Band of Horses guitarist steps out into his own as a uniquely talented singer-songwriter. If you've seen a Band of Horses live show at any point over the past several years, you have surely noticed Tyler Ramsey. Lanky and often bearded, Ramsey unassumingly handles lead guitar duties, subtly adding texture and grace to Ben Bridwell's sprawling, haunted tunes. Tyler Ramsey (@bandofhorses) of Band of Horses played an intimate show at Joe's Pub Monday night. Ramsey's gentle folk picking and beautiful voice radiated a soothing vibe throughout the candlelit venue. Drawing from his 2007 work A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea , Ramsey treated the audience to "A long dream", "Birdwings", and "No One Goes Out". The real treat came at the end of the show, though, when he covered Cyndi Lauper's "All through the night". All in all the artist, the venue and the atmosphere made for a perfect show. [...]

Who’s Tyler Ramsey ? Yes, he’s the guy from Band of Horses and Avett Brothers. His solo album is a gentle collection of intimate numbers on the wonderful label Fat Possum Records. It sounds a little like Band of Horses. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s got that Southern, soaring sound featured in every BOH tune—but without the desperation.
