For our sixth New Noise installment, we are returning to the Gibson Guitars DC Showroom for an intimate evening featuring stripped-down performances from two of our favorite artists from the District. U.S. Royalty have already proven themselves to be one of the nation's capital's premier acts, especially following the release of their stellar debut full length, Mirrors , back in 2011. The four-piece will show us how it's done with a special acoustic set. Opening the night will be Misun . This self-described "aquawave" outfit is one of DC's finest up-and-coming acts [...]

Three reasons to shake it on over to Schubas this fine evening... 1. If there's some weird area of space that exists somewhere between Fleetwood Mac and the Black Keys, then U.S Royalty seem to live in it. This DC indie rock outfit is quite flexible as they can do both airy and melodic west coast pop and dingy blues guitar rock with equal focus. LISTEN: "Equestrian" 2. Like Pioneers [...]
If the name U.S. Royalty doesn't ring a bell yet, listen up. These guys have been earning accolades from the likes of Spin, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Esquire and NPR since the 2011 release of their debut record, Mirrors, and are set to hit the Sweetlife stage for a second year running. But this Saturday, April 14th, at 8:30pm, WGTB is teaming up with Sweetgreen and Relay for Life to bring you an intimate look at these DC-based rockers right in our own Bulldog Alley . Opening up for U.S. [...]

CONNECTED FASHION FESTIVAL ON SATURDAY MAR. 31ST, 850 SOUTH HOPE STREET, LOS ANGELES. 11:00AM-5:00PM/ $7 OR $5 WITH CANNED FOOD DONATION/ ALL AGES.
You know, if I ever featured a band called The New Countdown, I would have to be very careful about how I titled the post. Yes, I really felt like this week's countdown mixed it up pretty nicely. There weren't a lot of back to back songs of the same genre and that always feels like a win to me. I heard from a listener that she made chicken while listening to last week's show. Has anyone else tried cooking to the countdown? That sounds like an Appetite For Distraction/ I Sing in the Kitchen [...]

You may or may not remember the fine gentlemen of US Royalty , I caught onto them last year when their song Vacation Vacation was featured in a stylish Gant Rugger commercial [ HERE ]. For the unacquainted, they play a classic brand of expansive rock. And they do so very well by not not trying to be too fancy, just sticking to their guns and staying earnest. They popped up again after a short hiatus with a tasty new track called Sleepy Eyes [ mp3 ] featured below. One presumes it comes from [...]

Tweet vaso link One of my favorite surprises of early 2011 was the release from Washington, DC band U.S. Royalty, Mirrors . The album is filled with catchy, earnest rock that sounded like it would be more comfortable on a classic rock radio station than it does on an indie music blog. Regardless, I listened to that album on repeat for the month of January last year. The band is back with a new single called "Sleepy [...]

If Oasis and Tracy Chapman drummed up a song, sitting around a campfire with a synth machine and bongos, it would sound like U.S. Royalty 's "Sleepy Eyes." Troysnoise first unearthed this D.C. band in July last year , covering their debut EP Mirrors . U.S. Royalty - "Sleepy Eyes" Bandcamp Webpage

D.C.'s favorite sons and ATG favorites , U.S. Royalty , dropped a brand spankin' new single, "Sleepy Eyes," in the midst of all the SXSW hullabaloo last week. The track cruises on the vocals of singer John Thornley, which float over a surreal conglomeration of synth, drums and guitar. With the weather we've been having in D.C., "Sleepy Eyes" is the perfect anthem for springtime barbecues as the temperature cools during the sunset. MP3: U.S. Royalty - Sleepy Eyes

Slow Club gives it oh so sweetly. What can I say about day 4 that wont make you green with St Paddy's themed envy if you weren't actually there to witness it? A bonus set by new TBE faves Cherub happened. Plus a lot more varieties of rock (sexy, tender, party, etc). Stay tuned for a proper recap of my favorite shows of the TBE parties but in the meantime read on for the 360 interviews! US Royalty / U.S. Royalty - Monte Carlo [...]
US Royalty - Sleepy Eyes Really enjoying this new single from DC's US Royalty. The bands harmonizing reminds me of the now-defunct Chief , and its a got a cool, sort of west coasty rock vibe ala Yukon Blonde. The track itself sort of rolls on with no friction, its really smooth and carefree feeling. The subtle percussions and guitar strumming is more background to vocals that at times soar. Its a super nice sounding track that will definitely be in constant rotation for a while, and whets my appetite for more. [...]

Normally at the end of the year, I put together a series of posts “reviewing” records I didn’ t get around to mentioning throughout the year. This year, I wanted to change things up a bit. I considered putting together one of those nifty little best of lists. But then, I started thinking... that happens from time to time! There are several records that came out this year that I like be it because they were well crafted, catchy or just because. But, how many of those albums [...]

Manchester, England, one of those post-industrial towns that still finds meaning in difficulty, sends us gritty rock music in the form of Secret Pilot and their instantly memorable single, "Lucy". The vocals recall what US Royalty did so well in 2008 or early Kings Of Leon, that approachable, gravel-toned pop - this version with a vague sensation that the time signature has been lifted from a

" Equestrian ," the haunting track from local stalwarts U.S. Royalty, is easily our most blogged song in the last 12 months, and possibly of all time-with the exception of "Sleepyhead" because, well... come on . Given this fact, one may wonder why we are again discussing it. Enter Micah Vellian , a DJ/producer and yet another resident of our nation's capital. His remix of "Equestrian" maintains the swagger of the original track while upgrading the guitars to dance floor-ready synths and a smooth bass track. According to Vellian , the single felt "really anthemic and I [...]

The first round of artists for this year's CMJ Music Marathon in NYC were just announced . The music and film festival is set for October 18-22 all around NYC. I still haven't made it out this festival but tons of indie rockers cut their teeth in NYC around this time of year and around the CMJ events. Plus it's a solid way for tons of folks in the industry to get together and finally meet each other face to face as opposed to electronic correspondence only. Maybe I'll make [...]
