Uncle Skeleton - Sophisticuffs I came across this delightful release earlier this week on Yewknee , whose experimental imprint, YK Records , happens to be putting out this little beaut. And when I say beaut, I mean it. It's magically packaged as a double LP, providing the perfect listening experience for the "four movements" of the record; and that masterful artwork by Michael Eades (the Yewknee man himself)! All Too Human [...]
"Bayberry Lane" is the first single off m4w , the second album from Uncles , a Queens-based band comprised of Will Schwartz, Dan Bateman, Tom White, and Graham Watson. The song tumbles peacefully along, shifting through a somber tone before culminating in a sincere, satisfying peak. I cant't seem to track down when m4w was released, but you can stream the album over on Uncles' Soundcloud .
Filed under: News , Monthly Mixtape Flickr What happened to February 2012? It didn't even snow in New York City, which by our calculations is one of the 10 pillars of the apocalypse. And with Rick Santorum nearing the Republican Party presidential nomination, we have retreated within our headphones to wait around for the nuclear fallout. So head down to your basement and unplug from the world around you by checking out these 29 great [...]

Official Music Video for "Bayberry Lane" by Uncles. Uncles are a Queens, NY based band and this is off their new album "M4W. "Irresistible storytelling told with a humbling passion and rueful harmony, Uncles use conventional music styles to produce intricate chord changes within very emotional human ties". A sweet mixture of mellow humor and artistic optimism, easily my favorite song off the album. [...]

Last year The Uncles debut album of traditionally inspired folk, Replacing Words With Other Words was an unexpected delight, and in Settler's Song had one of our favourite tracks of the year. We are delighted to report that they are back, now a quartet and not a duo, with their long awaited (by us at least) sophomore album M4W . They will be releasing two singles from the album, and you can grab them both below. Download The Uncles - The Ballad Of Lehigh Valley mp3 (from M4W) [...]

These two tracks seem to find the band in a brighter melodic mood, almost twinkling without reason compared to the " Delicately [...]

Throughout a career-long tendency for lineup and label changes, Chicago-based alt rock band, Wilco have released a wide variety of albums in terms of feel, approach and execution and with their post-A.M catalog ranging from the highly experimental Being There to the surprisingly unthreatening Sky Blue Sky, it would be easy to expect their most recent, The Whole Love to be either characteristically edgy or approachably bland. Surprisingly, this release is somehow neither. Out of familiarity and confidence rather than compromise Wilco have managed to release a record that is at once [...]

Hello all! Here goes my first entry. Yippy! Came across this rad mix of Dutch Uncles's X-O. I personality think it makes the original song a whole lot more interesting. Check it out. I'm indie all the way so expect to see a lot of those coming your way soon. Hope you'll enjoy my selection. As I'm sure both Matt and Uncle will agree, life is no good without music. So let's never stop ✌ Dxx
I was running a bit late and only managed to arrive in time to catch the final two songs of first support act Black Black Hills, all pounding, intricate percussion and deep, gravelly vocals, falling somewhere between Grinderman and LCD Soundsystem. Despite only catching their last two songs, I was hugely impressed; I heartily recommend checking out their debut single "The Celebration". Second support Cymbals play jittery and minimalistic punk-funk / electro, a slightly more shambolic and lo-fi take on the style popularised during the post-punk revival seven or eight years ago. Dutch Uncles' influences really come through on this track with the vocals and build up mimicking that of The Smiths, and yes, doing them justice.
Do you often wonder how your favourite bands ready themselves for the day ahead? Do you ponder their choices of breakfast fodder, or worry about whether they're brushing their teeth effectively? Probably not, but if these are things that interest you, then you're in luck as Dutch Uncles invite us to witness their slightly unorthodox morning routine in the video for their latest single, 'The Ink' The Mancunian five piece return to the video forefront after having released their UK debut album Cadenza back in April. As per Dutch Uncles, this [...]
