Ghostly International has a new compilation coming out next week called Horizon Line which is a collection of classics and ten new, forthcoming, and unreleased songs. The tracklist includes these 2 FREE songs from Tycho and Mux Mool which Ghostly is giving away here . This will also be available in a 2xCD format inserted into a DVD-style case in May 2010, so enjoy the digital but the CD will definitely be a nice piece to have. I can't say enough about Spencer Radcliffe, aka Blithe Field, and I can't stop listening to his latest collection of chill pop / dream pop goodness titled Beautiful Wave '74. It reminds me of a much more raw and organic Tycho at times, which says a lot coming from one of Scott Hansen's biggest [...]

We've had the "Random Nostalgia" category on this blog for a while, but I think this is the first time a post has truly fit the bill. I was searching around my hard drive last night and stumbled upon this gem from my past, the photo you see above (sorry for the poor quality, I can't find the original photo I scanned this from). I'm not quite sure, but this is probably from sometime around mid-1999 in Sacramento. This was the firs time I assembled what I would consider a proper studio, although it was just my bedroom (you can [...]

Urban Outfitters is offering a free 25 track download that you can get here . They've compiled a list of "newish" tracks from releases of 2010. UO is known for having one of the better day lineups during SXSW , so keep your eyes peeled for their three day extravaganza. Tycho-Coastal Brake [...]

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came out for the SEMF show in Sacramento last night, you guys were awesome and the energy was great. I always love playing in Sacto and it was nice to see that the electronic scene there is alive and better than ever. Thanks to Adam and everyone from SEMF for putting together three straight days of incredible music; I hope this becomes and annual event. Raoul Ortega ( Jetstreamprojector ) got some great shots and posted them to his Flickr (a couple are posted above). You can view the [...]

Just a reminder that tomorrow (Sat, Jan.30, 2010) I'll be playing at the Sacramento Electronica Festival along with Dusty Brown and many others. I should go on around 12:30am and Dusty will be up right after. We'll be playing some songs together and I'll have all the visuals set up so it should be a fun night. Hope to see you out. The one and only Hazel (a.k.a Bonjour Girl) suggested I check out this song "Viktor, Safe In The Forest" by Josh Bay's Known Moons after we had both confessed our undying love for Tycho. This song is very rich in texture, and I think this group has a lot of potential. I'm looking [...]

I'm very pleased to announce that I'll be playing at this year's Sacramento Electronica Music Festival . I'm shouldn't really be playing shows right now as the album's due date is rapidly approaching, but I can never pass up an opportunity to play a show in my home town. There are lots of great names on the bill including Dusty Brown, who I'll be playing some songs with. All in all it's shaping up to be quite an experience: three days of great music for $10, I'm pretty sure you can't beat that. And if you're from the bay [...]

9.4/10 Tycho is the alias of electronic artist/producer Scott Hansen of San Fransisco, CA. As winter sets in across the already frozen landscape, one can't help but dream of the possibilities of spring, summer and all the things we'd be doing if we weren't forced to stay inside. Tycho's aptly titled Coastal Brake makes it all the more easier to visualize these possibilities by creating deep beats sprinkled with bright guitars and atmospheric keyboards that conjure images of days [...]

Tycho's latest single evokes the tranquil mood that accompanied my recent sunset chase here in Huntington Beach. A few years back my father pointed out that late in the year, and from the vantage point of the H.B. pier, the sun settles into the isthmus of Catalina Island. My father is full of such miscellany. For some reason, this year I had a major itch to witness this minor phenomena. To my surprise, I found no information online, so beginning winter solstice I closely monitored the coast trying to determine the D-day. My efforts did not go unrewarded. The area [...]

Tycho is the music project of San Francisco based artist and producer Scott Hansen. As Tycho, Hansen blends swirling melodies into vaguely triumphant arcs that crisscross between stuttering beats and vocal samples, creating rolling sonic landscapes that extend off into the horizon. Known in the design world as ISO50, Hansen's bucolic, sun-drenched design style serves as a backdrop for the music which so closely echoes his visual sentiments. Tycho currently records for the Ghostly International label and has releases on the Merck and Gammaphone labels. click here to download mp3.

Thanks to everyone who made it out last night, I had an incredible time and the energy was great. I really appreciate you all sticking around until 2:30am on a sunday night, you're probably hating me this morning though, wish I could buy you a coffee. It was great to be able to check out the other bands too, I've been meaning to see all of them live for a while now. Shigeto turned in an amazing performance with his drums with some great backing visuals by Alex Headup , Adam Hunt, and Martin Thoburn. [...]
