Teen-beat are re-releasing Unrest's PERFECT TEETH , no cheap jewel case shenanigans mind, but a beautifully boxed collection of six coloured 7 inch records with extra tracks. Hats off to you Marky Robinson … it looks so lush… if I wasn't so strapped I'd grab one off you… Really loved this album back in the day, shit that was a long time ago must be 17 years, seems like yesterday... those poppy hooks and that jangled sizzle, grabbing the focus, simple songs full of mileage. Now Imperial FFRR will always [...]

Perfect Teeth was originally issued back in 1992 on Teenbeat , the label run by Unrest guitarist Mark Robinson. Now, as the album approaches its 20th anniversary, Teenbeat has announced the six 73 box set of the album will be going back in print for the first time in 15 years. Set to be released in the Spring, the box set will be released in a numbered edition containing 16 tracks spread over six different colored 73 records, and will include a revised 24 page booklet. Preorders are available now from the [...]
I think I may have set my VCR to record this on 120 Minutes back in the day but I can't be certain - either way, enjoy this recently unearthed Unrest video for " Cherry Cream On ." <!-- <!-- <!--

Words by Rick Moslen I briefly considered having a Part 1 and Part 2 for this segment. Why? Well your favorite bands showcased their best work on this English label, and a list of thirty-five albums still runs far too short. A speedy mention of 4AD 's 30-year old history recalls the sweat-enduring mystic of the Cocteau Twins or the glacial European folk of Dead Can Dance . You piss your pants from The Birthday Party 's nihilistic insanity, while tears trickle from your eyes when reading Mojave [...]
A new video from Atlas Losing Grip off their excellent new album "State of unrest" which you should most certainly check out , if you haven't already. Direct link: http://youtu.be/4j0oRenbPuk

They say there are only two motivating factors in life - penalty and reward. Separate from the fold with a great tune from the fine and former Unrest. The track is found on the Isabel Bishop EP , released early in the nineties. http://www.teenbeat.net/

The 26th of March was a day of ideological opposites. What you've undoubtedly been subjected to over the last few days, however, is an endless stream of images that show the protest at its most violent and turbulent. Despite the media's corruption of the day, at times it was exactly like that. By 9pm Piccadilly was a wasteland: fires billowed from huge piles of rubbish, bins and traffic cones littered the streets and the police desperately tried to control the situation as best they could. It hadn't started like this however. 11 hours earlier I was on the [...]
Looks like this is a movie we will continue to see in other countries throughout the Middle East region. Things, unfortunately, will not go as 'smoothly' as they did in Egypt. This video below purports to show Yemeni police shooting at reform protesters in Yemen:

I wanted to revisit yesterday's subject briefly. I found it interesting to read in Brandon Gentry's excellent review of Perfect Teeth that Mark Robinson's one regret about the album was that he and the other band members were too involved in the mixing of the album, and wishes he had left producer Brian Paulson alone to do his job. "I think I should have not even been there," he [Robinson] said. "It was mixed in Bethesda, Maryland at Avalon with Brian Paulson. I just remember at some point I was twiddling a lot [...]

Unrest's Perfect Teeth is--in my opinion--one of the finest albums of the indie-rock wave that crested in the early part of the 1990s (and had crashed by the mid 90s). Released on 4AD in 1993, the album has been out of print for years, but I see it is finally available as a download from Amazon , eMusic and probably other places as well. Pure and catchy as can be, I highly recommend it. Brandon Gentry did a fantastic write up of the album at DCist , including quotes from [...]

The window is closing. You've only got until tomorrow night (8/20) to enter to win tickets to see Pavement on 9.9.10. Click here to enter now. I won't act like I'm not heartbroken that, newly reunited, Unrest aren't going to be coming through Denver, CO - but a facsimile of such a live event will help to begin the healing process. A set from just about a month ago on Brian Turner's WFMU show is available for listening and/or downloading. [...]

Part 5 of 5 in the Teen Beat 26 Anniversary Showcase: The dramatic conclusion to Teen Beat Week here at TSOI!! The flagship band of Teen Beat records, Unrest was the headliner to each of the six 26th Anniversary shows. Unrest's first cassette came out in 1985 (!?!) but hit their stride in the early '90s and whose sound can be heard in the indie-verse everywhere. I read somewhere that Unrest's Imperial f.f.r.r (1992) provided a nice guitar/drum razor precision counter-point to the ramshackle guitar/musicianship [...]

On July 5th I tagged along with my friend Leah to see Unrest at the Bell House for the big Teen Beat party. I am still fairly new to their music (I know...how many years behind am I?), but have been catching up fast. Above is a photo I shot at that show with my Diana Mini, and I'm pretty stoked about it (actually lots of band photos are going to be popping up on this site. I just got [...]

Former Idolator honcho Maura Johnston interviews one of my heroes, Mark Robinson (of Teenbeat, Unrest, and Cotton Candy fame), in a cool, informative, and laid back Q&A session over at eMusic . In it Robinson discusses the nostalgic personal touch of home-dubbing cassettes, Unrest's reunion tour, his proclivity for patterns in numbering, and his favorite designers. I failed to make the three-and-a-half hour drive to Chapel Hill last Sunday to catch the Unrest show, which I knew I would immediately regret. So, I will have to stock up on any leftover merch if/when it shows up in [...]
