Via / Procure the 2011 reissue of Then Fell the Ashes...

Speaking of his solo project TwinSisterMoon , Natural Snow Buildings ' Mehdi Ameziane admits that his songs are "captured on a one take/good take basis; almost unfinished in a sense, like a sketch." "Trailer," a track from his recently reissued Then Fell The Ashes... album, feels more like a wholly vivid snapshot of an incomplete memory- one of being rocked to sleep with a lullabye cassette in the tape decks, for instance, or simply of a time when your soul felt 100% insulated from even the slightest twinge of existential doubt. Next to album's mile-long vistas of gristled ambience, this [...]

[MP3] TwinSisterMoon - Sun Snaring [MP3] TwinSisterMoon - Walhalla

This song is taken from the new 7" from Mehdi Ameziane , aka twinsistermoon , one half of the duo Natural Snow Buildings . You could've probably convinced me that this hushed, haunting folk ballad was an old Vashti Bunyan demo from the late '60s, if Mehdi wasn't actually French, and a dude: mp3: twinsistermoon :: bride of the spirts Twinsistermoon's Bride of the Spirits 7" is out now Dull Knife Records ; sold out.

I'm not sure how many of you have been reading this page for a while, but some of you may remember last summer's "The Great Chili Cook-off That Never Was" . 368 days ago, I tried to attend the Beverly Hills Farmer's Market Chili Cook-off. I showed up too late, and lamented my misfortunate for longer than I should have considering I didn't have a job or anything to do that day anyway. Nevertheless, when I saw this past week that somebody had Google'd "Beverly Hills Farmers Market Chili Cook-off", I got to thinking that maybe it was an [...]

Photo: Cover art from self titled Jack Rose LP. Jack Rose, (lap steel) guitarist and master of blues and folk, is always likely to receive plenty of airplay at my place around this time of the year. His fingerpicking and slide instrumentals being the perfect accompaniment for these early summer days. On his latest album Dr Ragtime & Pals he finds himself accompanied by fellow musicians Glenn Jones, Micah Blue Smaldone (also featured on this playlist with a solo track), Mike Gangloff, Sean Bowles and Harmonica Dan. Their addition of harmonica, banjo and washboard add [...]

Photo credit: Joanna Branson With her debut full-length Faces in the Rocks Nevada City songwriter Mariee Sioux has recorded one of this year's most breathtaking and haunting albums. I was lucky enough to witness her spine-chilling performance on a beautiful afternoon in Amsterdam several weeks ago. That afternoon her songs seemed enriched with spiritual tales and Native American imagery. Her songs worked very well with just Mariee Sioux on guitar (see video below). What struck me the most that day was that these songs that sounded so sweet and light-hearted on cd, [...]

Last night was so embarrassing I won't even describe how I spent it. Sure, I left the apartment at five in the afternoon and didn't return until after 4am, but the hours in between were so utterly unremarkable I feel it could actually damage my reputation if I recounted the details for you. I awoke to my phone ringing at noon. There were television characters making cameos in my dreams this morning. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or [...]

Photo credit: Michael Phelps With this list we come to the end of this series. A series that travelled from the heavy artillery of psychedelic freak-outs all the way to the serene bliss of dark and tranquil drones and ambient. This final 60+ minute playlist is like reaching our final destination in space. A peaceful place that glows with ecstasy and breathes an almost religious serene ambience. This couldn't have been better portrayed than by Rhys Chatham's incredible "A Crimson Grail". A highly emotional recording which was made in the Sacre Coeur [...]
