A-side "Forever Wading" is a joyous ode to the warm weather months, rolling through thickets of tribal drumwork and pitch-skewed vocals before reaching a colossal, laser-show-worthy finale. [ mpe ]

Downloadable: almost no WORDs Mixtape (mediafire) I also uploaded a few individual mp3s from the mix, [...]

Foot Village is getting ready to roll out a new 73 on How To Fight Records in late October. The drum 'n' shout band have designed the Lovers With Iraqis/Totally Tween 73 as "a guidebook for the forthcoming apocalypse," with a song of hope and a song of doom. Here is the song of hope. The message is simple: "the most important thing to remember is that life should be about having fun and sharing love with all those around you." Listen. Downloadable: Lovers With Iraqis (mp3) Oh, [...]

You may remember that we told you about a side project from one of the members of Foot Village called Back to the Future the Ride . The one man act is going to head out on tour next month with an appropriate tour mate, Universal Studios Florida . It's probably impossible to find a sillier named touring pair, but the weirdness from the acts certainly isn't limited to their monikers. Sadly, all the tour dates are limited to the west coast on this venture, all of which are posted after the jump. [...]

The Seattle duo USF , formerly known as Universal Studios Florida , sent over a new track called 'Branss', the B-side from a new EP coming out soon on Highfives and Handshakes . Also, the band posted two fine tunes from the upcoming full-length The Spray on their Bandcamp page in order to try and collect some money for new equipment, since most of their stuff were stolen from the practice space. This here video was created by Angie Meng , along with Miller and Margot Padilla. The tagline for the video is: Shot on a distant, oceanic planet. Returned to earth via a wormhole in my cat's eye. Watch it. Streamable: Black Bones Inside the Sun Pink Bones Encircling the Sun (vimeo) [...]

In case you missed it, " Juneuary " has become one of the more popular portmanteaus being bandied amongst all the bitching about this seemingly unseasonable Seattle spring (the last few days notwithstanding). I think it's a word both depressing and hilarious, and I've found myself utilizing it several times. But the reality is that we'd all like the warm summer weather to get it's purty little act in gear, and sometimes we need music to be our personal weather balloon. . One album I've turned to in defense of my apparent [...]

Illustration by Mike Howdy howdy!!! It's already hump day, who you humpin' today? You enjoying MIXTAPES WEEK as much as I am?? Sweet bajiggity jesus on a stick, dipped in batter, deep fried, and served with a dollop of brown horseradish mustard it's been nuffin' but good times in the house! Now, after yesterdays Photograph Of The Day excursion into the odd world of humanity , I think maybe we keep this one on the shortened side, eh? Today we got a mixtape from one [...]

Is it time to start listing the best tracks of year already? Why yes, yes it is. Now, a lot of these tracks have been available for a while (e.g. last year or in the GT 2010 preview ), but they either had their official release this year or I just thought they should be on this list for some other reason or another. Without further ado, I give you the first volume of the Best Downloadables of 2010. Downloadables: Spector (mp3) by Signals [...]

Chillwave. It's probably the most recent new sub-genre to spring forth from mother rock n' roll in the past 12 months. And in the very short time it has been in existence it has been pretty widely praised, ridiculed, consumed, imitated and hotly debated. First, there were heated debates as to whether or not it should be called 'hypnogogic pop,' 'glo-fi' or 'chillwave' (for all intents and purposes, the term 'chillwave' has won out as the most widely-used and accepted). This was followed by debates on whether it had already worn out its welcome in the [...]

I don't think I've said this, but Happy New Year! I'm eight days late in saying so, but I started thinking about resolutions for the new year. Some have already come to fruition. I've joined a book club! Our first book is "the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay: A Novel " and we meet quarterly. I'm going to stop eating out as much and start cooking more (save tons of money that way). Last, but not least, the very cliche, going to start hitting the gym again. We have an elliptical , but it's stored in the [...]
