I'm a sucker for all things bossa nova, so I was instantly drawn in to this track from the husband and wife duo known as Undersea Poem . Departing from their native New York City, they wrote and recorded their new self-titled LP in Mexico. The full-length was released earlier this year on Six Degrees Records and though this track is my favorite, the entire thing is great. The name Undersea Poem , applied to both the band and their self-titled debut, is really very accurate. Listening to the music of Chris Root and Juju Stulbach (formerly of Mosquitos ) is kind of like floating underwater, without the lack of oxygen. Unlike the more electronic pop of Mosquitos, Undersea Poem is ethereal and calming and occasionally surprising – a kind of slow motion, Esquivel -laced experience that places you somewhere just south of the equator.
