A couple of days ago, Impressionable Youth and I got free passes to see a screening of the movie "Juno" at the Cumberland theatre. It was a cute movie, with the same kind of quirky awkwardness as the Royal Tenenbaums etc. It was about a sixteen year old girl played by Ellen Page who gets pregant and decides to give the baby up for adoption to a yuppie couple played by Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman, who plays Michael in "Arrested Development." We got t-shirts at the end of the film of a comic book in the movie staring Yuki, [...]

I feel like I havn`t even had 2 minutes to think lately....First Guitar Hero 3 entered our house and totally consumed both my mind and time.....then we had a Cat come and stay with us for a night....Long story, we basically babysat it....until it shit all over the place...I also managed to make it out to see Two Hours Traffic and Joel Plaskett on Sunday and Monday night....oh and to top it all off my site was shut down...Make sure you get the new track from These New Puritans...I`m really looking forward to the [...]
With the end of the year approaching, it's time once again for the 2007 edition of the Hottest Bands in Canada survey. And in the end, it was close. Even with over 30 panelists and 150 bands receiving votes, it was close. And I'm talking insanely, nail-bitingly, one-point-separating-#1-from-# 2, "it could've gone either way if one person had even reversed the order in their ballot" close, with the difference being a ballot submitted about 30 seconds before I went to hit "Publish". But [...]
The second half of our night was spent at the Attic, just in time to watch people freak the fuck out over The Dudes and herohill favs, Two Hours Traffic. Seriously. The Dudes sing about not being able to get it up when their girl talks to them and still, people were screaming like the Beatles hit Shea. As I mentioned in the Arts & Crafts post, our intent was to hit The Attic in time to catch Two Hours Traffic's set. Ack interviewed the guys a month or so ago in Vancity, so we thought [...]

Last week, I featured music from Filter. This week, I'm focusing on my favorite Canadian PR firm, Killbeat. You can thank them for many of the Why The F*ck Is No One In America Blogging About series. Besides giving me (and you all) some of the greatest Americana music from The Great White North, Jesse from Killbeat has your indie rock, your female pastoral folk-pop and your power-electro-pop bases covered. The bases are covered so well in fact, that Killbeat is giving away a grab [...]

Last night I sat down at the Plaza and cringed. Seriously. I'm old, I know that, but the 99.3 crowd of Fedoras and power drinking coupled with the rock star antics from a band I wasn't into - Whitfield - was almost too much. I wondered how one of Canada's most promising pop acts could end up here, but then I remembered the guys in Two Hours Traffic are barely old enough to rent a van. These are the types of shows you are supposed to play when you head [...]
You don't have to wait in a long line of bumper to bumper gridlock to get your hands on a scorching hot copy of Little Jabs , the latest album by PEI's Two Hours Traffic . All you have to do is email your mailing details to quickbeforeitmelts{at}gmail{do t}com and a hermetically sealed copy could be yours for the having. Simply state "Stick me in Two Hours Traffic!" in your subject line to get my attention. Two Hours Traffic "Stuck For The Summer" Contest will close [...]
Some more acts were just announced for the 15th annual Halifax Pop Explosion. So far, this festival is shaping up to be ridiculous, especially when you see new acts like Land of Talk , Most Serene Republic and Two Hours Traffic added to the mix. Here's the complete list of additions: Barmitzvah Brothers Buried Inside The Dudes :: Check them out on tour with Hot Hot Heat The Germans The Got to Get [...]
When you live on an island that until recently was only accessible by ferry, you'd probably not know much about the tedium of gridlock. And yet, Prince Edward Island's Two Hours Traffic have been releasing albums chock full of super jams loaded with bumper to bumper pop goodness. Joel Plaskett produced their latest, Little Jabs , and the boys of Two Hours Traffic are taking their wares on the road, stopping in my neck of the woods--Hamilton, Ontario--to host a CD release party at the Casbah with the Spades and Marble [...]
The fact that I posted about a single song ("Heroes of the Sidewalk") from their newest album, Little Jabs (released July 24th), two weeks ago doesn't do justice to the fact that I've been listening to this band over and over and over and over and over and over...well, you get the idea. I'm addicted! It's the Canadian conspiracy all over again (which is, of course, to make amazing music and overwhelm our American ears). Two Hours Traffic - Stuck for the Summer [ alt link ] [download [...]
Two Hours Traffic - Heroes of the Sidewalk I've felt out of place all summer, my roots torn out from underneath me, wandering aimlessly through city after city, town after town. I'd been staying with some friends in Maryland these past few days, and today I packed up my suitcase and went to Arlington. The moment I came up the escalator at Clarendon I couldn't help but smile, this was home . Or as close as it gets. I've been listening to "Heroes of the Sidewalk" and the song felt achingly familiar, like it was [...]
You know when you find that one thing in your life and it just works like a great song, and you never want to let it go. Well this song is very much like that good thing, although "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" reminds me of the good (some may even say great) thing this song is slowly becoming a close second. Two Hours Traffic hail from the hideous campus of Prince Edward Island University** yet somehow manage to make beautiful music. Two Hours Traffic - Jezebel [...]

I think this is the first time I've written about a band from Prince Edward Island on my blog. What took me so long? Two Hours Traffic began in 2003 when four PEI Chemistry students got together and started writing music. After releasing an intial EP ( The April Storm ), Joel Plaskett noticed and offered to produce the groups first full-length album. Tons of play on CBC, tv placements in The (late) O.C. and succesful touring with Wintersleep and Cuff The Duke all worked together to bring this [...]

This guy`s tattoo made me chuckle!......Very original The mailbox was also kind yesterday ....when I looked inside I saw a copy of the new Two Hours Traffic album Little Jabs . Man this album is really good too...and I`m not just saying that cause the record company gave me a promo copy. I`m really enjoying the single " Stuck for the Summer "....its just too bad I can`t share more with ya.....actually I take that back...buy a copy when it comes out....CN [...]

If I were a lazy man, this review would be very easy. I would just take my recent post proclaiming Two Hours Traffics' Stuck For The Summer as my song of the summer, I would then multiply that by 10 and make Little Jabs my album of the summer. But of course that would be too easy, and it would deprive you of the herohill-scented banter you crave, so of course we'll give it the full review treatment. That said, this is indeed my album of the summer, but it may also turn out [...]
Yasss, yasss, I know, staggeringly creative, but thanks for saying so. God, I hate writing these blurbs, but here goes anyway. Sorry, that was graceless; let's try again. I was danged happy today to hear from several very talented folks, the fruits of whose excellent labors I am posting below. You've perhaps noticed I've got a thing going for New Yorkers The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (and I
It's Friday and the sun is finally shining here on the east coast, so it seems feasible that we might actually see some summer out here in Halifax. So I thought I'd celebrate summer's impending arrival with a post on my favorite summer song by a band comprised of former chemistry students that hail from PEI, but now live in Toronto. The band of course is Two Hours Traffic , and the song is Stuck For The Summer . In my review for the band's excellent EP, Isolator, I described Stuck For The Summer thusly: [...]
