The Gladeyes- Psychosis of Love 8/10 "The interplay of the band, consisting of Jade Farley and Gwen Norcliffe, and their charmingly coy and subtle singing style coupled with their insightful lyrics are the winning formula here." In an interview set in Warp Records' New York City offices, Battles multi-instrumentalist Tyondai Braxton discusses his debut solo record, Central Market , in depth with a track by track analysis. Reference points veer from Brian Eno to Ghostbusters. [via Spinner ]

Perhaps not ghosts, more inferior Microsoft services. I abhorred their enforced service updates beforehand, but now the installations appear to have crippled my main laptop with no clever suggestions as to how to solve the shite they've engineered. And this relates to this beeeeecccaaause....? I had intended to post day 3 of CMJ and keep the roll going, but all the pictorial/audio content is on that machine. Balls. Luckily, I have the good folks at Insound [...]

Now, Braxton is back on camera, with an exclusive track-by-track breakdown of that album. In the interview, filmed at the Warp Records office in New York, Braxton reveals his influences and thought process behind writing and recording 'Central Market'. Photo by Joe Magers Tyondai Braxton , the lead singer of experimental band Battles has recently released his second solo album titled Central Market. Wired Magazine said: the experimental art rockers are known for their robot-precise musicianship and digital manipulations, so it's no surprise that lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Tyondai Braxton deployed an army of machines for his second solo album, Central Market (out this fall). To record it, Braxton connected traditional instruments like guitar and keyboards [...]

Filed under: Video , Exclusive 'Central Market,' Tyondai Braxton 's latest solo effort, brings the material for which he's become known for creating to a new level. While the Battles frontman normally simulates more than one musician through looping, he's decided to actually bring that synthesized sound to life with a real orchestra on his new album. Braxton got his wish by hooking up with Caleb Burhans, co-founder of the Wordless Music Orchestra. In an exclusive video featuring the two that was filmed at the Warp Records [...]

With an impressive pedigree from both his band and his lineage , it's unsurprising that Tyondai Braxton would score for a large ensemble consisting of everything from kazoos, piccolo, harp, clarinet, double bass, trumpet, xylophone and glock, just to name a few. Braxton's debut solo album, Central Market , will be out September 15, 2009 via Warp , which will feature this wildly ambitious piece, "Platinum Rows", which was recorded live with the Wordless Music Orchestra of New York. Pre-orders for the limited vinyl release can be found here . [via Stereogum ]

Back in July , I posted a new song from Battles' Tyondai Braxton who is ready to release his wild solo album onto the world. This time, check out his newest song called "Platinum Rows" with his signature weird high-pitched singing and his always familiar whistles. He also uses every instrument ever and clips that he got from the ACME anvil company which he stole from Roger Rabbit who also sold him a lot of pot. That's all folks? Central Market is out 9/15 on [...]

Pas mal, pas mal, mais...

Remember those times when you picked up a music magazine or a weekly music paper and read a playlist of what that publication's writers were playing in the office that week? There was power in those playlist charts. Here is my nod to that staple. No great fanfare, just ten of the best song around right now I've been playing lots of. And you thought 'Uffe's Workshop ' was the work of an madcap composer! Wait until you get a load of Battles' Tyondai Braxtons' 'Platinum Rows'. Ten minutes of bonkers off-kilter post-rock neo-classical kazoo-assisted [...]

[Quick note: Post number 51 already!!! Time flies, holmes.] Everyone has a calling. Some people plumb, others prod, others pilfer. Me? Well, I guess my number-one occupation right now is stalking Zach Hill (along with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez , Noah Lennox and a few others I'm not ready to reveal as of this moment). Thing is, the guy makes it so easy. He pops up in the record store almost as much as Merzbow . If I didn't know better, I'd [...]
[via Warp ] It's been more than 2 years since Battles' debut LP rocked the indie world to its knees. And for some reason, they never quite hung around as long as we liked. Thankfully, one of the guys from Battles by the name of Tyondi Braxton is set to release his solo album entitled Central Market on Sept 15th on Warp Records. Check out a new song in the fancy little player above. Technorati Us
by charles poladian I hope the July Fourth weekend treated you right. The weather was gorgeous and everyone was in the best of moods. There is nothing to complain about there. As the summer rolls on, so does the Reel. Plenty of good things up ahead but there is one thing that concerns me. That thing happens to be fall dates for shows and albums. To think the fall is starting to fill up with some great shows, it seems like summer [...]

Tyondai Braxton, he of Battles fame and offspring of avant-garde jazz musician Anthony Braxton, is releasing a solo album. Utilizing an array of sonic elements ranging from guitar and voice to looping and delay pedals to some found objects, Central Market , which sounds like it might sound like Battles, is dropping via Warp Records on September 15th. But for those of you out there that like your rock jams dizzied, there's a stream waiting for you riiiigh chea .
Tyondai Braxton (guitar, keyboards, vocals in Battles) is set to release his solo album Central Market on Warp on 14th September.Uffe's Woodshop is the first track we have heard from Central Market and features vocals/whistling, kazoos, violins, violas, synths, electronics, piano, 6 guitars, bass and drums/percussion. the track sounds like battles but with a much more jazzy orchestral feel to it, it makes me think of "peter and the wolf" for some reason, in any event I'm very looking forward to Central Market. Pre-order Central Market at Bleep.com [...]
Back in '07, a little band called Battles created quite a stir in the music industry. With their quirky munchkined-out math rock, Battles created one of the finer albums in recent memory in the form of Mirrored . Well, for anybody who has been wondering about/begging for/eagerly awaiting a new studio effort from the Brooklyn based proggers, your prayers have been somewhat answered. Well, not reealy, but big fro'd frontman Tyondai Braxton is readying his second solo LP, Central Market due out September 15th via Warp Records . The set [...]

I had planned a couple weeks ago to write a story about the incredible influence I feel math rock has had on indie rock music and whatever other insurgencies are afoot in the pop world. But I had been thinking in the past tense, focusing on a particular group of bands (especially from the D.C. region) who were at their height around the turn of the millennium. Groups like the over-the-hill Fugazi, their descendants Faraquet and Q & Not You, and separate geniuses like Rumah Sakit and Don Caballero were at the top of my list. These bands all deserve [...]
