I had been sitting on this one for awhile from the Oslo, Norway based Uptights . Mostly because I hadn't hooked my tape deck back up yet from the move, but then I realized the band conveniently offers up a free download of their debut album At the Wörthersee Hotel on their Bandcamp page. Problem solved, and what do you know? It happens to be a pretty nifty little cassette. The band brings together a nice pallet of sounds here to experiment with their offering of lo-fi post-punk, ranging [...]

In mooi [...]
At the Wörthersee Hotel by The Uptights There's nothing that kills an idea faster than a mindlessly copied trend. I think the idea of "lo-fi bands" qualify. Still, despite the grimy, rough recordings being spoiled for me a bit, I find this latest album from the Uptights kind of alluring. It doesn't just sound like a band with a crummy recording. Rather, it sounds like these guys have an appreciation for noise, soundscapes, and drones-as well as rock and pop, of course. A lot of the songs are short of breath, but [...]

Up-Tight are a three-piece from Tokyo who, from the evidence of this LP, play ponderous, overblown psych rock, of which this record contains five examples. Opener 'Blow Away' fades in with some insistent, repetitive bass and drums (the bass tone on this track is really enviably nasty) and then a load of noisy, squalling guitar over the top taking us to some pretty far-out places before
Stevie Wonder: Chapter 2.
Ian suggested I rank the "top ten Japanese albums" for my next installment of the Friday Top Ten franchise. That's right, it's a franchise now. As far as I know you don't have to do more than two or three of something in order to make it a franchise. They call the Twilight movies a franchise and there are only three of them. I've written nearly 200 top ten lists, I'd say that's a god damned franchise, wouldn't you? Anyway, I thought that Ian had a good idea, but there are so many different kinds of Japanese music, [...]
Just a few tunes to whet your appetite before the big State Of The Blog Address, which will go live at 23:59 PST this evening. Enjoy these songs, I'll be back in a few hours to give my speech. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw songs at a wall [...]

I found this mash-up in a ski video the other day and have been bumping it consistently since. The mash-up is pretty unique with Stevie Wonder's lyrics from"Uptight" mixed with the sounds from Guns N Roses "Sweet Child O' Mine". Its pretty addictive so tell me what you think... we continue to be blown away with each successive freddie joachim release. "splendor" is taken from the 5-song "getaway" EP. "getaway" can be downloaded here for free. the ep is killer and our opinion spotlights some of freddie joachim's best work to date. we really dig the just awesome feel put into his records. there is an authenticity and classic quality to freddie's music that evidences him as one to no doubt keep ears/eyes on. Freddie Joachim - "Splendor" Stevie Wonder - "Uptight" (Freddie Joachim Remix) [...]
outasight-everythings-alright- feat-stevie-wonder Outasight is back with a new track that borrows heavily from Stevie's early hit on Motown "Uptight (Everything's Alright)". I actually was grooving to this and a bunch of Motown songs in the office last week before we all got out for the weekend, shame on everyone for not saying anything to me about that [...]

One thing I absolutely LOVE about YouTube is all of the old/obscure TV and concert clips you can find. One such gem is this clip from 1966 where Stevie Wonder(at the age of 16!) performs both "Uptight" and "A Place in the Sun" and chats a bit about what it's like being blind. The recording was done for CKLW, a radio station in Detroit but they must had a studio audience as well. Enjoy! Share [...]
Ah, work. Where I spend money I don't have on LPs because I see them cross my path during the day and grow to desire them more and more greatly over the course of the next several hours. And how tired I am when I come home. How bored I am waiting for something to happen 'round these parts. The clock could not move any slower when I am waiting for plans to form. I've never liked it. I can be very, very impatient. Especially when hungry. Of course, this would seem hypocritical when weighed against the fact that I [...]
