Here's a selection of things from IDM hero Ukkonen that haven't featured here before. All of them are worthy of your time. And there's a free download. Lysithea is the oldest track here, dating from a couple of years ago. It comes from a free comp - Dance Audit Hour - from Uncharted Audio. Free download Ukkonen - Lysithea Next, a remix by Forever Resound of a track from Ukkonen's Erripao EP : Ukkonen- 'Erriapo' (Forever Resound) And finally, a track from a [...]

Acid Ted's favourite Finn Ukkonen is back with a new tune. It's been all a bit quiet since last autumn but he's got some new stuff out on Rednetic. Here's a new tune, which seems to have been out for a few weeks without me noticing. It's a track from a forthcoming rednetic recordings compilation, One Point Three . There's a harder, more insistent edge to all this. The beats and synths march in step. There's more of an attempt to scale the dance floor and much less of the reflective wide-open spaces and sounds of his debut [...]

No Pain In Pop have announced the second of their Bedroom Compilation series. While the first offering featured the likes of Pariah , patten , D'Eon and more, this new one boasts Finnish producer Okkonen among the seven track duration. Also enlisted this time round are Sweden's John Ola , Buffalo Tide , Beams , patten's new label signing Karen Gwyer , [...]

Yup, a mix the wonderful Ukkonen did for this blog. Free download. I've had a very small handful of mixes done for this blog over the years. But this is quite different. Ever since I heard his mix reimagining Detroit back in February , I knew I wanted to ask Ukkonen to do a mix for this blog. His Isolated Rhythms of... album with 5 tracks spread across 2 x 123 is a must for any lovers of electronic music ( buy now, including on vinyl) with references to Carl Craig and Warp not [...]
Time for the last bit of electronic wonder from the absurdly talented Ukkonen. That may sound like terrible PR hyperbole. But, really, it isn't. He's one of the best things I've heard this year (previously here ). A new ambient track for free download. Ukkonen is from Finland and much of his work has that glacial ambient coldness of early Warp and Aphex Twin or Biosphere. The new track - Eleven Stars - is a bit different, in that it is a warm, enveloping, ambient dream lasting almost 12 minutes. I've no idea whether the [...]

More from Ukkonen. This time an hour long mix for mnml ssgs blog. Listen to a clip below. Been out a while but it's great and if you don't have it, do go get the free download . Of the mix, Ukkonen says " there is no real tracklist for this recording, as I was jamming most of it… The other mixes I've done have been concept ones, so for this I just kept it totally abstract, it's just about the sounds and rhythms and no messing about with anything else! " And mnml ssgs says [...]
To end today's series of Ukkonen posts, here's his debut album - The Isolated Rhythms Of.. which came out at the end of May. The album has five tracks spread across 2 x 123. The LP starts with Three from the 4223 , a game of two halves. The first is a clattery Warp-type effort. The seond moves into a slower Detroit vein, reminscent of Carl Craig, to whom he is sometimes compared. Haukivesi Spirit starts almost beatless, with tones and drones before breaking out into a techno track but with something of [...]
Voilà comment réussir un album de musique technologique. The Isolated Rhythms of... by Ukkonen
Pic: lazingblazer Ukkonen - Primed ( buy ) The mysterious Ukkonen turns out a fantastic 12" on Uncharted Audio. Real icy techno explorations. RDF - True! ( buy ) I spotted a video for this wonderful RDF track a while back, and now the release is out there. Four tracks of pure quality, limited to 300 copies on the O*RS label . [...]

[Uncharted Audio] It seems inevitable that if you make electronic music in a Nordic country, journalists are either going to write about how "icy" your music is or how it's channeling the northern lights, or that it's some kind of tribute to a never-ending midsummer beach party, as though people from those countries can only make music based on extremes. Ukkonen is a shadowy Finnish producer who may or may not live north of the Arctic [...]

We had Ukkonen's latest release earlier in the week. Here's two amazing mixes from No Pain in Pop blog and Official.fm brought to our attention in comments by the label Uncharted Audio. But I thought I'd turn it into a post in case you missed it. These each take Detroit classics and put them into a blender to become almost unrecognisable ambient tunes. Astonishing. No Pain In Pop We introduced you to the “house impressionism” of Uncharted Audio ’s Ukkonen last month and, with his artic arpeggiates [...]

A fabulous limited edition vinyl release of awkward ambient from Ukkonen on Uncharted Audio. This is that vein of strangeness that comes from Northern climes. In the 90s, it would have been Northern England on Warp or Skam and represented the work of Autechre or The Black Dog. These days, it's further north into Scandinavia by mysterious artists that spend much of the year in darkness and hibernation - perhaps. Spatia is a five track EP. Kerrokset feels like something from early 90s Biosphere, with its creaking, gentle melody and warped drums. Primed [...]
Tu espérais une playlist d'été ? Tu es bien mal tombé car Get The Curse te livre ici l'exact opposé.

As I mentioned shortly after it's release, LJ Kruzer's Manhood & Electronics is a truly delightful slice of ambient electronics perfectly suited to a spot of horizontal listening. However, as I'm sure you've gathered by now, I also have rather a penchant for doing the techno shuffle so was excited to learn that select cuts from the LP were being given the remix treatment with the express intention being to give them a little dancefloor oomph. The Manhood & Electronics EP comprises two remixes each of both Poil and Tam with all of the [...]
