So...I suppose I'm a tad bit late to the year-end-best-of-lists party but oh well. Josh already offered up his favorite tracks in the year-end best-of playlist and, while our lists have a lot of crossover, I thought I'd offer up my favorite 50 tracks from the past year. I've struggled with the idea of trying to put a 'best-of' stamp on anything I listen to based solely on the fact that I'm not all that comfortable with the idea of ranking all the tracks I love. This is more a representation of all my favorite tracks from [...]
The time has come for me to regurgitate an entire years worth of music on to the digital table so you can pick through the mess and see what I liked and possibly find something you missed or something you agree with or something you've never heard of and suddenly like. As usual there are [...]

With only two weeks remaining in 2011, it's that time of the year where all the music sites and publications dole out their annual 'Best Of' lists. Likewise, Bears and Bullets has stuck with that tradition as well, with an annual 'Top 25 Songs of the Year' list. But with the addition of the Albums of the Month feature on the site this year, I thought it wouldn't be fair to just stick with songs from here on out. So, I present to you Bears and Bullets first [...]

Let me start by saying nothing in 2011 has come close to the affection I still have for my two favorite records of 2010: The Walkmen's masterful Lisbon and Blake Mills' so-good-why-the-fuck-haven't-y ou-listened-to-it-yet Break Mirrors . But that's not to say 2011 hasn't been a great year in music. In fact, I don't think I've ever discovered so many favorite new bands (Natural Child, Stone Darling, Breakfast In Fur, Marisa Anderson, Mikal Cronin, Bare Wires, Future Islands, Braids, etc.) in a single year. The internet has created so many minute niches catered by small communities, micro DIY labels, [...]

(photo by cubagallery ) These are 50 tracks that defined 2011 for us, presented in highly unscientific ordered list form, with Matt's songs marked with a "-MG" and my choices with a "-TJ" next to them. To better spread the love, there's only one song per artist. Click the links next to the track to download / listen to the song and go to our Spotify Playlist to hear them all. Enjoy y'all! 50. Austra - Beat and the Pulse MP3 [...]

The most wonderful time of the year, right guys? 'Twas the end of December, and all through the blogosphere, not a creature was stirring, except for the sounds of music writers springin' chub, strokin' egos, and Bon Iverin' via the storied tradition of the "best of" list. Well, The Decibel Tolls participates in that jive as well, save for the latter. Be it as it may. So yeah, man... 2011... shit. 2011 was a turbulent and gnarly year, and as such, we've been treated to some truly stellar music. Funny how that works - civic and economic tension [...]

Now we are getting into the meat and potatoes of this list. I can honestly say that every song from here down to #1 have been on HEAVY rotation on my iPod over the past 12 months. Let's gooooooo. 40. Those Darlins - Screws Get Loose 39. Blue Skies For Black Hearts - Majoring In The Arts 38. White Denim - Street Joy [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , The Hit List Wonderbread Tapes Cats were the "it" symbol of cool last year, especially in the indie-rock world . Best Coast , Wavves , the Klaxons and more capitalized on the trend, putting cats on album covers, in music videos and, as Lady Gaga did, even wearing a Hello Kitty dress. But as the music world fell in [...]
It's been a banner year for Hardly Art. Seemingly back-to-back-to-back-to-back fantastic albums filled out a year capped of by the Gem Club album Breakers, a truly somber bit of orchestration. To celebrate the festive days cluttering up the calender before the inevitable turn towards 2012, the good folk at Hardly Art sent over a list [...]

Mixtape: Twelve Bay Area Highlights from 2011 (Podcast #263) We might be biased, but, from this vantage point, 2011 reconfirmed that the Bay Area continues to have the most vibrant music community nationwide. The SF scene cranked out a ton of amazing albums this year, and our final podcast of 2011 highlights twelve great releases from Bay Area artists over the past twelve months. This isn't a "Best of" list per se, but these acts did create some of our favorite music in 2011. We'll be doing more year-in-review coverage over the next few [...]

Contributed by Trevor Meyer If you’re in need of beating a lingering music hangover, Ty Segall’s “My Sunshine” should fix you right up. Ty’s gritty and unfiltered tone is most impressive and it almost sounds like he’s boiling nails somewhere in his vocal pallet. This is my favorite track from Ty, it’s off of his 2010 album, Melted . Ty has also released music in 2011. Below is a nice cover of The Vibrators, “Baby Baby.” [...]

just before the weekend, watch the TY SEGALL trippy new WHERE YOUR HEAD GOES video. wotyougot
Not too long ago we got to see the crisp one shot video for Ty Segall's " Goodbye Bread " which featured a few nipple for good measure. Today we get the tripped out acid laced video for "Where Your Head Goes" and where it goes is into a mixing palette of colours and images that may or may not be induced by the taking of hallucinogens. Either way, you're most likely sober when watching so don't worry just look at the pretty colours!
A nice psychedelic new video for your weekend from Ty Segall , its got all the right moves to keep you fuzzed out for awhile.
