Night

Anonymous Monk is a small but growing collective of musicians based out of Washington and led by musician Ben Kamen. Earlier this year they gave us For Cedar by Eleanor Murray and now they've gone and done something else amazing: the first, to my knowledge, compilation calendar, featuring one song per month. The compilation is titled Spring Calendar & Compilation 2009-2010 and includes a collective of month-related titles, like "March" and "April" and "Month #93. Included in a thin, beautifully artistic sleeve and wrapped [...]

mp3: karl blau - arco iris arledadore de la luna mp3: twig palace - december anonymous monk has just put out a 2009-2010 spring calendar and compilation and as far as calendars go it looks like a pretty cool one... it's a simple but beautifully designed poster-sized thing and it looks like it tracks lunar and solar phases too, which is kind of neat. as cool as it is, most people probably have little use for a good, old-fashioned calendar these days... so the compilation is likely the greater draw, for which [...]
