Another week, another set of new releases - with this week headlined by none other than R.E.M.'s Accelerate , which is currently sitting on my desk, ready to be listened to at some point this week while i'm at work. A few other releases that i'm anxious to check out include Sun Kil Moon's April , EPs from both The Electric Pop Group and Annuals , Mono in VCF's self-titled debut, and Yelle's Pop-Up . There's some other stuff that piques my interest, but [...]
The Acorn appear to have a new album out. "Crooked Legs" has some really nice fingerpicking, orchestration and percussion. The Acorn - Crooked Legs (mp3) I like it quite a bit, but I'm not sure if I like it as much as a much-obsessed song of 2007 by them, "Dents". the Acorn - Dents (mp3) The Acorn are on an Eastern US tour now and Glory Hope Mountain came [...]
Ah, what a great week. Yesterday was opening day ( go M's! ) the sun is shining brightly outside, and today we're greeted by an incredibly deep selection of fine new releases. We were spoiled by getting The Black Keys new one last week , so this week we poach from next week's bin, as the debut album from much hyped UK dance-punk act Foals hits Rhapsody a week early. Beyond that, there's plenty here, including a new release from the (sort of) revitalized R.E.M ., along with new ones from Sun Kill [...]
A new Death Cab for Cutie album already? New No Age? dEUS? You gotta love April Fools Day, a time when the trick is really on the early leakers. The message boards are ablaze right now with fake leaks from the most anticipated albums, and as a result the would-be early adopters sully their playlists with Rick Astley's greatest hits in disguise. Apparently, someone even went through the trouble to record songs that vaguely sound like DCFC and post them as such. I hope those in record label sales departments are able to take a moment away from revising their [...]

It looks like another solid week of new releases. If you're heading out to your local record store, here are a few we recommend picking up. Let us know what you intend to purchase. Also, let us know if we've left anything noteworthy off the list. New Releases, Cover Art, and MP3's after the jump...

Don't worry this isn't as loud as it first appears and because there are no explosive moments we won't be casting it off into the post rock category. Johnathon Ford is essentially what drives Unwed Sailor and 'Little Wars' from late last year is the bands 4th long player. While they are certainly prone to moments of ambient introspection Unwed Sailor are generally slaves to the melodic hook and
Listening : 1. The Box Social : Clean cut indie rock from the land of cheese. They will be in Chicago on April 19th at Elbo Room. Listen to: Big T ( mp3 ) 2. Too tired to do much of any good on the writing side of things, I do however have another sleep mix for you all that is quite great for us insomniacs. There is something noticeably better about my sleep when I fall asleep to music, it's quite interesting really. I never wake up in the middle of the night, I feel better in the morning, and I'm calm when I wake up, rather than that awful panicky feeling. [mp3] Rosie Thomas - If This City Never Sleeps [mp3] [...]

Unwed Sailor is one of those bands I keep meaning to catch up with, in fact I was just thinking about it the other day; turns out I might get a chance to do that live, since he's announced new tour dates. Johnathon Ford has a hell of a resume: Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, Roadside Monument, Rosie Thomas, Seldom, Early Day Miners, and Decahedron. Unwed Sailor has Mogwai's wandering, cyclical vibe without the epic sweep or the predilection for noise; sometimes it sounds more like typical guitar-driven rock, but those songs aren't its strongest, lacking the focal [...]

Lily Allen Yo. So, before you say anything, I'll tell you this: give me a week or two. Because then, classes will ease off a little bit and I'll have much much more time to post. I know my post-to-day ratio is like...absolutely unproportional (need I explain more) but we'll work through it. Give me two weeks , tops. And then, you'll be super happy that I'm back and you'll get mixes and all that good stuff. For Mace and Alex, you never know with them, but I'm sure [...]
happy birthday to me right - ok, technically it's tomorrow, but hey - i knew we're from japan! was playing at the jackpot saloon tonight - what i didn't know is that unwed sailor was going to be there as well! it's things like this that have made the last 28 years worth it. expect a full review and pictures (hopefully) tomorrow - in the meantime, here's a few from each band: unwed sailor - ruby's wishes (from firecracker , 1999) [...]

Curated by Nicodemus Agency & Polyvinyl Record Co. in Champaign-Urbana, IL. MOKB was asked to be a promotional partner in the Pygmalion Music Festival , a great Midwest music fest. Thanks, we're delighted and flattered. It's a great lineup and I'm looking forward to being there! i dont know much about unwed sailor , nor do i know if i really feel like knowing anymore than i already do or dont as it were. they are an instrumental 3 piece that teeter between math rock and something kind of not anything like math rock. i am no rock journalist, thus the hyperbole part of my brain dont work so good. i always have issues with properly and informatively describing instrumental outfits for some reason. the tracks i have listened to, provided on their site, are pretty damn good. they have a new record, [...]
