On the last day of her European tour, shortly before Christmas 2012, Meghan Remy - U.S Girls to you and I - performed a few tracks for a FatCat Records session at the Green Door Store in Brighton. As a document, it's a sparkling reminder of how powerful she is with a full backing band (that's the Slim Twig band; Slim Twig is Meghan’s husband), and as a stand alone performance it's just completely enthralling. Filmed by the folks at 4eyes.tv , and with stage decorations put together by FatCat's Dave Howell and Tom Lavis, utilising thousands [...]

Meghan Remy has typically worked alone at songwriting and performing in her experimental pop project, U.S. Girls . But this time around on her fourth album, GEM , released late last year, she enlisted a bit of outside assistance to help her bring her ideas to fuller fruition. Her husband, Toronto musician Slim Twig helped in the production and recording of the album this time around, helping shine a bit of daylight on her gritty basement sound. Although Meg toured with a band last year on some European dates, she was back playing solo [...]

Our fascination with new comers U.S. Girls continues with this live video of "I Don't Have A Mind Of My Own", a previously unreleased track that reminds me of a post-punk version of The Ronettes. The band is playing at Comet Ping Pong in D.C. tomorrow, February 13 (RSVP HERE). Be there. And [...]

As of Friday, U.S. Girls hit the road for a month-long US tour. The (ironically) Canadian solo girl behind the project is Meghan Remy, but she’ll be touring with her band, which includes Toronto-based guitarist Slim Twig. Remy, Slim Twig and the rest of the touring band can be seen in a video that the ... Continue reading
Fat Cat Records. Een bandnaam als U.S. Girls. Een titel als de edelsteen GEM. Het hoesje. Wat verwacht je dan? Ik had gegokt op dames die zich bezondigen aan garagerock in een lo-fi-variant. Met die eerste zat ik gedeeltelijk goed....

theblackangels.com Another week, another batch of show announcements to cobble into a blog post, another band with "black" in their name hitting the road. This time, it's Austin psych-rock veterans The Black Angels , who've announced a trans-continental tour this April in support of their fourth full-length album, Indigo Meadow , out April 2. A preview track has been made available to stream, and while it doesn't stray far from formula - you don't make it as far in the drugged-out, trippy drone-rock game by changing it up too much - it's [...]
by Tiana Feng Um here is a video of U.S. Girls "working from home" in her lingerie? Perhaps she is filming naughty webcam videos or something.

U.S. Girls , the project of Meghan Remy, is heading out on the road starting in February in support of their 2012 release via FatCat Records , Gem . They released a new NSFW video for album cut "Work From Home". The video, starring Marty Cantalina and Mukethe Kawinzi with direction by Chrissy Jones depicts the "pleasures and hidden potential one can discover within the comfort of one's own home—or bed." Find it below along with the tour dates. [...]
US GIRLS made a really beautiful album called "Gem". Shame she didn't get a lot of attention for it. That's why we would like to help and get the word out there, by talking about the video for her new single "Work From Home". Although the video itself will probably give her a lot of attention (nudity, cake and 80s vibes), the song is one of our less favorite ones on the album. That's why we would like to say: don't jerk off, just listen to the full album and get a musical orgasm. Nuff Said.
U.S. Girls latest video will make you want to "Work from Home". Meghan Remy, aka U.S. Girls , has released a video for "Work From Home" off her recent album, GEM , out now through FatCat Records . GEM is Remy's fourth release and continues her music collaboration with Slim [...]
Girls [...]
We're super excited about the return of Suede, both because their new single "Barriers" is really great and because, honestly, we're hoping for some sort of glam re-revival in the year to come — surely it's time for the return of bands whose ambitions extend beyond bedroom laptoptronica and/or determinedly anonymous we-just-do-what-we-do-and-poss ibly-have-beards indie? Hey, David Bowie's surprise album announcement certainly can't hurt the possibility of a glitter resurgence, either! While we wait, we've been digging out our old Suede CDs and also exhuming other examples of glam rock from after the genre's mid-'70s golden age. Here are some of [...]

The double LP has a certain stigma; an implied obligation to deliver art on a grandiose scale. Ela Orleans's genre hopping 19-track Tumult in Clouds manages to prove the stigma irrelevant and meet those expectations in her own, unpredictable ways. The variety of styles and sonic textures present here come as no shock, given Ela's back catalog of thoughtful explorations of various styles, but the subtle ways in which the tracks form relationships that make up, well, the album are worth the price of admission alone. Case in point: "Longing," wherein wandering vocals and obtuse harmonies [...]

A couple of weeks back, we took a look at the best books that various Flavorpill staffers had read over the course of the year, and today we're repeating the exercise with albums — we've surveyed our highly trained staff and asked them what the best record they heard in 2012 was. The results, we hope you'll agree, are rather interesting, encompassing everything from Ke$ha and Swans to a hitherto undiscovered fondness for obscure country reissues. Do feel free, of course, to add your voice to the discussion in the comments section! [...]
