So Cali garage rock hero, Ty Segall , got a group of his talented friends together, and formed the Ty Segall Band. You can hear the first effort, “Wave Goodbye” below. If this doesn’t burn you down in all the right spots, I don’t know what will. Massive guitars, distorted vocals, and a a hearty “live” sound. Another words, a perferct song to gather your buds and jam too. The record, Slaughterhouse , will be out June 11th.
Concise psych collaboration brings out the best in these two Bay Area pals. As Ty Segall and Tim Presley of White Fence (amongst others, including Strange Boys and Darker My Love) release more and more music, inching closer and closer towards being labeled as full-on workaholics, a strange paradox has begun to emerge within their music evidenced on Hair, their recent collaboration LP: Segall and Presley are becoming more focused. When word of these two San Francisco pals teaming up to release a psych-heavy full-length hit the blogs,...

Psych rocker Ty Segall recently announced the formation of the Ty Segall Band and their plans to release an LP titled Slaughterhouse this coming June. The 11-track album will see Segall teaming up with Mikal Cronin, Charlie Moothart, and Emily Rose Epstein, and now, the first taste of their creative efforts can be heard. The first single from the forthcoming album is titled "Wave Goodbye," and simply put it's a cacophony of pyschedic sounds. Fuzzy guitars wail amongst pounding percussion one second, only to be followed by quiter moments where the distorted vocals [...]

Our first taste of Slaughterhouse .

Ty Segall Band , comprised of Ty Segall, Mikal Cronin, Charlie Moothart, and Emily Rose Epstein, released the first song from their just announced new album, Slaughterhouse . The album is the first released by Segall with his touring band and, if the first single is any indication, is as in your face as anything Segall has done previously. You can grab Wave Goodbye below and make sure to turn the volume all the way up. Slaughterhouse is out June [...]

In The Red is over the moon and happy as a pig in shit to announce the debut release by the Ty Segall Band . The Ty Segall Band is Ty Segall (obviously), Mikal Cronin, Charlie Moothart, and Emily Rose Epstein. While Ty has released many incredible solo releases, Slaughterhouse marks the first release where he has recorded with his touring band. For this mini-album (it's only 103 but you get two!), the band recorded with Chris Woodhouse at The Hangar, turned their amps all the way up, set [...]

Shimby Presents: Live at the Empty Bottle works as more than just a live album. Recorded by local musician and music archivist Shimby McCreery , it's an audial snapshot of tweener Chicago, which has taken stock in thrashy garage rock that sometimes is played with a metallic fierceness and others a near quirky looseness. But perhaps more importantly, the record seamless integrates local favorites with popular indie buzz acts proving that Chicago knows what's up. Near the record's mid-section, the [...]

The Ty Segall band, which features Ty Segall Mikal Cronin, Charlie Moothart, and Emily Rose Epstein, are set to release their debut album, Slaughterhouse , this June. You might be wondering what else Ty Segall has to give considering how active he's been this year, but when the guitars kick in on 'Wave Goodbye' we'e suddenly reminded of his talent for being able to put out 'old sounding' material that sounds fresh. A gift that not many people have. Listen to the incredible song below, and keep June 25th free in your diary, because that's [...]

Just last week Ty Segall Band announced their forthcoming debut record Slaughterhouse . We were promised that this release, the first that Ty Segall has recorded with his touring band, would be heavier and fuzzier than anything that Segall has put out to date, and this advance single "Wave Goodbye" certainly lives up to that promise. Check out the track below, as well as our review of his collaboration with White Fence, which hit shelves on Tuesday. Slaughterhouse comes out June 26th on In The Red Records
Ty Segall and Timothy "White Fence" Presley combine their psych rock wonder powers for Hair . We're back after taking a week off for a little R&R in Mexico last week (sorry Spiritualized and Moonface... we'll get you next time). This week is marked by a lot of classic guitar-based rock influences. Ty Segall and White Fence hole up in a garage for 30 minutes of psych rock fun, while Jack White puts all his appreciation of rock history into his debut solo release. Elsewhere, White's Raconteur partner Brendan Benson returns with an [...]

Ty Segall & White Fence Hair Label: Drag City Release Date: April 24th, 2012 When music historians look back on this current 60s lo-fi psychedelic revival, Ty Segall’s Melted and White Fence’s Is Growing Faith will be mentioned as important releases that defined the sound. You can imagine then the excitement behind the announcement that in 2012 White Fence would release a double album, Segall two records, and an eight-track collaboration between Segall and [...]
We've got another full week of shows, and this one is chock full of some truly interesting and experimental music. Open your mind and your ears and go out this week! Thursday, April 26th Trippple Nippples, Ass Baboons Of Venus, Harriott with Sophia Mabeltini at Thee Parkside Not only do they have the single best [...]
It’s amazing to me that more outlets haven’t posted with incredulity about the combined output Ty Segall and White Fence have planned for 2012. Between the two of them, five full-length albums will be released across a time period of less than twelve months. Five albums. It would be reasonable to think that such ambitious plans might result in undercooked albums, but the first effort in this series, White Fence’s Family Perfume Vol. 1 , proved to be just as interesting as his previously released albums given the benefit of a more typical album release cycle. So here we [...]

San Franciscan psych (Ty Segall) meets LA psych (Tim Presley, aka White Fence) for a classy garage-psych album. There are no introspective tales about buying sofas with your girlfriend as on Ty’s last waxing; this time their collective love of 60s and 70s music blasts forth, with Segall’s pop notes complemented by Presley’s grungier approach. ‘Time’ is a Bolanesque glam racket while ‘Crybaby’ is glammed-up primitivo rock’n’roll par excellence complete with Mikal Cronin’s pounding piano. ‘I Am Not A Game’ has an incredible psych-pop organ riff and some punky, garagey guitar (Segall played drums and rhythm [...]

A few of my favorite new releases this week, including the latest from Toro y Moi and the solo debut from the one and only Jack White. As always, be sure to check out Largehearted Boy and KEXP for a whole lot more. Bad Veins// The Mess We've Made ♩ Dancing On TV [...]
Hopefully your haul from Record Store Day is enough to keep your ears abuzz with new music for the coming weeks. If you’re like me, though, and weren't successful at grabbing all the limited edition 7-inches on your list, there are plenty of releases today to keep you busy and satisfied. Pretty much everyone, regardless of gender, has a crush on Jack White (@thirdmanrecords). Undoubtedly a future rock and roll hall of famer, it’s hard to believe that Blunderbuss is [...]
