Twins of a Gazelle managed to come across my listening peripheral today with the new single 'Constellations'. Just like my prior post on Empyr, I know very little about the group. That doesn't stop me from sharing this song with you. Do we always need to know everything about the artist? Or sometimes is it better to have them be a bit of a mystery? The little I do know is that Twins of a Gazelle are from D.C. and are a roving group of 25 musicians where half of them are classically trained. Aside from a [...]
A number of free tracks for you after a while! Manzanita y su Conjunto - Agua RocketNumberNine - You Reflect Me Twins of a Gazelle - Constellations Dumbo Gets Mad - Eclectic Prawn

Over the last two or three weeks we've probably received more tracks to MM than ever before. Not that we're complaining, especially when the quality has been really high. It does mean we're struggling to do everything justice though and while (in a perfect MM world) many of these tracks deserve their own post, we've decided to round up a bunch in one go for you. So take a chance, and download something new. First up are raucous lo-fi electro punk four-piece, What Would Jesus Drive and their new EP [...]

This year has been a great year for music thus far, and I believe the monthly mixtapes here at Musical Pairings have been a testament to that. Each one has been jam packed with great new discoveries and the August mix is no exception. This one offers a little something for everyone: lo-fi garage rock, psychedelic folk-pop, electronica, hip hop, experimental hip hop, 902s rap, synth pop, electro pop, and some good old-fashioned orchestral "indie" rock. I'd expect you'll recognize some familiar faces (Arcade Fire, Big Boi, Best Coast, and Dr. Dre, for example), but you should pay extra special [...]

The strangest of birds delivered news of Twins of a Gazelle , a Washington, DC (!!!) band to me a few weeks back. The email was cryptic and fantastical, curiosity got the best of me, and I'm grateful it did. A slightly dark pop song, it is sure to lure you in upon first listen. Unfortunately there is not that much information to be found about these guys, they are seemingly existing in a vortex. I hope they emerge soon, but for now you can download the full quality version of "Constellations" for FREE from [...]

Washington D.C.'s Twins of a Gazelle was one of those rare awesome surprises that I occasionally discover in my inbox (thanks to the fine folks at Life Under Radar). Originally founded by Dave Mann and Emily Chimiak, Twins of a Gazelle has quickly evolved into a full-fledged "indie rock orchestra" incorporating 20+ members. As the bands first "official" single, "Constellations" is breathtakingly ambitious. It starts off innocently enough with a rubbery, subdued bassline alongside light, whispery vocals with quietly crashing percussion splintering in the background. But the melody unfolds slowly with the inclusion first of a keyboard, then [...]
