There are plenty of new bands these days that merit comparisons to standard 90s bands, and Radical Dads surely fits that bill, but I will politely refrain from making those comparisons. Suffice it to say that if you like rock in the truest sense of the word, you will love Radical Dads . In the words of their song, "New Age Dinosaur": "I don't think so I know so / This is the future and the future is now! / I was listening and was told so / This is where we're headed, there's [...]

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars When Dirty on Purpose broke up, I was a bit saddened, thinking I'd never get to hear their blend of sharp-edged indie pop again. Luckily, Doug Marvin and his wife, Annie of Au Revoir Simone , had other thoughts in mind, forming Pursesnatchers at home in their bedroom. They've since fleshed out a full band and completed A Pattern Language , giving all the old DoP fans something to hold onto. "Forever Ahead" [...]
Pursesnatchers began as an at-home recording project but lucky for us, they've taken their collection of gems to a studio to release for our listening bliss.

Tweet Buy the album from Amazon - MP3 | CD Radical Dads don't have the greatest band name, which sounds like something those midlife crisis dads who still have instruments lying around their house that they barely play would call themselves when set up in a garage. Lindsay Baker, Chris Diken, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah 's Robbie Guertin have something completely different in mind with debut album"Mega Rama", [...]

Radical Dads and Nerves Jr . are playing the Zanzabar on June 29th!! This is one of those shows that you can't miss. Radical Dads is coming in from NYC and have quite the pedigree (see Clap Your Hands Say Yeah). They just released their debut album a week ago on Uninhabitable Mansions ( check it out here ). One listen and you will be hooked. Zanzabar may explode. To sweeten the mix, locals Nerves Jr. are opening. We've had our eye on this band [...]

I'm going to say right now, but one of my favorite records so far this summer has been the advance I got of Pursesnatchers , the group comprised of members of Dirty on Purpose and Au Revoir Simone. The combination of gentle melody and explosive indie rock moments. The rising tides in the songs, much like those in the album, take you on a journey where you're sure to get your money's worth. Their new record, A Pattern Language , will be coming out on July [...]
Tweet After having to keep my mouth shut for the best part of a year for the debut album by Radical Dads, now they're just attacking the shit outta the internet and dropping track after track for your wee downloady hands. Two weeks ago they dropped "New Age Dinosaur" and this week they've released "Walking Wires" that's just as raucous as almost every other song on the album, "Mega Rama". It's got a bit of a U2 vibe to it, that epic [...]

I've been aware of this band for some time now, anxiously awaiting the chance to introduce them to you. Pursesnatchers began as the project of Doug from Dirty on Purpose , who I loved, but soon his wife Annie from Au Revoir Simone joined in to round out the project. The band releases its debut, A Pattern Language on Uninhabitable Mansions July 19th, which based on this first single is going to be every bit as exciting as I hoped. It features the [...]
A month or so ago I tossed out a track from Radical Dads , a new up-and-comer who had caught my ears. They had released a few tracks/singles, but now they're premiering the first track from their upcoming album Mega Rama , which comes out June 14th via Uninhabitable Mansions . This song has this cascading pop element, rising and falling all the way to it's end. Vocals have a bit of youthfulness, even when the screech of the climactic moment joins the track. If [...]
Tweet Eight damn months. That's how long I've been waiting to post more new music from Radical Dads . Back in the middle of September 2010 their guitarist Robbie got in touch and sent me their album. He just so happens to also be the guitarist in seminal NYC art-rockers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, which is slightly evident in "Mega Rama", the Dads' debut album. It's been almost painful for me to have this album for eight months, listen to [...]
Who could imagine that these two unassuming lads would make such potently driven music? Well, luckily, we'll all get to experience that a bit more, as Radical Dads plan to release their debut Mega Rama on Uninhabitable Mansions on June 14th. Recently, they tossed out their Reckless 73, which features the track below, and you can grab those all for free over at the group's page. Listening to those guys sort of reminds me of the vocal moments of No Age , you know, if [...]

[iPhone 4 photo by acidjack] Radical Dads is a recent offshoot of our friends Uninhabitable Mansions , consisting of drummer/vocalist Robbie Guertin (also of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah ), Chris Diken, and vocalist Lindsay Baker. The band is still in its early stages, but the musical talent they have behind them speaks well of their potential. The band's music leans toward the more raw, lo-fi side of the spectrum, but the pop sensibility of their predecessor bands is also evident. "Recklessness" is a great introduction to the band, a two-minute blast of [...]

Band of Horses - Factory Byrjum þetta á rólegu nótunum með laginu "Factory" af Infinite Arms , nýjustu plötu Band of Horses . Monday: Phosphorescent @ Union Pool 9pm $12 [ tix ] Tomorrow Phosphorescent will be dropping a new record called Here's To Taking It Easy . Tonight you get a chance to see that material performed live as the band will be celebrating the release of the new record with an intimate performance at Union Pool. Sounds like a great way to um...take it easy on a Monday night! (Sorry pun haters!) Phosphorescent - "The Mermaid Parade" Tuesday: [...]

Saturday, the final day of SxSW, brought about a big surprise: the weather. What had been perfect sunny skies and 70 degree weather turned gray, windy and cold. Frigid in fact, people were walking around in winter jackets and avoiding outside shows like the plague. Starting to feel the fatigue, we got a late start, opting to check out the record and poster fair at the convention center before seeing any music. The record fair was pretty much a bust, but it was cool to see the myriad of posters and it was [...]

Photo borrowed from Claudia Kay Photography Apparently I should dedicate this mix to Brooklyn. Eight out of ten songs has something to do with this petri dish for indie music. My apologies for a couple of harsh transitions this week. I just had to put these three songs in the front because I think they are all really good and then I ended up with some things tacked on the end because I wasn't sure where to put them. That doesn't make them any less great. [...]
