I first heard about Disco Deviance on a Wednesday night at Sugar - I think one of the Carter Bros was playing one of their edits to an empty room. I asked what the record was, which I later tracked down at a record store in Portland, Oregon. This an edit by Label boss Dicky Trisco of a band I have never heard of. Sometimes that's the best basis for a good edit - recomended for those that like it funky and a little cosmic. The Universal Robot Band - Barely Breakin' Dub (Dicky Trisco [...]

After many years, he is finally releasing a compilation of remixes and rarities titled John Morales: The M&M Mixes that anyone who loves dance music needs to hear. [...]

Kleeer was a lazer soul group from 1979 through the early 80's. They went through a couple of different names and styles in the early 70's. They were first known as Pipleine, then The Jam Band, then Universal Robot Band (produced by Greg Charmichael and Patrick Adams), and finally, Kleeer. The new name came with a southern rock looking logo and self produced tracks. With their funky synth laden boogie sound, the band penned a bunch or minor hits for Atlantic in the early 80's. Here we have the slammin' boogie tune Tonight , and an [...]

Some slow mo 80's groove perfect for these cold winter evenings. Love the bassline, then the vocoder hits. Perfect. From their 1984 LP "Intimate Connection". They had a stint calling themselves The Jam before the English group started getting big. Also previously known as the Universal Robot Band & Pipeline before settling on Kleeer. "...tonight I'm gonna do it to ya right" sung through a vocoder pretty much encapsulates what I love about the 80's. Kleeer - Tonight To skip the countdown timer on zshare downloads: clear [...]

Universal Robot Band, "Thyme" ( YSI link ) Universal Robot Band, "Disco Boogie Woman" ( YSI link ) Universal Robot Band, "Space Disco" ( YSI link ) Okay, I got all that white boy blues out of my system, time to get back to the dancefloor. Not just any dancefloor, but a weirdo, space-y one in the late 70s, our favorite time. Universal Robot Band aren't just one of the best named bands ever, they also put out some rad disco music for a short [...]
The dream team collaboration of vocalist Leroy Burgess with producers Greg Carmichael, and Patrick Adams yielded so many amazing recordings between their many different musical projects. The Universal Robot Band's tenure began in 1976 with the "Dance and Shake Your Tambourine" single and ended in 1982 with the release of the boogie masterpiece "Barely Breaking Even". The majority of Burgess's releases in the early 80's came out on Salsoul, but this single was released on the fairly obscure Moonglow imprint, which makes an original pressing much harder to come by. [...]

And there was much rejoicing It's difficult to know where to start with the events which led up to what can only be defined as the single most explosively joyous musical event I can remember in a good long while. I doubt, for instance, if I would have enjoyed it as much if I'd gone to Coachella as I'd planned, or if I hadn't found myself peeking out at the daylight from the other side of my first involvement with the law, or if my 2007 hadn't been tinted with interminable girl [...]
