"Food is the new rock 'n roll." - Justin Warner, chef at Do or Dine "A knife, a fork, a bottle and a cork /That's the way we spell New York." - Escort, "Cocaine Blues" "You're going to what?" The Great Googa Mooga doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but "music," "food," and "festival" do, and that's about all I needed to tell people about the eponymous inaugural festival this weekend in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. If that wasn't enough to win over the skeptics, I broke it down by the numbers: 75 [...]

Last week, SKoA favorites Unknown Mortal Orchestra released a new tune on the soundtrack to accompany Daniel Johnston's comic book Space Ducks: An Infinite Comic Book of Musical Greatness titled "Satanic Planet". Sadly, the awesome new song will not be featured on the upcoming sophomore effort by UMO, as stated on their twitter , and will only appear on the soundtrack as it was based on the comic itself. The album is now available Johnston's Eternal Yip Eye label and features new music by Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Eleanor Friedberger, Deer [...]

Singing/song-writing cult hero Daniel Johnston is back with his first studio album in three years, and the 18th one of his career. The Space Ducks: Soundtrack is envisioned as a musical companion to Johnston's own comic book, Space Ducks: An Infinite Comic Book of Musical Greatness, which he revealed at this year's SXSW . The 12-track LP features seven original compositions by Johnston, plus songs from Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Deer Tick, Eleanor Friedberger, Fruit Bats, and Lavender Diamond. Production was handled by Grupo Fantasma member Adrian Quesada. All the cuts take inspiration from the [...]

"I'm looking for something that'll… break through. You know?" James Woods' Max Renn yearns in David Cronenberg's 1983 cult classic Videodrome . Oh, how things have changed. In today's day and age, we've already drowned in media. It's swallowed us. We're nothing but a bubble amidst one infinite, engulfing abyss. Intimidated? You should be. With each passing second, you're losing opportunities to take advantage of a culture that's moving ahead and at an exhausting rate. You could very well be alone… left behind… abandoned. Terrified yet? Yes? Well, that's more like it. Alabama Shakes – "Hold [...]
Unknown Mortal Orchestra offer up another official visual, this time for their track "Nerve Damage" which featured on their self titled debut. The video is a low budget affair featuring some creepy glowing eyeballs, skulls and an array of other weird and wonderful additions as it progresses. Check it out at the top and if you like what you hear their album, Unknown Mortal Orchestra is out now via Fat Possum .
Watch the latest video for Portlands' UMO uploaded by PitchforkTV above.
Instead of promoting their debut album, touring a little bit, and then calling it a day. It appears that Unknown Mortal Orchestra won't be moving forward until they have a music video out for each song on their first full-length. Anyone complaining? Well, if the quality of visuals continue at such a high level like they have, I don't think so. For their latest stunt, UMO grapple with acid for one of their harsher jams, "Nerve Damage".

Baltimore fuzz junkies Lower Dens have dropped a second track from their anticipated album, Nootropics , which will be released April 30th in North America. The track, titled "Propagation" undulates, well propagates, forward with characteristic rhythm. Listen and download it over at Stereogum . In a swift turn of events, the A$AP Rocky / Lana Del Rey collaboration was removed from inclusion in The Kickdrums mixtape that dropped yesterday, due to A$AP Rocky's desire to keep the song, titled "Ridin'," for a future album. The Kickdrums tweeted, [...]
Unknown Mortal Orchestra released a video to complement the punchy, lo-fi art-rock of "Nerve Damage". The track is a two-minute burst of energy, so you can expect the video to get straight to the point; the queasy, drug-addled fuel of the track is mimicked well. A man is on the run from something, probably a

New visuals from the Portland based group, Unknown Mortal Orchestra is directed by Kamp Grizzl. You can't go wrong with skulls, upside-down peace signs, neon-colored veins, and glowing eyeballs. One of the standout albums from 2011
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Nerve Damage (by pitchforktv ) One of my faves from 2011 has a new video. If you still haven't met UMO, can't recommend it enough! This clip for Unknown Mortal Orchestra's "Nerve Damage", directed by Kamp Grizzly, features skulls, upside-down peace signs, neon-colored veins, and glowing eyeballs.

Enjoy.
