A band we should love for the murkyness they bring to the dreampop realm. Unfortunately it hasn't always been a 2 sided romance but things appear to have taken a turn for the better with new release 'Staysail' (on 7-inch before you wonder). 'Apron of Flowers' is the promo tune and proves to be a prime candidate for Sarah Records new compilation were such a thing ever to happen. Funny too that the duo come from London (Ontario, that is), surely the original hub of lo-fi skirmishes and DIY indie aesthetics. Of course they could just as well be Scandinavian. [...]

Like the Clientele's early, more whispery work, Two If By Sea's "Apron of Flowers" jangles under a London fog - though the band hails from London, Ontario. The song's not much more than a handful of chords and featherweight percussion, but its loveliness belies any considerations of heft. The same is true for compilation single "Westbound Train," which adds a Yo La Tengo synthesizer and ironic dance groove to the mix to charming, reverb-swaddled effect. Connecticut-based label February Records is off to a swift clip for 2011 in releasing both a retrospective 2010 compilation, titled One Year Of Original Music, and downright lovely new offering from today's featured artist. Two If By Sea is the music project of London, Ontario musician Teresa Daniele who enlists the long-distance accompaniment of Chicago multi-instrumentalist Lisle Mitnik (
Two If By Sea - Pale As White LISTEN, my children, and you shall hear Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five; Hardly a man is now alive Who remembers that famous day and year. He said to his friend, "If the British march By land or sea from the town to-night, Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch Of the North Church tower, as a signal light, -- One, if by [...]
Teresa and Lisle! Two If By Sea! Two If By Sea are, in a word, heavenly. As a band, they are Teresa (The Haircuts, Junebug) and Lisle (Fireflies), who are such a perfect musical match that I can't believe it didn't happen sooner. Their music is – like I said before – heavenly. Their list of influences pretty much much nails their sound perfectly; The Cat's Miaow, The Field Mice, and The Clientele, just to name a few. At the moment I'm completely in love with "Pale As White," with it's beautiful reverbed [...]

Sadly, Baltimore's Two if by Sea is no more. That said, they did give us 7 years and in the indie music world, that is a lifetime. Before they give their final bow at Baltimore's Ottobar on August 31, they have decided to revisit the past. In honor of our Anniversary and their farewell, David sent over a true relic. This is a cover they recorded of Joy Division's "Transmission," back when they were still finding their voice as a band. In David's own words: "This was pretty early for us. It [...]
Our first Buttermore mixtape featured almost twenty top draw artists from Bmore proper including Dan Deacon, Small Sur, The Death Set, Videohippos, Beach House, Ponytail, Double Dagger, OCDJ...you get the picture, it was tighter than Red Foxx n ripple - but we didn't even scratch the surface son! So here's round two. Instead of spoiling you with 18 tracks we're taking a closer look at six Bmore bangers in the hopes you find a new favorite and catch some of these cats on the road (and we've already got plenty for a third pop). [...]

From Brighton, UK, British Sea Power , who have earned comparisons to Joy Division, invade the area this week. The are known to have wild stage shows. Joining them on tour is Stardeath and White Dwarfs , from Oklahoma. They are led by Dennis Coyne. Name sound familiar? You may have heard of his more famous uncle, Wayne, and there is a definite Flaming Lips influence. Our pals from Baltimore, Two if By Sea , join them for the DC show. They will be going hiatus for the rest of [...]

Let's keep this simple. To me, this site has always been about supporting the local music scene. So I decided, that there is no better way to celebrate our first anniversary, than to make a mix of local music from the past year. I had so much fun, that I ended up making two discs. Some of these bands have come a long way in the last 12 months, some didn't even exist when we started and others are no more. That said, every song is from a band that claims (or claimed) the Baltimore/Washington metro area as [...]
This week's mix features many relatively unknown bands along with some new music from bands you should know already. I have also tried to keep with the tradition of including two songs from local artists. Architecture In Helsinki - Fumble Kinetic Stereokids - Explosions Were Heard Two If By Sea - Report From Damage Control Phoenix - Long Distance Call Broken Social Scene - Fire [...]

After a hazy, hot, humid and stormy week, the skies are set to clear up and the weekend forecast is gorgeous. Celebrate with a great Friday night out. Baltimore has it going on tonight. Start out early with the continuation of the free Friday concert series at Walter's Art Museum . Tonight they have one of their best shows yet. Local favorites Two if by Sea will be taking the stage and apparently there is a visual accompaniment. Two if by Sea - High [...]

For those of you who will be in DC this weekend, Six Points put together a sick show for IOTA tonight. Local indie pop darlings Middle Distance Runner will be joined by local indie alt country darlings These United States to create a ridiculously good bill that also includes Pittsburgh's Black Tie Revue . Ian from MDR was a founding member of BTR, so that should make for a very interesting addition to an already stellar night. Middle Distance Runner - Man Of The People [...]

Two if by Sea is a band from Baltimore, MD. They have been regulars on IA, but with good reason. Safety was one of the best cds released this year. They took all of the elements from their debut, stripped them down and added strings. It really worked. They are also known for tearing it up with their high energy live sets. This was a good year for the band. They took some time to reflect upon it and share some insight on how they will top it in 2007. [...]
Intellectuals, particularly academic intellectuals, tend to favor socialism and interventionism. How was the American university transformed from a center of higher learning to an outpost for socialist-inspired culture and politics? As recently as the early 1950s, the typical American university professor held social and political views quite similar to those of the general population. Today â€" well, you've all heard the jokes that circulated after the collapse of central planning in Eastern Europe and the former USSR, how the only place in the world where Marxists [...]
