Filed under: News , Exclusive , Music Appreciation Autumn de Wilde There are three great mysterious deaths from the alternative era. 1) The suicide of Kurt Cobain , where he apparently shot himself in the head with a shotgun. Books and documentaries have been made about the Nirvana lead singer's death and there are many who believe his passing was no accident. 2) The drowning death of [...]

I'll be adding a bunch of singles and albums to my sale soon, so if you haven't checked that page out, please do. Okay, now that I have that out of the way, who wants to hear some incredibly stupid remixes? I briefly touched upon this a few days ago, but I recently bought a metric crapton (that's a lot) of DJ Mix singles. These are special 123 singles that are sold to DJs only, usually via a subscription service, and they feature special mixes that are never made available anywhere else. Sometimes they're unofficial bootlegs, [...]

As a kid, fall break was an inspired construct. It wasn’t as lengthy as spring break – a mere Thursday and Friday – but it’s placement in the school year was almost flawless. It fell in the latter half of October, a week or so before Halloween and halfway between the start of the school year and Christmas break. It was far enough into the semester that the hopeless feeling that the school year would never end had set in even if the last warm days of Indian summer were reminders of the summer past. There [...]

It's disconcerting almost, when an act or other emerges that's so fully-formed and fundamentally ready that you can't help but feel they must be comprised of goddamn execs, or the rekindled ashes of recycled Brooklyn bands, or something comparably contrived. CHVRCHES recently seemed to be that sorta band to so many – worshipped within hours of materialising. I didn't quite get it. If you're after faintly insecure electropop then Purity Ring surely had their little ribs wrapped around your heart a while back . But this from equally CAPS LOCK-enamoured New Yoikers HAERTS is one [...]
Romantic love, in the full sense of the term, is an emotion possible only to the man (or woman) of unbreached self-esteem: it is his response to his own highest values in the person of another—an integrated response of mind...

If ever there was an example of everything that is wrong with the world today, the music industry is surely it. In a world where corporations and money are in charge, in some ways they have been the poster child of the financial world as we know it today. Think about it. The so-called 'powers that be' in the music business have been working to control everything you see and hear for decades. It just seems the rest of the business world caught on in more recent decades. From the days of payola to the complete control of [...]

Thank you again PiKaHsSo for including us in your massive song of thank you shouts. Means a whole lot.

While many consider Jay-Z the GOAT when it comes to hip-hop, that doesn't normally bring his leanings outside of the rap realm into play. In a genre where "crossing over" almost requires some kind of non-hip hop movements, Hov is an example of taking some risks and incorporating different sounds into the chamber. These moves have helped accentuate the term "artist" as opposed to plain old rapper. Taking his recent live performances with Pearl Jam and Coldplay as inspiration, we figured we should take a look at some of Jay's most surprising moments outside [...]

Don't mess with perfection. That's what they say. I'm not sure who "they" are exactly, but in this case, they're sort of wrong. I'd amend that old aphorism to say, "Don't mess with your own perfection." Consider: As a writer, it's possible to be too much of a perfectionist and ruin perfectly good copy in the revision process. Not that I've ever produced perfect prose, but over the years, I've learned when to let it go. Occasionally, I've hit "publish" to soon, but that's what the edit button is for. I've never created anything as [...]

So U2 has a new album coming out in the months and months (and months and months and months) ahead. This got me thinking. What should they call it? We've all heard the obvious Songs of Ascent. I can reliably (okay, not really) predict that it will NEVER be called that. Hmmm, so let's look at where we're at. The boys ARE getting older. Possible Album: Vintage - songs include Just a Closer Walker With Me and Phlegm Possible Album: [...]

Last weekend was spent exploring the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It was an experience . This mixtape came about when on the last night, I hiked about a mile down the canyon with some friends to watch the sun set from a different vantage point. We agreed to take some time to listen to music and enjoy the view. Lissie and I both chose Josh Ritter's "Lark" in a moment of musical perfection. These songs capture the awakening, the astonishment, and the insignificance I felt throughout the trip and I'm just as excited to share them as [...]

It's hard to believe this concert is nineteen years old! U2 played the R.D.S. Arena in Dublin on the fourth leg (Zooropa) of their ZOO TV tour. The set is Achtung Baby heavy, and was later broadcast on radio - that's where this bootleg comes from. It's fantastic quality, and was sold in trading circles as the "Zoo Europa Bootleg" (1993-08-28). Thanks to speedymjb for the recording. Setlist/Tracklist: 01. Introduction 02. Zoo Station 03. The Fly 04. Even Better Than The Real Thing 05. Mysterious Ways 06. One > Unchained Melody (snippet) [...]

Give this a listen and then I have a question. Did that make you think of anything? As you can see in this article , U2 has had an impact on Muse. And after listening to Madness (from the new album The 2nd Law), I have to agree (lyrics below as well if interested). Maybe you'll see this but maybe you won't. My first thought was that this was a slower version of Lemon (video below). Curious [...]

After the awful “Unsustainable”, Muse come out with The 2nd Law ’s 1st official single, “Madness”. This sees the band return to more familiar, theatrical territory, wobbly bass and all. There’s no doubt you can hear the obvious Bono and U2 influences on this, but it will certainly work great in arenas. Via
Matt Bellamy has revealed that a big influence on the new Muse album is U2. Whoever would have thought ? Frontman Matt Bellamy told Classic Rock magazine: ''We toured with U2 last year in South America. And there's definitely a little bit of influence come on to this album, a little bit of [1991 album] 'Achtung Baby' here and there.'' Muse have been pushing stadium-shaped vacant bombast for years; surely the U2 influence has always been obvious? -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch
