We wrap up our 26-song set with covers of Comfortably Numb, Hey You, and the rest.

State Social #4 takes place this Wednesday and the night will see Twinkranes take command of the decks for what is sure to be one of the more interesting DJ sets we've hosted so far. The past 12 months have been great for the band, which saw the release of their debut album Spektrum Theatre Snakes on the Twisted Nerve label to rave reviews. Early on a Monday morning they braved a list of pre-Social questions... What are you expecting from the State Social? The croop. What [...]

All this week, we're having guest posts from various people involved in different strands of Irish music - record shop owners, writers, bloggers, promoters, radio presenters, bands and more, telling us what Irish bands or artists they are really into right now. Skinny Wolves are a Dublin-based record label who you should know about. They've released records from Telepathe, Effie Brest, Cap Pas Cap, Indian Jewelry and have been ahead of the curve with their selection of touring bands from Xiu Xiu to Gang Gang Dance to Ariel Pink to Grouper. [...]

Things have been so crazy this way that I accidentally ended up with a posting break. What to do then? Make a Welcome Back mix, obviously! Here are some favorite tunes culled from various corners of the interwebs over the past couple days: MP3: Nakatomi Towers - Cut Me Out MP3: The Sunshine Underground - In Your Arms MP3: TwinKranes - Fizz Nor Feedback MP3: [...]

Our Faces of 2010 mixtape will get you acquainted with the best new Irish talent out there right now. Click the artist name to see our blurb on them or click to the song title to listen. A link to the mixtape of all 20 songs is below. State's Faces of 2010 Tracklisting [...]
State meets Anto and Ray from Twinkranes in the library bar of Dublin's Central Hotel. It's an old-fashioned, carpety sort of place, full of high-backed chairs, table lamps, and bookcases. It somehow doesn't feel like the most appropriate place to meet members of a band who describe themselves as a "psychedelic power trio specialising in zone-out progressive popmusik." We should be meeting these lads in the basement of a disused tinned meat factory in East Berlin or something. At least there's no difficulty in picking them out from the tourists and suits who have braved [...]
It's the start of another year and won't you believe, it also marks a year of the Friday's lists. I started out my first ever list with New Year's songs which I think is still the best list of indie songs about the New Year out there ;) I really didn't think I could go on this long though - not with my Friday's list being bumped to Saturday, or Sunday even. I should've scratched doing it every week, since I never really did it on time - but then for some weird reason I just kept on [...]
Photo by Rich Gilligan . Below you will find the fourth annual countdown of the top 30 Irish albums as voted by readers and commenters of this blog. There are some surprises in there to me. The number one album on the list actually won by a fair few votes. In a year where there was no clear favourite, it's interesting to see such an album top the list. A few of the albums charted quite highly considering they were only released in the last month or so. Anyway, I hope you discover [...]

It's been another great year for Irish music in my estimation. Releases from ASIWYFA, David Kitt, BATS, Julie Feeney, Valerie Francis, SEBP, Twinkranes, Patrick Kelleher, The Holy Roman Army, Channel One, Mail Order Messiahs, Hunter-Gatherer, Legion Of Two and Adrian Crowley have all been keeping my stereo warm. What about you though? For the 4th year in a row, the Nialler9 Irish album poll is back. As with last year I'm also asking for your favourite songs. Get some inspiration . There will be prizes this year, chosen at random for people who enter [...]
Anyone who's ever laid eyes on Dublin krautrock three-piece will not be surprised to hear that this debut LP is a strange proposition. Drummer Anto, axeman Rooster and organist Ray look like they were stolen from the set of Fraggle Rock one night. A highlight at this year's DEAF festival, as well as a feature on the city circuit for a few years, Twinkranes' live credentials are particularly strong. Not content with just turning up and plugging in, the group have a reputation for bewitching visuals that often transform their shows into deafening psychedelic sermons that jar the senses. [...]
Twinkranes are a busy lot this October. First up is the second installment in their new monthly club night The Spektrum Theatre which takes place in Toners Pub on Baggot Street, Dublin on 9th October. It promises live performances from the band, cult films and guest DJs spinning everything from pop to prog-rock to psychedelia. Guest DJs on the 9th are Skinny Wolves . The band have also just released a limited edition 73 single entitled "Fizz Nor Feedback" and we've got an MP3 version of it to share here. The song proves Twinkranes are the finest [...]

Forming in 2004 the trio of Twinkranes (aka T. Krane , The Rooster and Dr. Raymond Crane ) spent its first two years together establishing the band's musical focus and creating a number of visual pieces which would later accompany the group's live performances in the form of an electronic slide show. After playing a list of scattered dates across both America and Europe the band recently released its "Being Kong" single which sounds much like a whispered commentary on updated post-punk logistics. The track's guitar brings about indie delusions of what [...]
