So I guess perusing Craigslist's "Missed Connections" section purely for entertainment is really a thing. Not only do MetalSucks readers constantly send us funny ones pertaining to metal, but a friend of mine recently admitted to looking over the New York Missed Connections forum every day over her morning coffee... to see if anybody's mentioned [...]
Ulcerate KICKED SO MUCH ASS in Brooklyn on Saturday night. So much. I'm sorry for you if you weren't one of the 150 or so fans packed into the back room of the Public Assembly (except the dude who puked in the middle of the pit - fuck you!). More on this later. Unfortunately the [...]

Ulcerate's MetalSucks-sponsored North American tour, their first ever, kicks off this Friday in Philadelphia and we couldn't be more excitebike! I've been peripherally aware of the band for years, but since my first real intimate Ulcerate lovefest came with 20112s The Destroyers of All I was incredibly happy to hear from drummer Jamie Saint Merat [...]
(photo credit: Krish Mistry) Ulcerate's first-ever North American tour kicks off this Friday! We can't believe it's finally here, and we know we're not the only ones; people in our circle and on the web have been buzzing about this limited East Coast run, with Tombs and Svart Crown opening, ever since it was announced. [...]
AT LAST!!! Ulcerate's MetalSucks-sponsored North American tour — their first ever on these shores — kicks off in just eight days! Support for the first three dates will come from the mighty Tombs, who are celebrating, appropriately enough, with a new video for their track "Passageways," which Metal Underground informs me was directed by David Brodsky for Scion [...]
It is high time to get very excitebike, my friends: Ulcerate's MetalSucks-sponsored North American tour - their first ever on these shores - is now less than one month away! Ulcerate's 2011 release The Destroyers of All certainly destroyed everyone at the MetalSucks Mansion last year, so we're incredibly pumped to get good and destroyed [...]
Ulcerate's The Destroyers of All was one of the most deliciously heavy and crushingly beautiful releases of all of 2011, landing a spot in four different MS staffers' Best of 2011 lists plus a whole slew of mentions in the lists published by Ulcerate's contemporaries in other metal bands. Now we'll finally have a chance to [...]
The news that New Zealand progressive death metallers Ulcerate signed with Relapse earlier this month was bittersweet. On one hand I love Willowtip Records, and the dudes who run that label are probably bummed Ulcerate have decided to leave, but on the other hand Relapse is a bigger label that will offer Ulcerate a great [...]

DOWNLOAD: Warning//Warning - "Ghosts" (MP3) Black Cobra at The Studio at Webster Hall ( more by BBG ) In addition to their tour with Kyuss Lives! and The Sword that includes 12/9 at the Paramount in Long Island and 12/10 at the Wellmont Theatre in NJ , Black Cobra have added a round of dates that include Saint Vitus (the venue) on 12/11 with [...]
Cosmo at Invisible Oranges has been keeping tabs on which metal record labels are signing up for Bandcamp, a subject that is near and dear to my heart. Man, I am going to miss that guy when he's gone. There is no reason for a label not to be on Bandcamp: the entire catalogue is [...]

Tombs' Path Of Totality topped my list of the Top 26 Metal Albums Of 2011 So Far . I was curious what sort of personal soundtrack went into that muscular, violent, surprisingly delicate and detailed blend of New York noise-rock, black metal, and industrialized blast-beat shoegaze, so I asked them to make a related mix. Before you listen, take a look at vocalist/guitarist/band leader Mike Hill's thoughts on his appropriately dark, punk, and very heavy inspiration playlist. He offers insightful background for fans of the album/trio, but even if you're not into Tombs, [...]
Ulcerate's latest album might not hit the spot for fans of the New Zealand group's more hectic material, but it definitely resonated with me. The relentless drumming and dissonant guitar passages create an ugly atmosphere that's ever-evolving. These guys display an extreme level of technical precision on each of these seven tracks, but the music isn't so flashy that it loses me. In fact, that precision manifests itself into a ton of interplay and some sick grooves that are almost too dizzying to follow. It's a solid metal album. I may not be completely down with how it [...]

Hey Metalheads! I can't believe it is July already! Check out this Sunday's iPod Shuffle! 1. The Hollow Idols - Ulcerate 2. A Plague and the Mixture of...- The Murder and the Harlot 3. Pain Killer - Judas Priest 4. Galactic Abduction - Burning The Masses [...]

Before the quibbling starts: I didn't include YOB's Atma because it isn't out until August. It would be way up there. I've also been listening to Dragged Into Sunlight's Hatred For Mankind quite a bit, but since it has an original release date of '09 before Prosthetic's 2011 reissue, I didn't include that either. On the other side of things, I've recently started listening pretty intensely to Servile Sect's Trvth (Handmade Birds), a collection that feels like it'll stick around for awhile. Otherwise, this is what I've found myself returning to [...]
Tim Mclean, having just wrapped up a seven week run working a carnival in Edmonton, called his girlfriend Alexandra Storey a little after midnight on July 30, 2008 that he was on his way home to Manitoba and then settled in for the 850 mile bus trip. He sent her dozens of texts as the [...]
Last year (and the year before), I got way too busy with this thing called life and ignored this other thing called metal. As a result, I missed out on a lot of quality music. I am here to rectify the error of my ways, month by month. Hopefully. Here are the January 2011 releases [...]
Another good release day for metal! This week sees the release of the latest from DM titans Ulcerate, as well as the debut solo album debut from the already-legendary Bruce Lamont. Our previews of those releases and others coming out this week after the jump. Bruce Lamont – Feral Songs for the Epic Decline (At [...]
So 2011 is officially underway! I mean, we've two full weeks in - time to stop accidentally writing "20103 as the date on shit, y'know? We started to preview some albums we're stoked about, and will continue to do so next week. In the meantime, here's some other fun crap we did this week: The [...]
New Wormrot arrived in my email this morning, meaning today is a good day! You can stream "Manipulation" right up there. It comes from their forthcoming release, Dirge, which has already been completed, recording-wise. The band has confirmed they are appearing on Scion Rock Fest and have also stated they will be planning a full ...
