We spent a large portion of the Wednesday hanging out with our buddies over at The Studio at Webster Hall . We had some great bands on hand to keep us company. We teamed up with Rachael Rays' Feedback and the folks over at Amnesty International to put on two showcases, one during the day and one in the afternoon. The daytime showcase consisted of performances by Orenda Fink , Good Old War , Look Mexico , The Uglysuit , and Shayna Zaid [...]
Twin Atlantic is a rock quartet hailing from Glasgow, Scotland. The band is composed of Sam McTrusty (vocals, guitar), Barry McKenna (guitar, cello, backing vocals), Ross McNae (bass, piano, backing vocals) and Craig Kneale (drums). I saw the band at Cake Shop during CMJ last Saturday and really liked their music. They reminded me a [...]

Holly Miranda / photo by Sebastian Mlynarski I wasn't at New York City's CMJ 2009, but luckily the Internet was – and, thank God, they have Twitter. With the cool kids' Tweeted recommendations in mind, I've subjected myself to a CMJ marathon right here in sunny Los Angeles via MySpace and Mediafire to bring you the best of the festival – the bands that, in the parlance of our time, were killing it . Holly Miranda – Likely the least lo-fi of CMJ's acts, Miranda [...]
Twin Atlantic will release the latest track from their 'Vivarium' mini-album on 30 November, in the form of 'What Is Light? Where Is Laughter?' The band head to Europe next, with The Fall Of Troy, with a few UK dates at the tail-end of the tour serving as the next opportunity to catch the young Scots: NOV [...]

So okay, that title is somewhat misleading as the hook-laden sounds of Twin Atlantic aren't the exact match of their more renowned countrymen.........yet the soaring melodies, shimmering guitar sounds, and ever-so-slightly-nasally-Ameri canised vocals do afford them a striking similarity to the mighty Biffy Clyro . They Say: The seeds of Twin Atlantic were sown when front man Sam McTrusty and bassist Ross McNae met at school, united by a love of music. Guitarist and cellist Barry McKenna came on board after driving the fledgling band around Scotland to tiny pub gigs. The final piece of the puzzle came in the shape of drummer Craig Kneale, who had been in an earlier band with Ross. Since those early days, they have evolved into one of the UK's most exciting new rock bands, poppy melodies twisted with a [...]

My obsession with this thing called music started at university. Up until that point my cassette collection had contained an unhealthy number of works by European dance legends 2 Unlimited and Maxx . Then came Freshers' Week and my first introduction to live music. It was loud, it was beautiful, it was B*Witched . All four of them were miming but oddly that didn't seem to offend me as my feet danced the most perfect Irish jig in unison with these goddesses off the telly. Surely, but slowly, my music tastes evolved [...]

It's no secret after one listen to the voice of Sam McTrusty, Twin Atlantic's frontman, that these guys are from Scotland. McTrusty's vocals are practically buried by an assault of electric guitars on the band's soaring melodic alt-rock track "Lightspeed." The track is off Twin Atlantic's mini-album, "Vivarium," which is now available. Take a listen to Twin Atlantic's "Lightspeed" with a free download!
Wannabe Americans are put through the feisty folk flavoured rock grinder. This Sam McTrusty led Glaswegian quartet, captures the cynical bemusement and relaxed, yet scything vocal skip of Malcolm Middleton and the catchy rock leanings of The Hold Steady. This song, taken from forthcoming mini-album 'Lightspeed', whilst being accessible could improve in the piercing poignancy [...]

Imagine a Scottish music festival where your don't have to pay extra to park your car or pitch your tent; where you can come and go as you please from the festival site; where children under 12 can get in for nothing; where stage times are distributed free of charge at the event; where there are designated "quiet zone" camping areas. Imagine no more - this is the BELLADRUM / TARTAN HEART FESTIVAL . So good they named it twice. Location: Beauly, Inverness-shire. [...]

I'm sure everyone has had the miserable experience of getting a song stuck in their head. It happens to me all the time. This morning, however, I had the extra-special treat of having two songs stuck at the same time. I woke up and stumbled into the shower with a mashup of Eiffel 65's I'm Blue and Three Doors Down's Let Me Be Myself (damn you Geico) on repeat in my cranium. What a way to start Friday! Anyway, thanks to a listen of this week's mixtape, my horrible affliction has been cured. I hope it [...]

In anticipation of the new album Vivarium , Twin Atlantic gives away sampler track "Lightspeed" as a preview for fans. The song has been floating around for at least a few weeks now and after listening to it nearly 100 times, I thought it only appropriate [...]
