I've been picking up a lot of great psych stuff lately on the UNI Label, a subsidiary of Universal and MCA which released a ton of great psychedelic albums between 1967 and 1972. Released in 1969, "Volume 13 was the first and only full length album put out out by The Yellow Payges from Los Angeles during their 5 year run from 1966 to 1970, however the group did release quite a few singles . Thurz  is a familiar face in the West Coast scene. Part of the New West that was  set off by Blu  and after making some noise and a couple great records with the now defunct duo  U-N-I , Thurz transformed himself and the message in his lyrics to a more serious tone. With the release of his solo debut,  LA Riot  (based on the riots that took place in Los Angeles in 1992), Thurz has received a positive reaction for his smooth brash, in-your-face to smoothed out sounds on the record. Every time I hear about the U-N-I crew, all I can think about was how much promise I saw in them after hearing " Beautiful Day " all those years ago. Moving along, one half of the Left Coast duo, Thurz , is lending a hand to longtime collaborator Ro Blvd for the Mister Whitmore-directed visuals to their latest single, " Great Going Good ". The catchy banger will appear on Ro Blvd's upcoming producer album Heart Pounding Panic , which is due out early 2012. Hit the skip to watch the video.

It is no secret that for the last couple of years Unis has been getting a lot of attention for an arguably perfect chino that she has created by combining ideals from Italy and America. With every new song Thurz releases from his upcoming album LA Riot , I become more convinced that the split of U-N-I was a good thing. Both Yonas and Thurz have held their own as solo artists and the latter's concept album/tribute to the 1992 riots that rocked Los Angeles is shaping up to be pretty tough. On "Riot" DJ Khalil provides the aggressive backdrop, Black Thought is Black Thought (i.e. aggressive lyricist) and Thurz sounds a little agitated as he talks terrorism and the never-gonna-die rumor of LeBron James' mother fornicating with Delonte West.
