When it comes to music, I'm what you might call a habitual harmonizer. Doesn't seem to matter what song I'm listening to, when I sing along to it I start devising some sort of vocal harmony. I'm not sure where this urge stems from, but I think it has to do with learning to sing the alto part when I was all of six or seven years old. My father directed our church choir and he would let me sit in and practice with them (better to keep an eye on me, I think), [...]

This year more than previous years I have been listening to individual songs more than whole albums. Don't get me wrong there have been some great albums released this year that I like and listen to ( Interpol, Midnight Juggernauts, Arctic Monkeys, Blonde Redhead, The National, The Shins , etc...) Check out some of Chris' great choices too, but due to my process of finding new music nowadays (other music Blogs like Off the Radar), once or twice a month I compile all the best new tracks I find and put them into mix CD's which I then use to [...]

As promised, a little something for the weekend. These tracks have consumed me...I know they'll do the same to you. Enjoy. MP3: Union of Knives Opposite Direction Beautiful harmonies, deep beats. I'm expecting a lot from this Scottish group, and this track is the reason why. MP3: Algernon Cadwallader Second-Rate Machines (Demo) These obscure emokids hail straight from the East Coast, which I seriously wouldn't [...]

Just before the much heralded opening of Rough Trade's new Brick Lane store later this week (that's it in the pic above), here's a related post. As I suggested last week, I finally got round to ripping some of my haul from the Rough Trade Covent Garden shop closing down sale last week. Plenty of bargains to be had – 7 inches at 50p, LPs from £1! This gave me the opportunity to get some records I had previously eyed at a higher price. But more often, just to get some bargains and take a few chances. So [...]

There wasn't a mix for April since we have been doing the "On Rotation" segment every week. But I decided to put one together for April/May and call it the spring edition. It has a mix of rock, dance, retro, etc. I am pretty happy with it. Fresh stuff for the coming warm days outside. Also, the QP crew will be heading across the country to enjoy Coachella next week (yes, all those annoying coachella posts will be over soon...we promise). I am sure we will all be destroyed when we [...]
I'm tired of talking. Aren't you tired of hearing me talk? 1. Josh Ritter - Girl In the War 2. The Black Keys - She Said, She Said (Beatles) 3. Union of Knives - Evil Has Never 4. The Reverend Payton's Big Damn Band - My Soul To Keep 5. Arvo Pärt - Fratres For 4, 8, or 12 Cellos
Sweet Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, but strep throat can really suck on both my balls at once. Somehow I managed to maintain a twenty-five year streak of not getting it, but like my mom always said, "Streaks are just a way for you to measure the time between failing". Or something. Anyway, here's some music. Joakim, "I Wish You Were Gone" (vocal edit) - Look, here's the deal: I really, really, really want to open this up by discussing Joakim as an active participant in that whole Justice/Digitalism/ Nite Versions BOSH-BOSH-BOSH school [...]
