At some point along the way, in my reel collecting jaunts, a came across a small batch of tapes containing some mid to late 1980's material related to the Domino's Pizza company. Collected here is the contents of most of those tapes. First up, what appears to be a selection of ads designed for a "Domino's Pizza Delivers" campaign. I only remember the last of these actually airing in my area, as part of the wholly annoying "The Noid" campaign (to be represented in the next section, as well), so I wonder if these were demos, submitted by the [...]
Alps Cru - Pitstop Alps Cru - The Concept Alps Cru - Pick Up The Crossfader Aight I posted a while back news of Alps Cru's new EP, without really explaining who they are. Well this is why I'm so... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Unknown - Luv. Three A / Love Unlimited Vibes (LUV 003) by matthias meyer LUV 03 B by LOVE UNLIMITED VIBES The vinyl is back, once again gaining more and more attention as a media format during 2011. For two reasons. First, since everybody and their mom are able to "Dj" today thanks to the modern solutions like Ableton , Traktor and Serato. We love the technology and how it takes [...]
The things you find on three inch reels of tape! Offered today are two recordings, completely unrelated but having been recorded on that most personal of the reel tape, the easily mailable and easily shareable three inch reel. First up, an audio letter from a father in Elgin, IL, to his daughter in Riverside, CA, in the summer of 1970. By recording at the slow speed of 1 7/8 inches per second, he was able to fit nearly 45 minutes onto this short amount of tape. Featured here is the second side only, for two reasons. First, the monologue on [...]

This post gives those with an interest in the history of music hall a chance to sample a wonderful book about the remarkable Honri family. It's called Working the Halls by Peter Honri. Like many such books on the subject, it's now out of print, but this post is a chance for you to read a few excerpts and listen to tracks from the accompanying flexidisc, called Concert-in-a Turn . It features a loving preface (or 'Overture') by Spike Milligan which laments the fact that "a few etchings and paintings by Sickert are the [...]

So here's a long overdue follow-up to a 2007 Beware Of The Blog post about country music records featuring fuzztone guitar sounds. Call me nuts, but I find extraordinarily endearing the improbable blend of country music traditionalism and tastefully restrained space-age guitar pyrotechnics that can be heard in these tunes. A quick recap: the fuzztone guitar sound was born in the summer of 1960, on Don't Worry (MP3), a Marty Robbins country [...]

The time has finally arrived. The most hyped tune of the last 12 months now has a vinyl release on Swamp81 . From the first time this tune was played on RinseFM by DJ Oneman till now, the identity of the artist still remains a mystery. The smart money in on Joy Orbison but nothing has been confirmed. It certainly has the Joy O style of synth and vocal chops but regardless of that, its a top tune. Get it at Boomkat now.

Created as a mad fun-house and disaster zone by UK beloved artists, the Unfairgrounds entranced those looking to escape from the chaos of the Glastonbury Festival this past weekend and buy a ticket to enjoy themselves in a plane and car crash, zombie-filled carnival. Thom York and Nigel Of Radiohead joined in on the fun, and played a surprise guest DJ set to the limited amount of people that decided to cross over to the dark side. Below is a personal message from Thom , and a mixtape of what [...]

Last November, I posted the contents of a reel of tape containing an albums' worth of 1960's material by Larry Taylor , who I had first featured in the 365 days project . Today, another tape full of tracks, which, like the first set, has notes indicating they were meant to be part of (or perhaps the entirity of) an album released under Mr. Taylor's name. In addition, I have a few odds and ends from yet another tape from the many Larry Taylor tapes I became the owner of, back in the late 1980's. What [...]

Tweet On Channel Four in the U.K. for the last couple of months or so there's been a show (Live From Abbey Road) where some of the lesser-known artists in the British music scene have set up shop at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London to record and rework some of their own numbers. Previous participants have been Mount Kimbie and Trophy Wife , and now the former's friend and collaborator James Blake has done the same, performing [...]

You can hear some marching bands letting their hair down a bit here in some descriptive records, sometimes with attendant sound effects. 01 The Phantom Brigade – The Home Guards Band If it is possible to be both spooky and sprightly, well, this is. 02 Baby Parade – Band of H.M. Welsh Guards [...]

In the past 3-4 years, one of the most popular sounds in the indie space is lo-fi. Which is a common way to describe indie rock that was recorded with an intentional 'dirty' sound. While some have cringed at the intentional muddy sound of bands like Times New Viking and Sleigh Bells, a good group of others have flocked to it and championed it for it's charm. I'm not afraid to say I have been mostly on the side of those who cringed early on, the first Times New Viking album and early Wavvess recordings made me [...]

Tweet At about this time last year James Blake really began a steep rise to prominence, and about five months ago that status was met with the release of his debut self-titled album . Since that release he's dropped a couple of singles from the album, namely "The Wilhelm Scream" and "Lindisfarne" , but only a couple of weeks ago Hemlock, the label where he released his debut 123 single "Air & Lack Thereof" , announced that [...]
