Screaming Females Three I-need-to-somehow-reinforce-my -umbrella-to-withstand-windsto rms reasons to head down to Schubas tonight... 1. New Jersey trio Screaming Females have made a strong name for themselves in the few years that they've been together, catching the eye of bands such as Dinosaur Jr and The Dead Weather. And the fame is well-deserved because the trio – bassist King Mike, drummer Jarrett Dougherty and lead singer and guitarist Marissa Paternoster – play heavy garage pop with punk and blues rock tendencies. Their influences bleed through almost every composition; just try [...]

Show starts at 8pm and is $7 at the door, $6 if you're a member of Roboto. Screaming Females is a 3-piece DIY, rock 'n roll punk band from New Brunswick featuring Marissa on vocals, King Mike on bass, and Jarrett on drums. They are signed to Don Giovanni Records. They've opened for Throwing Muses, Alec's Band, The Dead Weather, Arctic Monkeys, and Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, plus have played with Jeff: [...]

One of the major pitfalls of being a punk band and dedicating yourself to the DIY ethos is that sometimes when you self-release, the album eventually fades into the great null of out-of-print records. That was the sad truth for New Brunswick, NJ's own Screaming Females , but it's something they'll remedy this October by reissuing their first two records on vinyl. Also, another pitfall is having to buy a lot of gel for your mohawk. Baby Teeth , self-released by the band in 2006, and What If Someone Is Watching Their T.V.? , [...]
Underground Railroad To Candyland have given us a taste of some new material with this awesome video for the song "Stop Crying Kid." The video was made with 826 still photos taken over the course of a year. Very cool. Check it out below.
Screaming Females fire right down the middle between Husker Du , Damaged Black Flag and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and occupy more psychic space as an irreducibly solid three-piece than bands several times their age and weight combined. There are many gerunds that begin with 'S in English and they use the ten best in every set. Their newest Power Move is out now on Don Giovanni. This interview by Chris Ziegler.

Oh, First Fridays, how lovely to see you again. So the story goes, we've been trying to get our friends The Monolators on a bill with The Underground Railroad to Candyland and Pizza! for over a year and finally the day has arrived. San Pedro CA's Underground Railroad To Candyland Underground Railroad To Candyland have one of the best band names in all of Southern California. When my friend Chris first told me about them I thought he was feeding me a joke band name. Nope. They do exist and man do they kick ass. Underground Railroad To Candyland are fast and fun with a heavy dose good old fashioned punk & rock n roll. "Livin' In A Straw" starts out with [...]

The Underground Railroad To Candyland is four gents from the shores of California. In 2006 they were in The Onion's list of Worst Long Band Names, and in 2007 released an album called Bird Roughs that I have had in rotation. From what I gathered this band would be considered a power group in their native San Pedro, having formed from the hiatus of the much adored Toys That Kill . Bird Roughs was released on Recess Records late last year, and it has some high-quality pop punk tracks that have [...]

Yesterday, I stumbled upon the manic explosive sound that is Triclops! Triclops! practice the art of brutal but cleansing noise, acid punk, psychadelic rock, and hardcore. They are definitely up there with contemporaries 400 Blows and [...]
