The third album from UNKLE hits store shelves tomorrow. It's been four years since Never, Never, Land and although this one is a departure from their old sound, their impact definitely remains. This one boasts a slew of amazing guest artists including Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Ian Astbury (The Cult), 3D (Massive Attack), The Duke Spirit, Autolux and Gavin Clark (Clay Hill). War Stories will be released on James Lavelle's new label, Surrender All, and the packaging features paintings specially commissioned by Massive Attack's 3D. The standard [...]

Tuesday's show was yet another great one - my guest for the evening was Michael Eades of Yewknee.com and he did a fantastic job as a DJ. Michael brought a ton of great music and knew a lot about what he was playing, which was great - plus he was incredibly comfortable on the air (one of the most comfortable guest DJs I've had so far this summer, I think). I'm definitely going to have to bring him back on the show sometime this fall if he's willing, and in the meantime [...]
Argh, so many songs for this theme! I apologize if this is too many, but I managed to pare it down to....okay, I didn't pare it down much at all. CANINES New Wave pirate/highwayman/dandy Adam Ant 's Dog Eat Dog is typical of his early sound, especially the throbbing "Burundi beat" (African-derived drums). This is probably one of my favorites of his. [ Buy 'Kings of the Wild Frontier" ] Gyroscope 's [...]

UNKLE has always been one of my favorite groups (in all its various incarnations) mostly because of James Lavelle's work. Psyence Fiction is quite possibly one of my all time favorite records. UNKLE's latest record is War Stories due out at the end of this month. A bit back I featured the Junkie XL remix of the first single "Burn My Shadow" which is an amazing club/dance track/remix. Be sure you check out the video here . War Stories features some usual faces from past records of [...]

Summer is a great time to look back at what you've accomplished so far. From the blogger's perspective, it's a great time to assess the year in music. With that in mind, the Rock Sellout writers have decided to do a little mid-year reflection and offer up our picks for some of the best releases from the first half of 07. We're a wacky bunch, so expect the unexpected. Kip's Mid-Year Picks : Arcade Fire - Neon Bible MP3 : Arcade Fire - "No Cars Go" [...]

In which an actor from ER wakes up with a bomb countdown strapped to his chest and proceeds to lose it. The run of cinematic UNKLE videos continues and it's a good one. Ian Astbury is the frontman for the song and does a great job, reminding me a bit of the singer from Interpol. Make sure you watch til the last frame. Burn my Shadow video The Recording of Burn my Shadow [...]

In the wake of yesterday's post about Fridge, I feel the need to talk about another extremely cool album that has something of a post-rock electronica kind of feel to it. I'm talking about the new album from UNKLE, titled "War Stories." July 24th is the date you can pick it up, and boy is it worth the wait. What you get on the new album is exactly what you might expect from James Lavelle, and that's only in a good way. If something works then you keep doing it until it doesn't anymore. In this case, the dark and [...]

UNKLE 's War Stories , the group's third album, drops next month and like its predecessors it will feature a rich line-up of collaborators; many including Queens of the Stone Age 's Josh Homme and Massive Attack 's 3D have already appeared on previous albums . In typical UNKLE fashion however, fresh unexpected faces are added to the mix including The Cult frontman Ian Astbury who sings for the album's lead single "Burn My Shadow" as well as "When Things Explode." Stereogum posted the remarkable video [...]
Sorry for the general lack of posts around here lately, but I guess I've been feeling a little burnt out on new releases, lately. Instead of listening to The White Stripes, Ryan Adams, or Iron & Wine, I've gone on a Sonic Youth binge lately, working my way backwards through their entire catalog in anticipation Daydream Nation 's imminent remastered release. I'm on A Thousand Leaves right now, and I've come to the following conclusion about their past five releases: Sonic Nurse Murray [...]

The trip-hop outfit UNKLE has had some interesting trends during their >10 year history. Hell, how many bands can list a (then still vital) DJ Shadow in their roster? They have been given plenty of time to develop and it shows on their latest, War Stories , which, unbelievable as it may seem, is only their 3rd full length release. It seems that with time, the band has become, if anything, more traditional. Practically every song on War Stories features a guest vocalist and a melody that [...]
www.unkle77.com brings to us a new videoclip from third studio album James Lavelle's project UNKLE - War Stories. We can looking forward to featuring Ian Astbury (Cult), Josh Homme (Queen of the stone age), 3D (Massive Attack) and Autolux. And there is some mp3's from stereogum.com : UNKLE - "Chemistry [Feat. Josh Homme]" (MP3) UNKLE - "9 Persons And Machinery [Feat. Autloux]" [...]
I don't know much about Unkle, aside from that song they did with Thom Yorke a few years back with the crazy bum video, but their new record sounds like it might be worth checking out. According to Wikipedia their...

The new EP from UNKLE - Night's Temper (A prelude to War Stories) has trickled it's way to the majesty of the interwebs through a few different sources... and oh my GOD is it good. Tracks feature guests such as Autolux (on "People and Machines")[YES!!!], The Duke Spirit (on "May Day")[AWESOME!], and if the rumors is correct - Josh Homme playing guitar on "Chemistry" [YES!!! AGAIN!!!]. It's such an amazing mix of sounds. Less dance-y than the previous UNKLE imports (Eye For an Eye, Big Brother Is Watching), and [...]

Release Date: 07.24.07 James Lavelle is both the Timbaland and The Archbishop Don "Magic" Juan of the electronic-rock-chronic universe. The liner notes on War Stories , the third album from UNKLE, reads like a festival guest list, citing eclectic raconteurs from all bends of the storybook spectrum, who join talents and tall tales to create the best home makeover record of 2007. "Chemistry" picks up the pulverizing jab of power Lavelle punched all over the Sexy Beast soundtrack, one of many albums produced by big pimpin, who decides to [...]
