I first heard Das Glow back in 2007 when Weiss Gaz came out and, whilst I proper loved that tune, after all it is filthy as hell; I will hold my hand up and say that I kinda forgot all about him. Until the other day that is. For some reason the tune popped into my head so I sought him out on Facebook, had a listen and clicked 'like' on the page. Boy am I glad I did because this morning a link popped up to a new mix called Blah Blah Blah. It didn't [...]
Err, hello. You may remember there was once a blog here, the old posts are archived and might reappear in some form in future but for just now: I did once hope to get back to messing around with music posting at some point, and I wanted to take things in a slightly different direction in doing so. My longer term plan was a podcast of some sort, and as such I've created a mix (well, one that I'm reasonably happy to share) that may serve after much playing around. The theme for this one is [...]
No idea who Turbo T is, not gonna front. But somebody just uploaded his mix to soundcloud and I found it via blentwell. Love the internet, its good for you. Because I always post a photo that is sort of relevant. Here is DJ Deeon. Get it while there are still downloads left! Turbo T - Ghetto [...]

Contrary to popular belief, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch's 1991 hit Good Vibrations was not the first hip house track. Fast Eddie invented it; Tyree laid claim to the first hip house track on wax with the 1989 release of Turn Up The Bass , but UK's the Beatmasters say they preceded him by three years. As seen in this documentary , there are fine lines between hip house, rap house, house rap and you name it. The genre grew a lot in the 90's and saw a lot of success on the [...]

Just a glimpse at a few new additions to my crate over the past month.... New double sided release on Institubes for Renaissance Man out of France. A tribal-prog journey with a chopped vocal and prayer service sandwiched in the center. Track down the Riva Starr remix of the track below for added jungle flava. MP3: RENAISSANCE MAN - WHAT IS GURU? Acid is far from over, and evident in this track from '87 complete with dualing 303's and jazz piano [...]
Aw fuck this Vonnegut inspired Space-Time warp, everything is getting really confusing, I am tripping on grainy black and white images of Hugo dressed up in a tux for classy magick styles, sleight of hand, smoke and no mirrors, here comes another awesome Capablanca record out of abe lincoln's stovepipe ...

Berghain by antenne on flickr Achim Brandenburg is a bit of a Chicago house and Detroit techno buff, an area of expertise he first picked up as a record buyer for Hard Wax in his hometown of Saarbruecken. That was during the heyday of soulful house labels such as Prescription, and it's a sound which still can be heard in Prosumer's sets today. "My heart is beating for the early Chicago/Detroit sound and for music that feels similar and transports this feeling into today," explains Achim. Slowly the consumer turned into Prosumer, issuing his first [...]

Last night at Redrum was a big success. Shout out to Mika Snickars for rocking out with some great slept-on house tunes and Pete at Kill City Sport for the afterparty. Here's one of yesterday's heavyhitting latenight tracks on Chicago's legendary Underground Records. Tyree - Acid Over

i can't believe house music has been in the charts for 20 years now. in that respect, it has lasted much longer than so many other genres. when it first arrived in the mainstream, circa 87/88, scenes of loved up club kids dancing in warehouses were completely alien, especially to those of us who weren't old enough even to have experienced sticky carpet clubs of the 80s and view the contrast. i love how so much of the music can be played today in any club, and clubbers of all ages seem to know it. a [...]
Tyree - Acid Over (Tyree's Mix) 1! 2! 3! Are you ready?, Are you ready? A trio of acid tracks here for you, to help kick off the weekend in fine style. Dip 1 is a classic from 1987: Acid Over , apparently so titled because by 1987 Tyree was already "tired of acid music in Chicago", where Ron Hardy had been playing Phuture's Acid Tracks (amongst other things!) since 1985. Many thanks to cubikmusik [...]
